—-Loki—-

I can't stop myself from seething in anger a bit as we finish getting ready for the day. I hadn't meant to look... well at least not for long, but the scars had made me stare. Much like my own they run up and down her back. The tool had obviously been different but the intent behind them had been the same in both our cases, control.

They've reminded me of just how much Sam had gone through and that those responsible hadn't been caught yet. The moment I get an inkling of an idea as to their whereabouts I will swiftly amend that. When I find them they'll suffer for each time she's woken up in tears from reliving the horrors she suffered at their hands, for every time she's been filled with fear at the mere sight of a syringe, and for every scar marking her body.

I don't care about the consequences I'd face for taking such revenge it's not as if me spending the rest of my life in the Raft will drastically affect anyone. Peter and Thor would be sad but I don't doubt they'd both eventually somewhat forget about me and move on. I've finally found someone that means something to me in a way I didn't think was possible. Though I know she won't last long and won't feel the same because of who and what I am I still feel like she's worth protecting.

When we are finished getting ready for the day including a rushed breakfast we open the door to leave the room. Fury's standing in the hall and Sam quickly puts me between herself and the man.

"What do you want?!"

I'm annoyed by his presence here. He knows Sam's skittish even in the best of circumstances and he decides to come down here today?!

"I'm just here to tell you how transit from here to the courthouse will work. You of all people should be aware that since she's in S.H.I.E.L.D custody she will be required to wear handcuffs and be escorted by my agents the second she steps foot out of the building."

I don't know why Fury insists upon getting under my skin today. If looks could kill he'd be dead from mine. I snap back letting my irritation show with my tone.

"Yes, I am aware! We're not leaving quite yet so if you'll excuse us!"

Fury lifts an eyebrow. He's not used to people snapping at him he's used to people following his orders. He should know by now to expect different from me. Fury seems to realize something then steps out of our way. I guide Sam and I past him and we begin to walk away.

"Your plan is solid."

I turn back around.

"What?"

"I don't see this not playing out in your favor I'm happy for you."

The director sure has an odd way of showing it. I realize now he was just being what was the Midgardian term? 'A hard ass'.

"Thank you."

We take off down the hall to a meeting room where I know Thor will be waiting. Sam ducks back behind me upon catching sight of Thor who is still in armor from a mission and is holding Stormbreaker over his shoulder. I suppose he does appear a bit intimidating to someone who doesn't know how much of an overgrown child he is. Thor shifts his gaze to Sam who's peeking out from behind me timidly.

"So this is Sam."

"Yes, she's a little shy."

"That's understandable."

Sam whispers and it's nearly inaudible.

"Um Loki?"

Sam's shaking like a leaf, she's scared, of course she is, she's been through the unimaginable. I try to comfort her.

"Sam he's alright he's just my brother. You know Thor, one of the Avengers? He's safe I promise you."

My brother, the kind hearted fool, simply shrugs it off.

"It's fine."

He reassures Sam so she knows he's not offended, Thor doesn't force the issue any further with her. He taps his axe on the ground and changes into a suit Stormbreaker as usual changes into an umbrella.

"Are you guys ready to go then?"

Agent Hill is standing in the doorway now. She's holding a pair of cuffs. Sam spots them and immediately tenses up and backs away several steps. I'm hit with another mixture of anger and sadness at just how frightened Sam's become by the sight of them... Norns know what kind of negative connotations she has with handcuffs. I feel sick to my stomach as my mind is involuntarily flooded by it's own guesses. I look to agent Hill.

"Here, give them to me."

I cautiously step towards Sam with them. I know Sam would let Hill do it but, Sam doesn't have to let a stranger put them on, I'll do it. Hopefully that's not somehow worse. Sam eyes the cuffs in my hand with disgust. I rest my hand on her cheek and I'm pleased to see her habit of flinching doesn't make an appearance with me.

"I promise you the minute we get you citizenship you will never wear chains again."

She nods and she extends her hands out towards me allowing me to put them on, her hands shaking slightly. I take her hand and give her a small smile which she returns it's filled with anxiety. I then wrap my arms around her and look around for the agents that will be escorting us as I hold her close. Hill sees this.

"It's just going to be me accompanying you to the courthouse."

Fury, I smile to myself. Not such a 'hard ass' after all. We all leave, then get into a car that will take us to the courthouse.
