A Tale of Mischief and Mutants

Family Reunion (yay)

As I come out of the tree line near the school I can hear bullets wizzing by me barely missing. I get close enough to the school to gain some cover from the shrubbery. I need to get inside.

"Hey who-"

I turn around at the familiar voice.

"S- Sam?"

It's Scott. Looking at me in disbelief. I smile.

"I saw the news I thought I should drop by and see if you needed any help."

Scott looks me up and down as if assessing whether or not I'm real.

"We... we all thought you were dead."

"I almost was."

We're then interrupted by a spray of bullets. We have to get on the ground to avoid being hit.

"This probably isn't the best time to explain."

Scott nods and we both start crawling to a secret entrance into the building. When we get inside I find myself in a hug. Although I'm not the most fond of Scott I still missed him and hug him back. We pull away.

"Where is everyone?"

"Laura, Jubilee, and Kurt are keeping them contained to the first floor. Storm and Rogue are stopping them from raiding us from the back of the school, myself, Colossus, and Gambit are trying to keep them out of the front of the school and everyone else is underground with the kids."

"Logan is underground?"

"No, you know him, he's off doing God knows what in Canada."

Of course the M.R.D would wait for Logan to leave before attacking the school. I clench my fist why can't they just leave us in peace? I hear a loud voice in a thick Russian accent speak then.

"Scott we need you outside comrade."

I can't help but let a big smile form on my face. Piotr. I turn around to see him.

"Samantha?!"

Suddenly I'm being lifted off the ground into a big nearly suffocating metallic hug.

"Hey big guy."

He sets me down and looks me over.

"We thought you were dead."

"So I've heard."

I turn to Scott as he is the leader of the X-men.

"I'm here to help, what do you want me to do?"

I fight through the M.R.D to join Laura, Kurt, and, Jubilee on the first floor. When I finally get to them I take out an officer about to incapacitate Jubilee with a baton to the head.

"Hey."

I greet her casually. I smirk.

"Thanks."

She turns to start fighting an oncoming group of officers then does a double take.

"Wait. Sam?!"

We step into an alcove so we don't have to worry about being in the line of fire.

"Surprise!"

She gives me a hug then pulls away.

"Where have you been?!"

I avoid the question.

"That is a story for a day when someone's not trying to kill us."

"But that's like every day!"

I giggle at her excited tone I've missed her overwhelmingly cheerful personality. We step back out into battle and begin fighting Jubilee looks at me in surprise as I summon a dagger and take out an officer with it. She takes out three more with her abilities. Then looks over at me in bewilderment at my use of magic.

"Where did you learn that?!"

I laugh oh Jubes you have no idea how much explaining I'd have to do to answer that question.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"Oh come on! We've fought aliens together!"

"Yup and the explanation is even stranger than that!"

"Stranger? Is that a hint?"

I laugh.

"No nice guess though."

I smell sulfur as Kurt appears in a puff of smoke beside me.

"Oh mein Gott! Laura was right she thought she smelled you. I just came to tell Jubilee we're pretty clear on our end."

We exchange a hug. The hallway is pretty clear on both ends right now so we move closer to the door we are trying to protect. Laura is just finishing incapacitating an officer near the door. She notices me standing there. Laura isn't a very touchy-feely person so I'm not expecting it when she gives me a hug.

"Oh...?"

"I missed you."

She pulls away and looks me over.

"You've been through some shit haven't you?"

I nod. Laura has also been through the unimaginable. She doesn't ask where I've been or question my sudden appearance I'm grateful.

"I'm glad you're home."

I nod. I know I won't be able to stay here if I survive this but decide not to say anything. Suddenly we're hit with a large wave of officers. We can't fight them all, they just keep coming for every one we take down there's another there to take their place.

We're eventually backed up into the first underground floor of the school dangerously close to the children we are trying to protect. We're getting overrun and back down another flight of stairs. Then I see them, huddled in a corner, a group of kids.

I fight with everything I have but I fall when my legs land painfully beneath me after doing a fighting maneuver. The officers are on top of me in a second pinning me down I strain to see what's going on. I see the officers approaching the terrified kids guns drawn.
