During the ride home you had made sure to blast music so loudly that even if Nines did try to speak to you, you wouldn't hear him.
The moment you arrived home, Nines cut the engine leaving silence hanging in the car. You refused to look towards him, you could tell he wanted to speak to you.
"Y/N-"
You held your hand up to Nines indicating for him stop, the anger inside you right now was bound to make you say something you'd regret to Nines. So it was better if he didn't speak to you. Without a second thought you climbed out of the car, Nines following behind you.
Reaching the door, Nines unlocked it and opened the door for you, you kept your eyes to the ground and stepped inside the house kicking your shoes off.
How had a night of celebration turned into this hell so quickly?
You strode into the kitchen and grabbed a glass from a cupboard before then beginning to search for some alcohol. If it worked for Hank it would surely work for you.
You heard Nines enter the kitchen, you could feel his eyes on you.
Triumphantly you grabbed the large bottle of alcohol from the back of the cupboard and finally turned around to look at Nines.
His sad eyes stared at the bottle in your hands, you fixed him with a hard glare. There was no way he was going to make you feel bad about drinking.
"I'm going to my room. Don't follow me." You announced to Nines who seemed taken aback by you speaking to him.
"I-"
"You can stay in the living room." You told him as you walked towards him, quickly dodging past him and beelining for your room.
You knew it wasn't fair to do this to him, but he'd just ruined your partnership with Hank as well as getting himself suspended. He had to learn the hard way that he couldn't just fight people and not have consequences.
On your way into your room you made sure to slam the door behind yourself to further show your anger. You let out a shakey breath as you leant against the door, slowly letting yourself slip down the door onto the floor.
You quickly opened the bottle and poured yourself a glass, taking a sip as soon as you could. You were sure Hank was feeling the same as you were, except he had probably necked far more drinks than you.
You glanced around your room, your eyes settling on the small amount of clothes Nines owned, your mind instantly wondering what he was doing out there right now.
You had to remind yourself that he was in the wrong right now and quickly necked your entire drink. Then pouring another.
You sat leant up against the door for another ten minutes before you heard a very subtle knock at the door. You ignored it hoping that he would go away.
But he didn't, he knocked again.
"Go away." You called out taking another mouthful of your drink.
"Y/N, please." Nines begged as you heard his head softly hit the other side of the door.
"I don't want to talk to you." You told him, he obviously hated this already but he couldn't just get away with it.
"I know you do not, but... but I am sorry." Nines sighed, a tiny part of you felt bad for him, he had no idea it was going to come to this. None of you did.
"Sorry just isn't enough right now. Leave me alone." You spoke as you heard a sigh come from Nines, you felt tears begin to trickle down your face.
This all just hurt too much. Far too much.
"Okay." Nines said before you heard him walk away, his footsteps getting further and further away.
That's when you just let the flood barriers down and began to sob. Your whole world felt like it was crashing down. Things were supposed to get better after the case, but now they had just gotten worse.
The night passed by quickly and you had managed to crawl into bed with your alcohol just letting that and the tears consume you. You hadn't heard a peep from Nines at all, the house was silent. Your eyes had begun to grow heavy so you just let the sleep take you.
But what you hadn't realised was that this was your first night of sleeping without Nines for a long time.
You were there again, in your house with a knife to your throat. Nines staring at you. People muttering threats and slurs at you, but all you could focus on was him. The look in his eyes.
The sadness, the guilt and the fear.
All of these emotions you'd seen before in his eyes.
You couldn't move nor speak as a gun was raised to the side of his head, you tried to scream but nothing happened.
Nines mouthed three words to you before the gun went off.
'I love you'
In the next moment you sprung awake, tears slipping down your face, breathing heavily. You looked around seeing your were in your bed, then your eyes landed on the door and there he stood.
Nines was staring at you, concern strewn across his face, you used your hand to wipe some of the tears from your face.
"I heard you..." He whispered out, he looked unsure on whether he should enter or not. You weren't even sure what you wanted him to do.
You just stared at him.
It had all felt so real, like you had really lost him.
Nines stepped inside the room and quietly shut the door, a heavy lump sat in your throat.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his LED bright red. He knew you weren't okay, yet he still asked you anyway.
You shook your head in response as he approached the bed and sat down on the end of it. You tried to avoid looking at him now that he was closer. His hand came into your view as he pushed it towards you.
For some reason you placed your hand straight on top of his, the only thought on your mind being: what if that had been real?
"I know you are angry with me, but-"
Before he could even finish his sentence you threw yourself at him and began to sob. He wasted no time in wrapping you into a tight, comforting hug. He let you stay there as you sobbed into his clothing.
"I am here." He whispered to you as he kissed the top of your head.
You were still furious with him, but that nightmare had scared the life out of you. You weren't going to let him leave you now.
"I still want to punch you, but can you stay?" You asked your breath hitching with every word you spoke.
"Of course I can, I am not going to leave you." He mumbled back as you gripped onto his top and scrunched it into your hands. "You may also punch me if you would like."
"Maybe in the morning." You sighed out as Nines began to move the both of you, soon enough you were lying down with your head buried into his chest.
"Go to sleep, Y/N. I will be here for you to punch when you wake up." Nines whispered into your hair.
No matter how much he had pissed you off, you still loved him so much. The mere thought of losing him almost making your heart stop.
"I love you, Nines."
"And I love you, Y/N." Nines answered as you let yourself fall back to sleep.
