Brooklyn~
"Mom! Dad! Welcome to Los Angeles! I'm so happy you could make it out for Christmas," I say as Christian helps load their stuff into his car.
"What about me?" my brother says from behind them.
"Oh, I didn't forget about you. Come here, hug your favorite, and only sibling," I say teasing him. "How's school been going? You still getting that degree?"
"Yeah. I graduate in May," he says as we all get into the car. "I'll be there. I don't like that you're growing up. You're not so much my little brother anymore."
"How do you think mom and dad feel? Both of their kids on their own?" he says and I laugh.
"I think we're handling it pretty well. Okay, maybe just me," my dad says and makes us all laugh and my mom elbow him. This is the stuff that I miss. The family banter and love that we all share.
"Mom, go sit down. I got it," I tell her as she gets some food ready for our big Christmas dinner with both of our families.
"Have you started to pack yet?" she asks me and that reminds me that I need to do that. Christian and I leave in 3 days for our much-needed vacation.
"No, but, I've started making my list like I normally do."
She gives me a disapproving look, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Because I know that you are going to wait until the last minute to pack."
She's right, I will.
"Mom, I'll get it done," I say as Christian, my dad's, and Caleb's laugh echo from the outside. Oh, god. What could they be laughing about?
They all come inside still laughing, "Why are you guys laughing so hard?" I ask them almost scared to know what it's about.
"You wanna tell her?" my dad asks Christian. "Oh, god."
"They were telling me about the time you went skiing and it didn't go so well," he says still laughing about it. I'll admit, it was pretty funny when I told them what happened that day. "You seriously took out a kid while trying to stop?"
Is this embarrass Brooklyn day? "Yeah, it was my first time skiing and I accidentally went down the wrong passage and couldn't control myself and I hit a kid. Did they tell you that I thought I tore my ACL?"
"No, but that almost makes it better," he says and I throw a towel at him.
"Yes, I tumbled down the mountain and almost tore my ACL on my last run of the day. Oh, to make it better, they live-streamed some of the slopes too. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see it happen because it would've been fucking hilarious to see," I say laughing, "I remember coming down the mountain in tears because I was in so much pain and I was so embarrassed."
They all just start hysterically laughing again as I continue to make some food. "Oh, that's a good one," my dad says as he sits down on one of the stools.
I head to the door and see Alecia, Collin, and Cam all waiting outside. "Hi, Merry Christmas," I say and greet each of them with a hug. "You guys can set the food in the kitchen. Christian, my dad, and Caleb are outside doing something. And my mom is in the kitchen I believe."
Alecia and I walk over to the kitchen where my mom stands preparing the food to be set out. "Liz! It's so nice to see you again. I'm so glad you could make it out here."
"Us too! It's so nice to be somewhere warm for the holidays."
We look over at the guys as Christian is showing them one of his bats. "We are seriously outnumbered," I tell them, and they both nod and laugh.
