Brooklyn~
Christian and I stand outside the doors that lead to the reception. Our bridal party just walked in before us and sat down at the table. Some random feel-good song starts to play and our officiant starts to speak, "Please help me welcome the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Yelich!"
Before the doors open, I turn to Christian, "I like the sound of that." He smirks and kisses the side of my head, "I do too."
The doors open and our guests clap and shout as we enter and make our way to the dance floor for our first dance.
The beginning of Better Together by Luke Combs sounds through the speakers as Christian pulls me close to him. His arms are around my waist as we sway back and forth to the music. I run my fingers through his hair on the back of his head. He tucks his head into my neck and continues to hold me.
The way you say "I love you, too" is like rain on an old tin roof. And your hand fits right into mine like a needle in a groove.
God, I love this man. He's mine forever.
And if I'm being honest, your first and my last name. Would just sound better together, and probably always will.
I lightly hum the last few lyrics, It's a match made up in heaven, like good ol' boys and beer. And me, as long as you're right here.
He looks down at me and lightly smirks. He mouths, "I love you," as the song comes to an end.
We stand there and just hug before we break apart and my dad is called to the floor.
"Honey, I just wanted to say how proud of you I am. You make us both so proud," he says quietly as we sway back and forth to our song, Dear Daughter, "I'll always be here for you. Me and your mom."
"I know you will be."
We sway back and forth and continue to quietly talk to each other. I give him one last big squeeze before exiting the dance floor to watch Christian and Alecia dance to their song.
I walk over to where Collin and Maggie were standing as they were talking about something. "Whatever you two did to make Cody not look like an idiot is amazing. And I appreciate you both so much."
"I wouldn't let that happen," Maggie tells me and hugs me. I look over at Christian and his mom as they dance and see them talking like my dad and I did.
"Are we eating after this? I will get hangry at my own wedding."
"Yeah, they're going to let us get our food and then everybody else. Then you guys can mingle and dance."
"Sounds good. I'll be in my seat, taking off my heels." They both laugh and I think they think I'm kidding. Seriously, these shoes are not the comfiest.
Such a relief to have those off. They're cute and all but, wow, they're uncomfy. Christian comes off the dance floor and sits down by me, "Feet hurt already?"
"Yep, couldn't do it anymore. We're about to eat, too."
"Can't let you be hangry," I laugh and put my shoes under my chair.
"Hey, if you guys want to go get your food, go ahead," Emma tells our entire table that sits at the front of the space. Christian offers his hand out to me which I gladly accept. He twirls me as we make our way to the buffet table.
As we get back to the table and sit down. I look around at all of our friends and family that came out here and realize how thankful I am for all of them. They start lining up to get their food when someone starts clinking their glass. I look down the table and see Ryan smirking at us.
