Brooklyn ~
We made it back from our road trip and I finally could sleep in my own bed. Don't get me wrong, I love to travel, but nothing beats sleeping in your own bed, under your warm covers. Christian and I hung out every night we were on the road. We were just having fun, enjoying each other's company, and honestly acting like we were in a relationship, but neither one of us said anything. I loved being around Christian, he brought so much joy to my life that I have been missing.
We planned a night in after the game. We both needed it, he was exhausted from playing and I just needed a breather and a break from work and reality. He would be at my place soon so I changed into some Nike Pro's and sweatpants and threw on a t-shirt. I was in the kitchen getting some glasses of wine out before I heard a knock at my door.
I opened the door and saw Christian standing there with a bag of takeout and a big smile on his face. I've spent every day with this kid for the past two weeks and it hasn't once gotten old. We head to my kitchen to unbox our food and get plates out to eat it on. We take our food to the living room and get settled in under a blanket and turn on Netflix.
I move closer to Christian as we settle in watching Criminal Minds. We hear a knock at my door and I furrow my brow and get up to see who it is. I look through the peephole and see my ex, Liam, standing at the door waiting for me to let him in. "Shit," I whisper hoping neither Christian nor Liam hears me.
"Brooklyn, I know you're in there. Your car is in your normal spot. Just let me in."
I roll my eyes and open my door a little so he can see me. "What do you want?"
"Oh, sassy Brooklyn is back. I always enjoyed her."
I scoff at him, "Liam what the hell do you want? I'm busy."
"What you got company or something? Can I come in?" he asked trying to get through the door but I close it more.
"No, you can't come in. Like I said I'm busy. What do you want?
I hear Christian get up and dear God do I hope he doesn't come to the door. "Who else is here?" Liam asks, putting his hand on the door trying to open it more. "It's none of your business, please leave. We broke up for a reason." I said those words and it's like this darkness just turned in his eyes.
"No, we broke up because you left me while I went to Florida. You really hurt me by doing that."
"I hurt you? Now, did you think about why I left? I left for my own mental and emotional sake. Don't you get that? You fucked me up in the head. For the love of God leave me alone. Do not come back to my apartment ever again." I shut my door and quickly lock it before he can try and open it. He pounds on my door and I jump every time.
I walk back to the living room with tears forming in my eyes. I try not to let them slip as I walk past Christian into the kitchen to grab a water. "Brooklyn, can I ask what that was about?" Christian quietly asked as I was standing at my sink, calming down and just breathing.
"I'm fine, Christian."
"You are? Who was that?"
"Oh, uh, it was my ex, Liam," I say wiping my eyes not trying to cry anymore. I can tell by the look on Christian's face he is worried and doesn't really know what to say or do. He opens his arms up and I smile and walk toward him and hug him back. He wraps his arms around my head and I wrap mine around his lower torso. I feel him kiss the top of my head and I smile.
We let go of each other and he gently grabs my face, wipes my tears, and brings me in for a kiss. "How about we head to bed? I can tell you're tired." I nod and let out a breath through my nose. "Yeah, let me clean up really quick."
We head to my room and I get under the covers and watch as Christian also gets in as well. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me closer to him. He kisses my forehead and I quickly fall asleep in his arms. Yeah, I could get used to this.
I wake up to small, gentle kisses on my shoulder heading up my body. I smile and turn over to face Christian, "Good morning," he rasps. God damn is that sexy. I smile and snuggle closer to him, "Morning." We had a late game tonight so we could sleep in all we wanted until we had to leave.
Christian and I rode together in his car to Miller Park because I was spending the night at his house. He told me that way Liam won't bother us and we can do whatever we wanted. I left all but my work bag in his car and headed to my office.
I walked into the trainer's room and saw a few guys sitting on the beds. I went over to Ryan and asked what he needed. "Oh, can you tape my lower back? It's been tight the past few days," he asks and I nod. Ryan breaks the awkward silence, "So, what's going on with you and Yeli?" I look up at him, smile, and shake my head.
"Why do you want to know?" I ask as he puts his shirt down and I stand off to the side of him.
"Well, one, because I saw you guys riding together today. Two, none of us are blind and we all saw you go out during our last road trip," I start to blush and smile, but push that smile off of my face. "Three, I can tell he really likes you, and you really like him. Oh, and four, he's like my little brother so don't think I don't know about you." I had him a bag of ice for his back and shake my head. Ryan became like my older brother in a way too. He just has this fatherly figure to him, obviously from his kids, but I can tell he likes to protect anyone he works with that is younger than him.
"Are you going to make me tell you?" He nods at me. "Fine, come here." We head into my office and I close the door. "What do you want to know?" He smiles at me and thinks about it for a bit. "Well, I'm assuming you guys have kissed because he came into the clubhouse tonight happier than happy," I laugh and nod towards him.
"I don't know, he's just different from anyone who I've 'been' with. I'm not saying we're dating, but he's just a good guy and I can tell that he really cares for me."
"He does care for you, I promise." I smile at him before heading to the door as someone was knocking. I open it and there stands Christian and he smiles at me before looking behind me and giving Ryan a weird, confused face.
"Oh, speak of the devil," Ryan says quietly before leaving my office and I shake my head toward him as he leaves.
"What was that about? He seems suspicious," I laugh and head out of my office back into the trainer's room. "He's very curious that's all."
He sits on one of the beds and awaits my attention. I turn toward him as I can feel him staring at me, "Do you need tape or ice?" I question him as I walk towards another player handing them a bag of ice. "Oh, uh ice, my back has been bothering me for a little bit." I nod and head to get a small bag of ice. "Where has it been bothering you? Does Couns know?"
"Yeah he knows, but uh like my lower right side, and then sometimes it works its way toward the middle of my back." I nod and put my hand on his jersey hoping to see if even just touching it would hurt him. He scrunched his face up more as I kept adding pressure to his back. "Christian, please take it easy tonight. We don't need you hurt. Seriously come out of the game if you are in any pain."
"I will," he gets closer to my ear and whispers, "But how am I supposed to make you proud from the dugout?" He backs away and looks into my eyes.
"I'll see you out there Brooklyn," he says as he winks and walks away back to the field.
