A Tale of Mischief and Mutants

I wait by the front entrance for Thor. I'm pacing. I know I should try and calm down but the thought of Sam ending up in M.R.D custody is eating away at me. Sam was safe with Peter so I could be gone for as long as I needed to be.

Finally I hear the sound of the bifrost I cannot help it, I step outside to meet Thor before he enters the building. Bruce is with him, I'll never get used to seeing the Hulk in a shirt no matter how often I go with him on missions.

Thor's carrying Stormbreaker and is in his armor but upon seeing me in casual clothes he taps the axe to the ground. The axe changes into an umbrella and his clothing changes to a more casual look as well. People are staring the base is supposed to be a secret, 'way to be low key Thor.' The two walk into the building Bruce carefully ducking beneath the door frame.

"Bruce why are you here?"

"Well you were acting worried during our mission a while back and I was gonna ask you about it but then you took off right away after. Thor just told me about what's been going on so here I am, also I talked to Jen and she's on her way over."

I'm surprised and I hope it doesn't show. It's stupid but though they are fools, much like with Thor, Sif, and The Warriors Three, I had wanted to be accepted into the group. I had always assumed none of the Avengers wanted me around but Bruce was acting as if he did, as if we were friends. Were we? He had gotten his cousin to help me...

"Just a fair warning Jen can be a little eccentric."

Bruce went on as if I hadn't looked stunned. I know I did my attempt to hide it came too late.

"Thank you Bruce."

I say this genuinely without thinking. Now it's his turn to look surprised.

"It's no problem."

We wait for a while in one of the meeting rooms discussing the problem at hand. I look at the clock and realize I've been gone for over two hours. Sam and Peter will be getting worried so I shoot Peter a text. I don't want to lie to Sam she's the only person in my life I haven't intentionally lied to yet. -'Tell Sam not to worry I'll be gone for a bit there's something going on I'll fill you both in on it later'-

I don't want her to panic, if I can get this sorted or at least have hope of a solution before telling her exactly what's going on I'd rather bring her that news than tell her that the M.R.D is going to take her and I don't have any way of preventing it. I get a response almost immediately -'okie dokie Loki 👍'- I can almost hear him through the text I roll my eyes and smile despite my worries about the current situation.
