Brooklyn~
I woke up a little earlier than Christian and made my way downstairs to go over some emails and make us breakfast. I noticed it snowed last night as I looked out into our backyard. Nothing unusual for Wisconsin in early April.
There's a knock at our door. I furrow my brow, I don't think we were expecting anyone this early. It's like 8:30, who could be there. I thought about not answering but they kept knocking. I walk over to the door and wrap my cardigan around my torso as I knew when I opened the door the wind would blow in. "Dad?" I ask confused why he's standing on our doorstep.
"Hey, come in," I say opening the door more and letting him in.
"I just cleared your driveway. I figured you didn't have anyone coming so I thought I would head up here and I haven't seen you in a bit."
"Thanks. I was just going to leave it alone. I didn't even know it was supposed to snow. We got home a little late and I didn't watch the news or anything," I tell him as we walk into the kitchen. "Late game?"
"Yeah, they won, the game just ran late," I say and he nods. "How's Christian?"
"He's borderline injured. I'm sure he's still sleeping. Opening night he came back down into the dugout like the 7th inning and I could tell he felt uncomfortable. He's still playing but we're just keeping an eye out. We leave in a few days for Chicago and St. Louis so we all want him healthy to play those games. Don't you have work?"
"No, I called off. I've been working awful hours, 6-4 every day and then also on the weekend 6-2, so I just needed a break and they let me take off."
"That's what it felt like toward the end of the season last year. I was completely burnt out."
He nods and hugs me, "Well, I better get going. I'm gonna head home and enjoy the silence," I chuckle at his slight shade toward my mom.
"Oh yeah, I wouldn't want to miss out on that either." We walk toward the door, "What time is the game?"
"3:10, we play the Reds."
"Good to know. I love you."
"I love you too Dad. Thanks for clearing our driveway." I stand on our porch waving at him as he backed out of our driveway.
I walk back into the house and see Christian eating some of the food I made. "Who was that?"
"My dad. He came and cleared the driveway since it snowed a couple of inches last night," I say and he nods.
"What time do we need to be there?" he asks me as I continue to look through my email. "Well, if you want to do some therapy before you play, and also get in some bp, I would say noon."
"Okay, that sounds good," he says stretching out his back. I watch his facial reactions to see if he winces at any point. He really doesn't so either he's really good at hiding it or what we're doing is working.
"I think my back's starting to feel better," I raise my eyebrows at his comment.
"Good, I'm glad," I tell him and walk over to him as he stands near the sink. I put my dish in the sink and jump up onto the island. I run my fingers through his hair as some pieces fell on his face, "You're going to need a haircut soon."
"You like my hair longer though." He's got a point. "Yeah, I do, but I love when you have a nice, fresh cut." He steps over to me and stands between my legs, "I'll keep that in mind." I giggle and wrap my arms around his neck as his snake around my waist, pulling me toward the edge of the counter.
I walk into my office after being in the dugout watching some guys do some private bp with Andy and our strength coach, "Well, I'm glad you're doing these stretches," I say walking in and seeing Christian on the floor. He chose quite possibly the hardest floor to do it on, so I don't know how well it's going.
