Brooklyn~
Kayden starts softly cooing, gaining both of our attention as we fly to Phoenix to start Spring Training. He continues to look around at us as Christian holds him tightly against his chest. "Are you excited to be back?" Christian asks me as I work on my computer trying to pass time.
"Yes. I've been off for too long."
"It was only one more month off than normal."
"Well, that was too long for me." He laughs, "What could you even be doing right now?"
"Going through everything I missed. I didn't really pay attention the last four weeks of the season so everything that was emailed to me, yeah didn't go through anything."
"And then you didn't do anything because you were actually on maternity leave for twelve weeks after he was born."
"Correct. So I need to catch up on what I can before I go in."
"I don't know how you do it."
"I surprise myself sometimes too. But, I gotta get it done and I'm not trying to stay late throughout Spring Training unless I have to."
"Do we have any late games?"
"A few, toward the end though. It'd be great if I didn't have to work those and the other two can handle it."
"Can't they though?"
"I don't see why they wouldn't be able to. I'm just assuming the front office is going to want me there." I close my laptop and put it back in my bag since we're going to be landing soon. "I think he wants his momma." I reach across the seats and take Kayden from Christian. He snuggles right into me when I lay him down. I love it when he does this, it's so heartwarming.
"Such a momma's boy."
I scoff, "So are you."
He rolls his eyes, "Touché."
"Yeah, I got you there, didn't I?"
"Yeah, you did," he says and we both laugh. I can already tell this is going to be a weird season. It's a lot different than being pregnant versus actually having a baby during a season where you both work the exact same hours. I start to space out as I continue to think about this, "What are you thinking about?"
"We're gonna be just fine, right?"
He moves over to the seat next to me, "Just think we have all the support we could ever need. Your parents and Maggie said they would watch him when they could. Obviously, when my mom comes into visit she would watch him. During the away games we both know he'll be just fine with the other wives up in the suite."
"It's just weird to think about, he's been here for almost four months and we've just been having so much fun as a family and I don't want that to go away."
"It won't go away. We both know there's going to be late nights for possibly all three of us, but there will be tons of early nights where we can just be with each other. Babe, he's such an easy baby, I mean, yeah, he has his moments but doesn't every baby? I really don't think we have much to worry about. He's in good hands with whomever he's with."
"I just never really thought about any of this before. We discussed it a couple of months ago, but now it's like it's really happening."
"Would this have stopped you from having a baby if you knew it was going to be like this?"
I shake my head, "No. I don't regret anything from the past year. He lights up my world more than you do. I think I just don't want either of us to miss something, like a big milestone like taking his first steps or his first word."
