Brooklyn~
This game was going even slower after everything that has happened. It's the bottom of the 6th and luckily, we were winning. I kept running back and forth to check on Jacob and see if the scans I did were up. I think everyone in the dugout could tell it was not my night and I was stressed to the max.
I check my phone to see if Jacob's scans were up and luckily they were. I stand up and look at Christian as I can tell he's watching me. I take off jogging to my office and look at the scans on my computer to get a bigger picture. I see that Jacob tore his MCL and I go out to him to do some further examination to make sure I didn't miss anything.
"What'd you find?" he asks in a quiet voice.
"I wish I had better news. Your scans show that you tore your MCL, but from the scans, it doesn't seem like it is completely shredded so that is excellent news. You do need to go see a doctor here to get more scans and determine if you do need surgery. If you do need surgery, you will be out for about six weeks and that is with surgery and physical therapy. Um, so I know you obviously don't want to be hurt, but it can be worse than we thought. Look on the bright side of this. You can be back playing baseball in six weeks after your surgery if PT goes as planned," I tell him going over some of the Brewer's plans for him.
"Now, I have to go back out there and tend to anyone out there. Let me know if you need anything," I say before heading back through the tunnels of Miller Park.
"Couns?" I say getting his attention. He turns around and I tell him about Jacob's physical state.
"Brooklyn, that is great news. I was really hoping it wasn't going to be season-ending for him," he says as he looks toward home plate and I realize Christian is up to bat. He hits the ball straight to the center fielder and comes back to the dugout high-fiving each of us.
I let out a relieved breath and go back to where I was sitting and start watching the game again. I start to relax a little more knowing Jacob will only be gone for a few weeks recovering. If only this game could go a little faster so I could get this night over with.
Luckily the guys pulled out a win and Christian and I could get going soon. We weren't going to be as late as I thought we were so that makes me feel even better. Christian came into my office and sat down in my chair and waited for me to be done.
Ryan came in and talked to Christian before coming to me. I squinted my eyes at him and just laughed, "What do you need now?" I tease him.
"Haha. I just wanted to say you got this. For being the only one tonight, you handled it well. I know you were stressed before the game and luckily it worked out in your favor. Your parents are going to love him, don't worry about it." I let out a breath and nod, "Thank you, Ryan," I say as he pulls me into one of his dad/brotherly hugs. "Nothing to thank me for. Now, go get 'em."
I smile as he walks out and I walk back into my office looking for the extra set of clothes I brought so we didn't have to go back to my place to change.
I shut my door and Christian stayed right where he was, watching me. "What are you gonna watch me the entire time?" I say to him. "Yep!" he says making me laugh. I roll my eyes and go back to changing my work clothes to normal street clothes. I put on a fitted, cropped, black t-shirt, and some light-wash jeans. I change my shoes to some simple, short, black heels and put on the jewelry I brought with me.
Christian comes behind me as I am putting my earrings in and places his hands on the sides of my waist. "You look great, babe," he says as he looks me in the eyes through the mirror I am standing in front of.
