A Tale of Mischief and Mutants

Christmas Party

I feel that Tony has taken a liking to Loki and I he always seems to be excited to see us. Maybe he ships it.

"Reindeer Games!! They let you out of the freezer! How are you?!"

Loki looks both annoyed at the nickname and a little happy with Tony's obvious acceptance of him though he hides it well.

"I'm doing well."

"That's great you gave us all quiet the scare. How about you Sam? This guy been giving you trouble?"

I smile oh Tony what a character. I really never thought I'd consider him a friend when we met but his eccentric personality has grown on me. That and I now know he genuinely cares about me because of how he helped me in the hospital and about Loki because of the fact that he showed up there in the first place.

"Nothing I can't handle."

He laughs.

"Good glad you're keeping him in line. Well make yourselves at home we got cookies, hot chocolate, eggnog the whole works."

I nod smiling thankfully and we begin venturing further into the compound. As Loki passes closer to Tony, Tony finger guns in the direction of Loki's sweater.

"Love the sweater by the way Lokes."

My eyes catch just the smallest hint of a smile cross Loki's features from that comment. Maybe that's a nickname he won't find so terrible. I observe the people in the party there aren't as many civilians here as there were for Halloween thanks to it being held on Christmas Eve. As promised nearly everyone is wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. I see Vision and Wanda spot us as we walk and they come up to us. Wanda is the first to speak.

"I didn't expect to see you two here he never comes and with what happened I wouldn't blame you for staying home with him."

I smile.

"The timing worked out well he's literally just been given the go ahead by the doctors in New Asgard."

She looks to Loki a smile still on her lips.

"I hope you are feeling better we thought about visiting but figured you two would want some time alone together."

Loki nods he probably wouldn't have been completely comfortable with people visiting him in our home, people must have felt the same because no one ever did come besides Peter. I don't think it was done out of dislike or anything. I think the team is just very aware of his introverted habits though he thrives in social situations when he's thrusted into them I think he prefers not to be. Vision speaks then.

"Loki, Sam, I am aware that we already sent out an invitation to the Avengers months ago but that was before Sam joined the team and we wanted to make sure you both know you're welcome to come to our wedding in February."

Wanda nods.

"I would love for you both to be there if you can make it."

Loki looks unsure of how to feel likely due to being unaccustomed to such open acceptance from his teammates, but I answer immediately.

"Of course we will be there. I love you guys I can't wait."

Loki nods in agreement at my answer smiling slightly. We talk for a bit more I admire Wanda's ring and catch Loki looking at me oddly as I do so. He must just feel out of place here maybe we should talk to some other people. We move on and make conversation with other members of the team.

Clint brought his family one I wasn't really aware he had it was interesting they were your typical American family seemingly ordinary in every way. We eventually both get tired of socializing and become a pair of wallflowers we sip drinks sitting in a more secluded spot in the compound away from people.

We're discussing some of the things about the holiday Loki still doesn't quite understand when Tony's daughter Morgan comes running past us. She suddenly looses her balance and trips landing hard on the floor and injuring her knee. She begins crying and being we're the only adults within earshot it's up to us to take care of this. I stand up walking over to the girl.

"Hey it's ok Morgan."

She sniffles still sitting on the floor holding her injured knee. It's scrapped up and bloody.

"It h-hurts so bad."

"It's alright I can help you."

"I want mommy."

She's still bawling. Loki gets up and leaves giving me a nod on his way out presumably to find Pepper.

"He'll find her, my name's Sam is it ok if I help you for now?"

Morgan nods with tears streaming down her face I gently take her hand and in a second she stops crying and looks dumbfounded at her healed knee. Her wound isn't bad at all I'm honestly more worried about stains thankfully I wore black leggings today. She wipes tears from her face with her hand.

"How did you do that?"

I hesitate for a second before smiling and answering, her parents wouldn't have instilled that fear in her.

"I'm a mutant that's my ability."

Morgan nods unfazed. She looks me over.

"Your knee's all wet."

She's a sharp one I had hoped for me being injured to go unnoticed by her.

"Oh it's fine I just knelt into some snow earlier."

She looks confused.

"But Ms. Sam it wasn't wet before."

I sigh she's too smart what else did I expect from the daughter of Tony Stark. Luckily before I have to answer for this Loki returns with Pepper. Pepper scoops Morgan up in concern.

"Honey are you ok?"

Morgan smiles and nods excitedly.

"I'm ok! Ms. Sam healed me she's a mutant!"

Pepper who knows how my abilities work looks to me in concern. I smile. She smiles back realizing it's not a big deal to me.

"Did you say thank you?"

Morgan smiles.

"Thank you Ms. Sam!"

I smile at this Morgan is adorable. Her mother nods in gratitude and mouths a thank you as well then walks away still carrying Morgan. Loki comes up to me and guides me to a seat. He produces a package of bandages and I roll up my pant leg. He smiles slightly as he treats the wound, he knew when he got those bandages they weren't going to be used for Morgan. I smile slightly this has become a bit of a routine when I get hurt whatever the damage large or small he always patches me up.

"Morgan's a sweet kid."

He nods staying silent he finishes and takes a seat next to me pulling me closer to him. I lean up against him. We should probably go back to socializing soon but right now I'm content to stay like this.
