A Tale of Mischief and Mutants

Intruder

I'm filled with a joy I haven't felt for a long time as Sam finishes explaining what had happened while I was gone. I would be mad at Thor for bringing her to Westchester and putting her in harms way if I weren't so happy at the prospect of Sam being by my side for millennia to come.

I can see why he did, Sam is quite stubborn and persuasive, if she had asked me I don't think I would have been able to tell her no either. Besides if not for this circumstance we wouldn't now know that she's worthy. I smile at Sam then pull her into a kiss it's longer than the others. I have a real chance with her now. I pull away and Thor nods moving his eyebrows up and down whilst giving me a teasing and approving smile I roll my eyes. Sam turns to Thor.

"I want to learn everything there is to know about this thing."

Thor nods.

"We can start tomorrow."

A few weeks later we're sitting in the garden Sam has been training with Thor every day and is already getting the hang of Mjölnir. Right now we're just relaxing in the afternoon sun.

Since she's lifted Mjölnir Sam has become a bit of a celebrity in New Asgard. I can tell our people like her. Those that had still purposely avoided me stopped doing so when she was with me. She was shy but kind when strangers came up to us which only endeared her to them more.

There were whispers around town about us. They were mostly true but people weren't sure and no one was brave enough to ask. My train of thought is broken when Sam seems to get startled by something.

"Did you see that?"

"No..?"

"There's someone out there."

She's looking out at a line of trees near the garden's edge. I hadn't heard or seen anything to indicate an intruder but Sam seems so sure. I get up and stand between her and the tree line. The birds are silent as if they sense a predator around. Other than this I don't notice anything unusual.

"I don't see anything Sa-"

I'm jumped by a blur of yellow and blue.
