One Night, One Shot
"Get up." Lee commands
You won't move because of all the pain you were in. Marie and May yank you up to your feet. You begin to tremble at this, you grit your teeth and clench your fists.
"N-No! Stop!" You shout "LET GO OF ME!"
Your voice rings through the halls as the girls release you. No one had heard you yell before. It wasn't something you did. You'd never protested against things and we're okay with most situations you were in. But you refused to let them drag you around like this every single time they caught you alone in the hallway, you couldn't do it anymore. You try to run away but you're quickly tackled by May. The sisters grab you by the feet and pull you up. They throw a few hits at you and knee you in the stomach, before stuffing you into a nearby locker. You sit there for the rest of the school day, in bleak darkness and in a small, yet empty space. You look out into the halls occasionally but don't see anyone in sight. Without realizing it, you begin to cry. As this past semester blows through your mind.
Finally, someone starts inputting the combination to the lock. You fall out and onto the floor once they swing the locker door open.
"PRESENT!!!" Ed exclaims
He goes to hug you but you gently push him away. You cough a few times and eventually muster up the strength to push yourself up off the floor. The pain in your stomach returning as you clutch it, doubling back over.
"Warn me next time before you open the door.. Please.." You say weakly
"What are you doing in the Ed boy's locker F/n?" Rolf asks, furrowing his brows in confusion
You roll over to your side and lie there for a moment, silently staring up at the ceiling. You tap your chin in thought, pondering what response you should use today.
"I was looking for something." You reply blankly
"Did you find it?" Ed asks
"Nope." You answer casually, shrugging
"What did you lose?"
"Probably his/her pride."
"Ooh ouch."
Kevin shoves the short boy out of his way, mumbling something about him being a dork as approaches you, before offering you a hand that you take. Butterflies are floating around in your stomach as you stand in front of him, dusting yourself off.
"Hey um.. K-Kevin?" You ask softly
"Yeah?" He replies smoothly
You clutch your books tightly, looking around nervously. He waves a hand in your face, earning your attention.
"What's up?" He repeats "What did those dorks-"
"I-Its not them!" You interrupt
You flinch at your own loud tone, and take a deep breath.
"Then what's-"
"Will you go out with me?" You suddenly ask
Kevin blinks for a moment, as everyone glances around at each other in surprise.
"What?"
You swallow your pride, taking a deep breath before repeating what you'd just said. Only this time it was a bit softer and more hesitant.
"W-Will you.. Go out with me?"
"Uh.."
He looks around, panicking. He quickly slams his hand in a locker, telling you how he can't. because he'd broken his hand. Your smile drops as your heart sinks, all you could feel was rejection.
"R-Right. Forget I asked." You say "I'll.. I'll see you tomorrow."
You quickly walk off and begin to cry. But somehow, through your brisk walking a blurry vision you glance over at the cork board, noticing the big poster plastered up on it. You turn your direction and scoot over to it, running your finger over the words, tracing them as you read.
"Talent show?" You ask yourself softly
You look around, wiping a tear off your reddening face as you smile. This was your chance. You could win him over! You hurry to the auditorium, some of the kids, save for Kevin, Nazz, Eddy and Ed were there, practicing. You sign up quickly, being the first on the list. Double D walks in with a bright smile and a clipboard.
"Alright. Who's first?"
The clipboard is handed to him and he quickly scans it.
"You're up first F/n" He points out
"Right!" You smile
Double D hands you the microphone. You walk onto the stage as the music begins to play. Lee pulls the girls into a huddle and they whisper to each other in secret. They get split up one goes to stand behind the teachers who were in the back handling the system, one goes to one side of the stage and the other makes her way over there.
First, May walks out and grabs a cup of water from the snacks table. She walks over back behind the system and 'accidentally' spills it on the system. The lights begin to flicker.
Next, Marie sneaks up to the speaker system, unplugging a few plugs. Your singing is interrupted by some screeching noise. You drop your microphone to cover your ears. The crowd does the same.
Finally, Lee unties the curtains from where they were held up, causing them to drop on you. Everyone is in shock at what was happening.
"My leg! I-I can't move it!" You exclaim
You crawl out from under the curtains weakly. The real lights come on as the spotlights shut off. You can see everyone clearly now. Tears well up and quickly break loose, your hands fly up to your face as you cry. The speakers come back online and since the microphone is near your face, your pitiful sobbing echos throughout the room. It takes a moment for the kids to react. Plank, Johnny and Jimmy run up to you trying to calm you down as Sarah moves out the door screaming for the nurse, only to have Edd come to your aid.
