Yelenas POV

The next week flew by. Spencer and I hung out just about every chance we got. Which was when she wasn't working. So a lot.

We've gotten really close. And nothing physical ever happened. I don't think it ever will. We do have a special connection, and she is definitely attractive, but we're more like friend soulmates?

Somehow she has made this boring ass place in the middle of nowhere more bearable. We'd eat with my parents every once in a while too. I think they had hoped we'd be more than friends, but they're just happy we took to each other.

We were currently at my parents now. We're eating dinner and are a few shots of vodka into the night. So very typical.

"Have you heard from your sister lately?" Papa asks me as he devours another chicken leg.

"Um, no. Not since we all met up last time. I'm sure she's busy with work."

"Ah, she's always too busy with work. Always so serious. So focused on work." He's still eating the chicken leg.

    "Well it's important work."

He huffs. "Whatever. I'm just saying it would be nice if she stopped by more often! We hardly see either of you, you more than her."

"What he's trying to say is just that we both miss you. We went so long without seeing each other, we didn't want to fall into that pattern again."

I stiffen up at the mention of our past. We were close, but neither Spencer nor I have given in on  telling each other our pasts. From the little bit she's shared, I can tell it's kind of rough. Not just like mine, but bad enough. And we're both apparently still a little sore from it. With good reason.

I hope Spencer didn't notice my parents little slip up, I chance a peek over to her as I take a bite of my food. Phew, doesn't seem like that had any affect on her. I quickly glare at both of my parents before bringing everyone into a different conversation.

"Speaking of working, I actually have to leave. Beginning of next week."

"No! You've only just gotten here." Spencer was the first to protest, quickly followed by comments from both of my parents.

"Yeah! We've barely seen you!" My father throws in his complaint.

"We're glad you were able to visit. And we do still have a week. Hopefully you won't wait so long before coming back?" My mom tries to ease the situation.

"Of course. Now that I know there's more to do around here, I'll be sure to come back as soon as possible." I smile over at Spencer, and she gives me a smile back but it's fleeting.

I understand. I don't want to leave her either. I don't want to go back out on my own. Especially now that I have someone I can actually consider my friend. And she likes my parents.

"You better, we still have that tattoo to design." She tries to bring up the mood. I had almost forgotten about that.

"Of course. Even more reason to come back." I'll have to talk to just her before I leave. I really do plan on coming back soon and I want her to know that.

The next week went faster than the last. Spencer and I still hung out just as much, keeping the mood as happy as possible, so avoiding my leaving tomorrow all together.
