Brooklyn ~
Christian and I made it back from Atlanta and went straight back to work. Although a little vacation from reality was needed, I missed working. More importantly, I missed working with the guys. They have become like my best friends in a matter of months. I grew so many new relationships with them and it made me feel complete. It was like a little extra support system. I knew they would have my back and I would have theirs.
I was currently sitting at my desk, on my phone waiting for some of the guys to come in, specifically Jacob. Since we left for Atlanta, he had surgery to fix his MCL and he was scheduled every day to come in to do physical therapy with one of the physical therapists and do some check-ins with me. I hear a knock at my door and look up to see Jacob standing there, leaning on his crutches waiting for my attention.
"Hey, how are you?" I ask as we head over to one of the beds that were lower to the ground. "Pretty good. I'm still bummed I can't play but, I'll get over it," he says as he shrugs. "Well if you keep up with your therapy and you aren't pushing yourself too much, you could be back by early to mid-August," I tell him and watch his face light up.
"Seriously, you think I could be back by then?" he asks and I laugh. "Yes, but only if you continue to listen to us here and your doctors. If you seem healed enough by then, and Couns is given the okay, you could be in for our August and September push for the playoffs." I watch as he gets really excited and acts like a little kid when they find out they can practice again. Jacob gets up and does some very minimal exercises that he has been told to do and I watch him to make sure he doesn't fall.
"Thanks for everything Brooklyn," he says as I hand him his crutches. "It's what I'm here for," I say walking back to my office. He laughs and smiles, "Well, I just wanted to acknowledge that I appreciate everything that has been done for me, from you, the rest of the training staff, and the guys," he says and I nod. "You have a good group of people that supports you well and you deserve it."
Jacob makes his way out of the trainer's room and starts to head to the clubhouse when I hear some slight yelling but I then realize it's the rest of the guys, well, being guys. They come in like a herd of sheep and stare at me like I can get to them all at once. "Do you guys have to be so loud all the time?" I ask and I look up and see multiple heads nod. I roll my eyes at them, "Go take a seat at one of the beds. I'm the only one today again, so go easy on me," I say laughing.
I go in order from how they were sitting and get to the one and only Ryan Braun. He may quite possibly be my favorite to work with. "Ryan, what do you need?" I ask him as he looks up and smirks at me.
"Oh, me?" I look at him and nod.
"Nothing. I just wanted to sit in here and talk to you," he says and I scold him and scoff.
"Ryan, you know I have a job to do and can't always talk," I say and move on to the next guy while still conversing with Ryan as he still sits on the bed.
Fortunately, the next guy was Christian and I didn't care if he heard what we talked about. Those two were so close it was like Ryan adopted Christian as his little brother and it made my heart so full.
"Brooklyn, I know you have a job to do. But, I think talking to me should be a part of your job," Ryan says and I look up at Christian and shake my head.
Christian slightly laughs, "You won't ever hear the end of it if you don't talk to him," he says and I turn around and face Ryan again.
I lean back on Christian and listen to those two go back and forth with each other. "Ryan? What did you want to talk about?" I say getting his attention back. "Oh, right. Well, on our next road trip in like a week, the rest of the guys were wondering if you and the rest of the training staff wanted to participate in the spirit days and I wanted to see if you wanted to participate in the WAGs softball game," he says and I try to take it all in.
