It was now the day after the trial, you felt like a heavy weight had been lifted from your life. The end of a chapter. Now you had the chance to start a new one.
Nines seemed happier now, and so were you. You'd spent the evening just cuddling and allowing Nines to decide what kind of dog he'd like.
You were dedicated on getting this dog, it's what he wanted and so did you now. It was like having a child to raise, as that was never going to be a possibility for you and Nines. Not that you wanted a child anyway.
The two of you were just entering the station, that was when Nines' whole demeanour changed. The moment you were anywhere with people you knew he had to become his old self all over again.
It bothered you so much, but it was his choice until he felt ready to tell people. You had no idea how he'd choose to tell people or how he'd explain it to people. They'd want to know when and how.
Entering the desk area you briskly walked to yours and Nines' desk, as usual Connor and Hank were already at their desk. It still tickled you that Hank always used to be late, but since having Connor he was in earlier than you.
"Good morning." Hank called out to the both of you as he leant back in his chair and stretched.
"Good morning." You responded to Hank as you plopped down into your chair.
"Good morning, Hank." Nines said as he took his seat beside you.
"Morning." Connor mumbled as he stared intently at his terminal.
"He okay?" You mouthed to Hank who nodded in response.
"He's just uh, clearing things up from the case. He's been like this since we got in." Hank whispered to you, quite loudly.
"I can still hear you." Connor sighed as he pulled his eyes away from the terminal, finally settling them on you.
"I apologise for the abrupt greeting, I am just busy." Connor told you, his eyes flicking straight back to the screen.
"It's cool." You mumbled as Nines began to fiddle with your terminal, you just let him get on with it.
"Fowler told me to tell you that he passed on your last case, because of the trial." Hank explained to you and Nines, out of the corner of your eye you noticed Nines give him a small nod.
"So we have nothing to do?" You asked Hank who let out a loud sigh.
"Until someone decides to murder someone? Yep." He answered as he slouched down into his chair a small amount.
"Fun." You muttered, glancing at Nines you saw that he was now just sat around like you and Hank.
"I bet it's killing you inside, not having anything to do." Hank spoke to Nines who raised an eyebrow at him.
"Well, I cannot be killed so no. I am perfectly functional to be idle." Nines responded, making Hank roll his eyes at him. "You must be bored though."
"Hey, I'm getting paid to just sit here and look pretty, so I can't complain." Hank shrugged as Nines gave him a very puzzled look.
"It's an expression, he's not actually pretty." Connor told Nines whose attention instantly snapped to him.
"I see."
"Excuse me? I am absolutely pretty." Hank scoffed as Connor shook his head in response.
"I'm offended." Hank grumbled, slouching down into his chair even more.
You had to admit, you were kind of bored already. Not having a case was a good thing, it meant no one had been hurt or worse.
Everyone except Connor had just been sat there doing nothing, that was until Hank looked interested in something going on behind you.
