A Tale of Mischief and Mutants

Not a Little Girl Anymore

I look out the window watching as Sam pulls Loki in for a kiss. It's obvious she's fallen for him. Why did it have to be him? Why not one of the X-men, Peter, or hell even Thor'd've been better. I would be able to trust him at least. I think back on what made me decide she was safe here and it was ok for me to return to Westchester.

It had been the middle of the night I had been sleeping in the waiting area outside of Sam's room when I heard her screamin' bloody murder. I ran in to find her attacking Loki. I let the claws pop but quickly realized that though her abilities had obviously lashed out at him giving him a black eye, Loki wasn't fightin' her he was reassuring her that everything was ok.

Sam who had obviously been waking up from a nightmare, somethin' I've had my fair share of experience with, seemed to realize who he was and collapsed into his arms realizing she was safe. He just sat there comforting her 'til she fell back asleep. I realized then that he wouldn't hurt her. I also realized why, it just suddenly clicked with me in that moment why he cares for her like he does, he started caring for her because she trusts him completely something I'm sure few are willing to do.

The guy's a loose cannon he might try to take over the world and kill thousands tryin', but from what I've seen I can trust he'd never lift a finger against Sam. At the moment I don't trust him with anything but her. I watch the two as they rejoin the group near the house. What am I going to do? Is there anything I can do? Sam's made her decision about him, she's not a little girl anymore.

I think back to the scared little girl I found hiding in a dumpster from a gang years ago. I can't believe she's the same woman standing out there today. I feel a swell of pride I can't believe she's capable of lifting that damn hammer. I ain't gonna like it but it might be time to let her grow up. Which means accepting her decision about Loki. Hopefully Sam can keep the guy out of trouble. I growl under my breath this ain't gonna be easy going forward.
