Quick Dip Of A Handsome Introspective

Midori POV:

I finish the call with Mateo and sigh as I plug in my phone. I plug it into the charger on the dresser by my bed and then go to the kitchen to find Carlos where I left him.

I find him eating mangos that he cut up earlier, focusing on the sky out the window.

He turns and sees me, smiling as he holds a slice of mango for me. He feeds it to me, making me smile.

I hug him and rub his back as he eats another slice.

Carlos: "You ready for bed?"

I nod and step away as he pulls back from me to wash his hands.

Carlos: "You sleepy? You seem quiet. That is not bad; I just saw it and noticed."

Midori: "I am sleepy. It's just... well, I'm sure it's nothing."

Carlos turns and looks my way. He dries his hands as I put the mangos in the fridge.

I feel him rest his hands on my hips as he stands behind me and rests his head on my shoulder.

Carlos: "Tell me, Reina. What is bothering you?"

He rubs my hips in soft circles, making me feel relaxed as I lean back into his touch.

Midori: "Hmm. Well, it's just Mateo sounded... distracted. I figured he'd sound more excited about his engagement, but whatever challenges he had to deal with seemed to have taken a toll on him. I just hope that whatever happened hasn't been too much for him. Especially with him still in recovery, I want to ensure he's doing alright."

Carlos: "I see. He may have lots to do, which makes him sound different. If something bad happened, he would talk to us, yes? After the hospital, I trust him to be honest and say what's on his mind."

Midori: "Yeah, you're right. Maybe I'm overthinking."

Carlos: "You have a sweet heart and a bright mind that lets you think so much. I love you for it, and I'm happy to have someone looking out for Mateo. We can text him later and see if he wants to hang out."

I feel him kissing my head, which makes me smile. He pats my hip gently as I turn and look at him.

Midori: "Thanks, Carlos."

He nods and kisses me gently, the gesture making me smile. It's nice to have Carlos here to ground me. He makes my worrisome thoughts a lot easier to manage.

Veneer POV:

Ven: "Nine hundred ninety-eight. Nine hundred ninety-nine. One thousand!"

Velv looks at me and rolls her eyes.

Velv: "Did you seriously jump from ten to nine hundred ninety-five?"

I stick my tongue out at her as I finish brushing Jewels. I give her a kissie on the head, then pick her up and walk her to her tree.

We put her brush away and grab her blankie before walking back over to Velv.

I climb into my bed and snuggle with Jewels as Velv sighs.

Velv: "Ugh. You invited me over, and I thought it'd be entertaining."

Ven: "Huh? I thought we'd been having fun."

Velv: "All you've done is brush Jewels."

Ven: "Yeah? Which is, like, totally fun."

Velv goes to protest as Kid Ritz hurries in.

Kid Ritz: "You guys! Did you see the text from Mateo!"

I look at Velv, and both of us are unaware of any text.
