Brooklyn~
October 2024
We flew back to Malibu last night since the guys didn't even get a taste of the playoffs, unfortunately. We're both bummed but you can't dwell on what's been done already. Just an extra-long off-season with my boys. Kayden is nearing his first birthday, which is insane to think about. My baby boy is about to be one. We're having a small party with family and some of our close friends to celebrate. He's pretty much-mastered walking and loves showing it off to everyone. He's almost to the point where he'll be talking. I'm very sure his first word will be 'dada' just because that's the syllable he's getting out just not putting it all together yet. Which is rude, I did all that work for nine months for him to say 'dada' first.
I watch as Christian and Kayden play down on the beach as Christian rolls a baseball and Kayden throws it toward him. For being almost one, he's got an arm on him. I stood against the railing watching them and looking out at the water and sky. I got dinner cooking right now too. We spent the day out here enjoying some actual normalcy without baseball. "Babe, come down here," Christian says getting my attention as he waves me down. I wrap the cover-up I had on around me and walk down the stairs to meet my two favorite humans.
He tosses me the ball and I catch it and toss it back to him. "Dinner is almost done." Kayden starts walking toward me and I scoop him up in my arms and twirl around in the sand. I walk over and put my feet in the water as the tide comes and goes. "The beach looks good on you," he says as he looks like he's admiring me. "It's always looked good on me."
Christian wraps his arms around me before speaking, "So I've been talking with my mom for the past few weeks..." Oh god, where is this going? He turns me toward the south side of the coast and points, "Do you see that piece of land down there with the drop-off?"
I follow his finger and finally see what he's talking about, "Yeah, what about it?"
"Well, that land is not being used as of right now and it's going for a really good price. That being said, would you be interested in fully building, designing, and then obviously living there in the future?"
I turn the face him, "What?" I ask completely shocked. "I know it's a lot, but I've been thinking that this house is getting too small. Whenever we do have another kid, I just want to make sure we have the room and space for that."
I lift my sunglasses so he can how shocked I actually am right now, "I don't even know what to say," I laugh and look back at the view of this land. "So, is that a yes?"
I nod, "Let's do it."
"I'll call her later to let her know," he says and pulls me into him. "How did you keep that from me?" I ask as we walk back up to the house.
"Well, mom let me know that some land was available near this place and so I kind of looked into it a little. She went over to scope it out and let me know if it was a good idea or not. She loved it, the view is amazing. On the other side of the drop-off, there is access to the beach so that we wouldn't be losing this amazing feeling of the sand underneath our feet. With her realtor mind, she let me know what was going on and all that. She called me a couple of weeks ago to show me what it looked like. But I wanted you to see it in person before I told you just so you knew what we were getting ourselves into. It just felt right to do, we can completely design it and make it our own."
"What do we need to do?"
"Well, after we're done eating and he's gone to bed, we can look at the rough draft of the layout I got from mom. I've seen a few pieces of it but not the whole thing just yet. If we want to make changes, we let the contractor know and those changes will be made."
He keeps shocking me as he just spills everything now, "There's a layout now? Oh my god, you move quick."
"Well, I'd like to be in by the end of 2025 if that was at all possible. Now's the time to be buying property so we were looking around at the contractors in the area and they gave us a bunch of quotes. The one I got lined up right now, he's pretty professional. My mom was showing me some of the other work he's done and it's incredible. He'll do pretty much everything. Breaking ground, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, framing, anything."
