Brooklyn~
I sat in one of the rolling chairs, waiting for Christian to come and see me. It's our last game of Spring Training, and honestly, I'm a little sad. This weather is incredible and we have to go back to cold Wisconsin. I looked around at the very small trainer's room and noticed how bare it looked. I wish we were here for longer. Spring Training is just so fun because you see all the guys. New prospects, new players, old players.
"Hey, I gotta get out there. I lost track of time and forgot I needed to come down here," Christian says in a hurry and sitting down on the bed. "Are you starting?" I asked him standing up from my seat.
"Yeah, but only for two or three at-bats." I nod and focus on what I'm doing. It's almost too quiet in here like I need something to keep me sane and awake. I yawn and finish what I'm doing, "You're good to go." I move to the side so he can hop down off the bed but instead, he pulls me back in front of him and softly smiles. He brushes a piece of hair, that was in my face, off to the side, "Tired?" he questions and I nod.
"Just think, tomorrow morning we can sleep in since our flight doesn't leave until 2." I smile and nod, "Okay," I smile, "Go hit some baseballs for me."
He gets down and starts to make his way out but turns around, "Oh, I almost forgot, did Stearns ever come and find you? He said he was looking for you."
"No, haven't seen him."
"Oh, well, he's looking for you," he walks back over to me, "Can't believe I forgot this," he says quickly and leans down to kiss me. I knew what he was forgetting, but I wanted to see how long it would've taken him. We break away, "Can't believe you forgot," I tease him and he smiles but starts to back away as we both know he has to get going.
"That's a good way to end Spring Training," I say to Christian as we walk into the apartment. He follows close behind me and I go straight to the kitchen to start dinner. "I'm just excited to start the regular season now."
"Me too," I say and look over at him and smile. "What did Stearns want?"
"Oh, I'm being invited to some athletic trainer's convention in a couple of weeks."
"Are you going?"
I shrug, "I don't know. It's in the middle of the week, in Philadelphia, and I haven't looked at the schedule yet to know if we'll be in Milwaukee or on the road."
"Why wouldn't you go?"
"What are you trying to get me out of the house," I laugh and tease him, "But in all seriousness, it'd be really cool, I just need to look at the schedule and then compare it to my schedule."
He takes his phone from his pocket, "When is it?"
"I would leave the 11th and get back that Saturday. The convention starts on the 12th and goes onto the 13th, and 14th. I'd fly back Saturday."
"Well, it looks like we will be in Milwaukee from the 9th to the 18th. So, you wouldn't have to fly to or from some random city."
"I think you're just trying to get me out of the house," I say and we both laugh. "Babe, you've told me how bad you've wanted to go, it just never worked out. Now, you're being invited, and you're thinking about turning this down? Do you know who else is going to be there?"
"From what David told me, four other trainers from across the league, trainers in the NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA, Olympic trainers, collegiate, and high school athletic trainers should all be going."
"You're not turning this down," I scoff and grab a glass to fill with water, "You're going. I've decided," he laughs and so do I as walk over to him as he sits in one of the tall chairs at the breakfast bar.
