Brooklyn~
"Maggie!! It's so nice to finally see you again. I feel like we haven't hung out in so long. How are you?" I say and embrace her in a long-awaited hug. We went to our favorite lunch restaurant that overlooks Lake Michigan.
"Brooklyn, I am doing so well. Will and I are doing really well too and honestly, I think he's the one," she tells me and my mouth drops wide open. "Oh my god, stop it. Maggie, there is no thinking. He is the one."
She smiles, "What about you? How is 25 treating you so far?"
I look down at the menu and smile, "It's been amazing. I mean you know this year started out pretty shitty during Spring Training and all. But, it got better. Now, it's amazing. Christian and I are moving in with each other so that's really exciting and a big step that I'm ready to take."
"You guys are end game. There's no doubt," she tells me and I smile brightly. "Are you moving into his place?"
"Well, actually we are looking at getting our own place, probably in Whitefish Bay. I'm actually headed to a few viewings after our lunch. His brother is a realtor here and can get us a deal."
We ordered our lunch and continued to talk. "So how is working with the Brewers?"
"It's amazing. I can find the perfect word for it yet. We're like a family and it's so nice to go into a workplace and be appreciated and not looked over. I mean you know that was my worst fear. I would go into this job and be overlooked and not be able to show them what I know."
"See and this is why you graduated top of the class and have a superstar baseball boyfriend." I lightly scoff and smile, "What about you? How's nursing going?" Maggie graduated a year earlier than me and immediately got hired at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and has been thriving ever since. "I love it so much. I mean you know I love working with the kids and making them feel better. It gets hard sometimes but I wouldn't want to be doing anything else."
"I love that you love working there. I get it too. I hate watching the guys get hurt, especially Christian. Luckily, we've been doing pretty good this year. Not a lot of injuries, the guys are healthy so it's been easy but also weirdly stressful."
"How are the guys looking this year? You think they can make it again?"
I think about it for a minute before answering, "Honestly, I think they could. They just need to keep pushing themselves. I know they can do it again. I want them to do it again. After the All-Star break, it's kind of just waiting for us to get into September when we are our prime selves. We thrive in September. I think if they keep their focus, they can make it far again."
"Good to know. Will and I will definitely be there for some postseason baseball cheering you, Christian, and the rest of the guys on." Our food comes out and it smells and looks delicious. "This is why this place is our favorite," I say before I take a drink of my white wine.
"You got that right."
"Good luck with house hunting!" Maggie tells me as we exit the restaurant and head to our cars. "Thank you. I'll text you if we find something. We should all get together soon, maybe a small double date?"
"Yes! That's a great idea. I'll text you later," she tells me and I nod before we hug one more time.
I make the drive to Whitefish Bay blasting my "feel good" music playlist. I tap my fingers on the steering wheel as I pull up to this beautiful house that overlooks Whitefish Bay. If we pick this place, we would be really close to Ryan. I'm sure he would really enjoy that.
