The car was oddly silent as you traveled to the restaurant Hank had chosen, you were still confused about how you had come to this. If you were honest, you just wanted to go home and sleep.
But that was no longer a choice.
You'd just have to wait, you were ecstatic that it meant Samuel was happy about it, yet you just felt so drained by the day you'd just had.
You also had no idea why this car ride was silent, the silence was deafening. You accidentally let out an unfortunate loud sigh.
"I'm sorry for just making plans for us." Hank called out from the front, you widened your eyes and paid attention to him.
"It's fine, you're right. Samuel needs some happiness in his life." You voiced as you pursed your lips and tilted your head back slightly.
"Yeah, but I shoulda asked you first. I know you're probably drained from today. Physically and emotionally." Hank said, as much as he was right you didn't want him to feel bad.
"Honestly, it's okay. I am tired, but dinner will be nice. Plus who knows it may be the last time we ever see Samuel, his grandparents might move him away with them." You told Hank who nodded his head, lightly, they had no reason to stay in Detroit anymore.
"Would probably be better for the kid to leave this place." Hank mumbled as silence fell over the car once again.
You glanced towards Nines who had been paying attention to the entire conversation, he noticed you looking at him and gave you a small concealed smile. You returned the smile before looking out of the window of the car, watching the city fly by.
Not even ten minutes had gone by and Hank was already pulling into a car park, you could already see Samuel and his grandparents waiting outside their car for you to arrive. Hank swiftly parked the car and cut the engine, soon enough Connor climbed out of the car let you and Nines out.
Nines climbed out of the car, his hand soon appearing again to help you out of the car, you gently took ahold of his hand and let him pull you out of the car. The moment you were out of the car he let go of your hand and shut the car door, letting Hank lock it.
"Police lady! Nines!" You heard Samuel yell as he rushed towards you both, he grabbed ahold of your hand before then also grabbing Nines' "You're both sitting next to me!"
"Samuel." His grandmother said, her tone low.
"I mean, can I sit next to you both?" He asked as he glanced up at you both, with an attempt at puppy eyes.
"Of course you can, thank you for asking." You told Samuel who beamed at you.
"If Y/N is fine with it, then so am I." Nines told Samuel, only making his smile grow larger.
"Let's go in." Hank suggested as you all began to walk towards the restaurant, Samuel's grip on your hand was tight. It was like he never wanted to let go.
Entering the restaurant you were greeted by a comforting atmosphere, the place seemed so calm and pleasant. Looking around you saw families enjoying their evenings together, you felt instantly calmed by the atmosphere.
"This place is so big." Samuel breathed out as he tugged on your hand, you glanced down at him and gave him a smile.
It didn't take long to get seated, Samuel sat right between you and Nines, he kept grinning at both of you. For a boy who had just had the hardest day of his life, he was loving life.
"Thank you for letting me sit between you both." Samuel thanked both you and Nines.
"You are welcome." Nines responded before you could, he seemed tense to you. You knew it was probably because he was trying to keep up appearances.
