—-Loki—-
I can feel the temperature shift as I near the rocks where Kurt stands I'm suddenly uncomfortably warm. I pull my coat off as I look in the direction that holds Kurt's attention. The rocks hadn't simply been rocks they had been the marking of a cliff edge.
From everything I know of Midgard's geology what I see in the valley below makes no sense. It's a rainforest. The heat from the tropical climate radiating from below.
I look to the others hoping for an explanation as I continue removing my winter gear which has quickly become intolerable. They look about as confused as I am. Hank is the first to speak.
"An uncharted tropical valley hidden in Antarctica?! This is fantastic!"
Scott turns to the woman with dark skin and white hair.
"Storm can you fly down there and see if there's a way down?"
Storm nods and looks like she's concentrating on something then looks at Scott worried.
"My powers haven't been working since the moment we got here."
Scott looks around at the group
"Rogue can you?"
"No problem."
She leaps into the air but crashes painfully into the ground.
"My powers are gone!"
"You sure chère?"
"No. I just crashed into the ground cause I thought it'd be a hoot!"
"Hmmm."
Gambit seems to think for a moment then goes to Rogue and kisses her. She looks surprised when he pulls away. He gives her a mischievous grin.
"Gambit just had to be sure."
"You swamp rat!"
Scott hesitantly pulls off his visor when nothing happens he instructs the group.
"Everyone check your powers."
I have no trouble with my magic or my strength. Sam then humorously questions the group.
"Anybody want a paper cut?"
"I'll bite."
Logan answers wanting a way to test his own abilities. She tries to give him a paper cut but it won't work. Nobody's powers are working but mine. Hank looks like he's wracking his brain for an explanation.
"Curious this phenomenon cannot be natural! I'm at a loss to explain it."
Scott looks at me suspiciously.
"I assure you I have nothing to do with this."
"Really then why are you the only one unaffected?"
"He's also the only non mutant here."
Jubilee points out. Scott looks ready to argue some more but Kitty speaks up.
"Guys if there's a jungle down there that means it's habitable which means Xavier could still be alive."
Laura looks at the cliff side sadly.
"Kitty I don't think that cliff's traversable in a wheelchair."
"We should look anyway."
For once I agree with Scott. With such a habitat this close to the crash site it would be foolish not to. The heat will be uncomfortable but I have practice dealing with an uncomfortable amount of heat, the jungle can't be any worse than nearly a year of being broken into submission by the nearly constant overheating of my cell aboard Sanctuary. I don't hesitate to use my magic to help everyone down the cliff side.
