Y/n had always been the observant one in the group, the one who noticed the small things that others often overlooked. When Hunter started acting strangely after their last encounter with Belos, she was the first to pick up on it. His usually warm and confident demeanor had taken a sharp turn. He was quieter, more reserved, and there were moments when his gaze seemed distant, like he was fighting something deep inside.

At first, she dismissed it as stress. After all, they had been through hell and back—literally. But as days passed, Hunter's behavior became more erratic. He would zone out during conversations, his eyes flickering with a strange green light when he thought no one was looking. Y/n couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.

One evening, while they were all gathered in the old abandoned house they had been using as a temporary hideout, Y/n decided to speak up.

"Guys, have you noticed anything weird about Hunter lately?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Amity, who was engrossed in a book, glanced up briefly. "Weird how? We've all been through a lot. He's probably just processing everything."

Luz, ever the optimist, chimed in. "Yeah, Y/n. I mean, we're all a bit off after everything with Belos. Maybe you're just worrying too much."

Y/n bit her lip, frustrated. "No, it's not that. It's like... he's not himself. I've seen him staring at his reflection, like he's looking at someone else. And the other day, I swear I saw his eyes flash green."

Gus raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "Green? Are you sure it wasn't just a trick of the light? Hunter's been through a lot, but we all have. We just need to give him space."

Y/n shook her head, feeling her chest tighten. "It's more than that. What if Belos did something to him? We all know how powerful his magic is. He could've—"

"Y/n," Willow interrupted gently, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I know you're worried, but Hunter's strong. If something was wrong, he would tell us. Let's not jump to conclusions."

Y/n felt a pang of frustration. They weren't listening. Why weren't they listening? She wanted to scream that something was seriously wrong, but every time she tried to explain, they brushed it off as her being overly concerned.

But then it happened. They were sitting around, planning their next move, when Hunter walked into the room. His movements were stiff, almost robotic. The usual spark in his eyes was gone, replaced by a dull, lifeless stare. As he stepped closer, the group fell silent, sensing something was off.

Y/n's heart raced. "Hunter?" she called out cautiously.

He didn't respond. Instead, he lifted his head slowly, revealing something that sent chills down everyone's spine—a faint, sickly green scar running across his face, glowing ominously under the dim light. The room fell deathly silent.

Luz's eyes widened in horror. "Hunter... what's happening to you?"

Hunter's lips twitched into a cruel, twisted smile, one that wasn't his own. "I warned you all," he said, but it wasn't his voice. It was deeper, darker—a voice they all recognized too well. "You should have listened to her."

Before anyone could react, Hunter lunged forward, his body moving with a speed and ferocity that was inhuman. Y/n barely managed to throw up a shield in time, the force of his attack sending her sprawling to the ground.

"Get him away from her!" Amity shouted, her hands already glowing with magic.

But it was no use. Belos had taken hold of Hunter completely, using him as a puppet, his green-tinted power pulsing through the boy's body. The others sprang into action, but every spell they cast seemed to bounce off, as if Belos was feeding off their magic.

Y/n struggled to her feet, her heart pounding in her chest. This was exactly what she had feared, and now it was happening right in front of them. She couldn't let them lose Hunter to Belos—not like this.

"Hunter!" she screamed, desperate to reach him. "I know you're in there! Fight him! Please, don't let him control you!"

For a split second, she thought she saw a flicker of recognition in his eyes—a brief moment where the real Hunter broke through. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by the cold, ruthless gaze of Belos.

Gus and Willow tried to hold him down, but Hunter was too strong, his movements erratic and wild. Amity and Luz fired off spells, trying to weaken the possession, but nothing was working.

"We need to find a way to break this!" Luz shouted, her voice tinged with fear. "We can't let Belos keep him like this!"

Y/n's mind raced. There had to be a way to free Hunter from Belos' grip, but what? And then it hit her—the only way to reach Hunter was through the one thing Belos didn't have: love.

She took a deep breath, her voice trembling but determined. "Hunter, listen to me! You're not alone! We're your friends, and we won't let Belos take you from us! You have to fight him!"

Hunter paused, his body shaking violently as if waging an internal battle. The green scar on his face flickered, the glow dimming slightly.

"Y/n..." Hunter's voice broke through, weak and strained, but it was his voice—his real voice.

"Hunter, we're here!" Y/n cried, tears streaming down her face. "We believe in you! Don't let him win!"

The others joined in, shouting encouragements, their voices filled with desperation and hope. Slowly, the green light began to fade, and Hunter's body went limp. Y/n caught him as he fell, cradling him in her arms.

He looked up at her, his eyes back to their normal brown, filled with exhaustion and pain. "Y/n... I'm sorry..."

Y/n shook her head, smiling through her tears. "It's okay, Hunter. You're safe now. We've got you."

The group gathered around them, relieved but shaken by what they had witnessed. They had nearly lost him, and it was only because of Y/n's unwavering belief in him that they managed to pull him back from the brink.

As they sat there, comforting Hunter and each other, Y/n realized something important—they were stronger together. No matter what Belos threw at them, they would face it as a team. And from now on, they would always listen to each other's concerns, no matter how small or far-fetched they might seem.

Because in this world of magic and danger, you could never be too careful.
