You're Okay.

Brooklyn~

I lean up against Christian as we sat out on our outside couch on the deck enjoying the sunset while our not-so-little 8-month-old plays with some toys in the playpen. I look out toward the lake and start to reminisce when it was just Christian and me. I wouldn't trade this for the world, but it's just crazy how time flies.

"Do you ever like catch yourself thinking about how we ended up here?" I ask Christian quietly as we enjoy the beautiful weather we were blessed with after our early game.

"Where'd that come from?"

"I don't know. I just sometimes catch myself thinking like how did I end up here? Obviously, it's never bad, I just think about it once in a while."

"Were you just thinking about it?"

"Yeah, but it's more like when I graduated, I didn't even think in a matter of weeks I would've met my favorite person and then later have it turn into a relationship. It's just so surreal in a sense that I didn't think I'd be here in this position fast-forward five years."

"I'm glad we're here. I might not think about it often, but I didn't ever expect to be married and have a kid by the time I'm 32. That was nowhere near my radar. Even if it's not a person who controls this love thing, I'm damn sure they knew what they were doing by putting us together."

He starts rubbing up and down my side as my hand rests on his leg, "Damn right, they did."

Kayden starts to stand up in his playpen and gets my attention. Christian takes notice and lets me get up to go get him. I bring Kayden back to us as he just smiles just like his daddy. He holds onto my fingers as he bounces around on my lap. "He's getting so big," Christian says quietly as he watches us.

"I know. I don't like it." Kayden settles down in between Christian and me. "Four more months and he'll be one."

"Ugh, don't remind me," I say and he laughs, "I'm serious. It's crazy to think he was just this little pebble growing in me and then poof, he's here and just changing and growing each day."

"This time last year, we were watching him kicking in your belly."

"Yeah, and dealing with my insane emotions."

He chuckles and holds me closer to him, "I'd do it all again though."

"No doubt, just wow."

"It wasn't that bad."

I scoff, "Right," I say sarcastically.

"I'm serious. I mean it's not like it was going to go away overnight."

"I know, but sometimes I'll look through like pictures from last year and I'm just crying for no reason."

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me." I look down between us and see Kayden is passed out. Kid can fall asleep anywhere and I'm pretty sure I had that gift.

"I'm gonna go put him down," I say motioning down at Kayden to show Christian he's sleeping.

"No, I got him. You can relax."

"Okay." I lean back into the couch as Christian carefully grabs him, trying not to wake Kayden. I move my legs up to the couch and get comfy, waiting for Christian to come back. Jordan left about six weeks ago and it just hasn't been the same in the Athletic Training department. Sarah and I are trying to make the most of it, but we three were like a little family and we created that bond for a few years. Plus, they have no intentions of hiring someone new which I can see both sides to the possibility. I think hiring someone new would help with the workload, but now we're just adding another body to the already cramped workspace.
