Dom POV:
The morning of our wedding, I wake up feeling incredibly nervous. I'm unsure why I feel so anxious, yet the sky and weather reflect my feelings. The first sign of snowfall hits the plains as I get up and go to my bedroom.
I shower, hoping the cold water will calm me down, as it typically does, yet to no avail; I feel just as nervous as I initially woke up. Maybe it's the fact I'm marrying Mateo today, performing with Velvet, or just the sheer reality that I'm making a huge step forward in my life with someone that I never dreamed would be possible for me.
Stepping out of the shower, I towel off and wrap the towel around my waist before looking at myself in the foggy mirror.
I take a long minute to analyze myself—my pale, nearly bluish-white skin. My pale blue hair and pale bluish lips look on the verge of being frostbitten. My gray and white nails, tired expression. My pale blue eyes that... I am unsure how to feel about it.
There's a lot about myself that I don't necessarily hate anymore, yet I don't feel proud about it all. I sigh at the lines across my forehead, eyes, and mouth. I'm getting older, and I'm starting to look more and more like Dad and Drew.
Oh well. I... feel more of a man now than anything they should me growing up. I wonder what Dad would say if he knew of me marrying Mateo today. I wonder what Mom would think. I wonder if Drew would be happy for me. Or if he'd make fun of me or turn the situation negative.
I don't need to wonder what they would have thought, as their opinion is irrelevant to me.
I sigh and leave the bathroom before getting dressed in the semi-formal clothes I'll wear to the venue. I get changed, then spritz some cologne before going to Mateo's room. I find him with the door closed, indicating he'd like privacy.
Instead of knocking, I take it as a sign to go downstairs and ensure everything is packed in the car. I double-check that our suits, boots, hats, and other wedding items are packed in my car. Once I'm sure everything is ready to go, I work on making a special breakfast for Mateo.
He comes downstairs slowly, making me feel bad as I realize he's had to walk down the stairs alone.
Dom: "Aww, Mateo! I'm sorry! I was so busy making breakfast I hadn't stopped to think that you'd be ready to come downstairs!"
Mateo: "It is fine. I worked up appetite."
He smiles and sits at the kitchen table as I bring over a plate of his favorite breakfast. I pour him coffee and kiss his head before grabbing my plate.
Dom: "Well, I'm so happy you got down the stairs with no trouble! You're doing such a great job navigating everything!"
Mateo smiles, his eyes bright.
Mateo: "Thank you."
We have a sweet breakfast together, then get ready to clean up and leave for the venue. My nerves flare as we enter the car once we are ready to leave the ranch. I look at Mateo and smile, and he gives me a bright grin.
Mateo: "You feel ready?"
Dom: "Yeah. Yeah, I do."
Mateo nods as I pull away from the ranch. We listen to pretty mariachi, something Mateo enjoys when we sit on the patio together. As we drive, I try to keep my nerves at bay, resulting in mere clouds overhead instead of snowfall, for which I'm grateful.
We pull up to the garden, and my heart jumps at all the beautiful flowers and greenery surrounding an array of chairs and a white-carpeted walkway for Mateo and me.
