Chapter Thirty

Third Person POV

Sometimes your life changes in the blink of an eye. One second you're on stable ground and the next you're falling back into crashing waves and no clue how you go there or how to stop the fall.

Other times, it's a slow motion change; you're already under water and you're trying to move, to keep up but you just can't seem to go anywhere. You are going faster than time. Time seemingly wanting to stop, forcing you to watch and feel every agonizing second.

Sometimes change is a good thing. Sometimes you don't know the change is good until after. Sometimes you don't notice the change. Sometimes, whether you can barely keep up with time or time doesn't want to budge; you're fucked either way.

Spencer was feeling all of that right now. Like everything was about to change in the matter of moments and yet everything was frozen, not daring to take a breath in fear of anything happening at all.

Being stuck is something she's always hated and that's exactly what she felt. She had to do this, she couldn't stop the change that was already happening around her. But in her head every movement was drawn out in minutes and there was silence; the world waiting for her to breathe again so it can keep turning.

She doesn't want to move or breathe; she doesn't want anything to change.

But she takes a somewhat steady breath anyway.

And just like that reality snaps back into place and it's crushing weight finds itself back on her shoulders.

Spencer's POV

I take a deep breath preparing myself to enter the avengers compound. I know I have to do this as I couldn't bare give the drive over to my employers once I knew what was on there and what they wanted to do with it. But that does not make my next moves any easier. In fact, I'm not sure how long I've been standing here..

Apparently the avengers have pissed off quite a few people and they want revenge. Enough so that they formed together some group. I don't think they really had a name but they had some big names in association with them that have seen headlines before. However, they don't seem all that organized, as they're mostly just furious the avengers caught them and want them to suffer for it. But with the information I pulled, given to the right person, they could do some real damage.

I don't really think this particular group is going to bring the avengers down, but if they decided to join hydra or some stupid shit, this could go south very quickly.

The info I had was every detailed mission they had gone on. Who took down who, who got injured, who messed up, who was the hero, why they messed up. It even went as far to list who helped them on these missions, where they were, and how long they were out for. Just about every random minuscule fact you could ask for, it was on there.

I mean I have no idea why this was on the jet, I guess they figured no one would ever attempt to sneak into the compound and onto their jet? Either way, this could give someone every weakness the avengers seem to have. And for a group of superheroes, having an enemy know their kryptonite has the potential to be catastrophic. Since they're the only ones really saving this planet and the multitudes in the galaxy, I couldn't be the one to help bring them down.

Being one of the little guys myself awhile ago, I know you need something to hope for and hold on to. Yeah, I know I didn't exactly have the right kind of hope. My hopes lied in the facts that I would have another job and wouldn't get caught. Mine were askew, sure. In my defense, hope was taken from me early on so I didn't really know how it worked.
