Brooklyn~
Game 7, Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
We have gone back and forth with the Yankees throughout the entire series. Tonight is the night we can change the history of the Milwaukee Brewers franchise. They were good, there was no doubt about that. But for us, Brewer fans and the team, in general, felt like we were on top of the world. The three times we won prior to Game 7, we have outscored the Yankees by 5+ runs. When we lost, it was only by 1 run. We can beat them.
The nervousness that ran through everyone was the same; we felt like we wanted to puke, at least I did. Miller Park was eerie. Sure, they were hyped, I mean who wouldn't be, but this is where they change the history of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Once you stepped out of the clubhouse and into the dugout you saw each and every one of the player's worries went away.
A sold-out Game 7 at Miller Park is something to be seen. Standing room only, the smell of beer and brats floats around the air. Towels waved above heads, chanting, and yelling being heard from all around the stadium.
"Isn't it amazing?" Christian says coming up behind me and stands next to me. "Yeah, but there was no doubt that they wouldn't show up like this," I say looking around the stadium.
"You ready for this?"
"Born ready, baby," he says and I chuckle heading down the stairs to sit on the bench. "You got this," I say before he gives me a gentle kiss. "Thanks for the luck." I watch him run out to left field with Lorenzo and Ryan before splitting off and go to their respective positions.
"Let's do this boys!" I hear from Lo in center field, as our ace, Brandon Woodruff gets ready for the first pitch. I intently watch Christian as he makes an amazing play, stealing a home run.
Christian quite possibly is having the best game of his life. He's been 3-3 so far with two home runs and a double. I know he is feeding off of the energy that is present in the stadium. He comes back after his last home run and sits by me by doesn't say anything. We were currently up 7-2 and it's the bottom of the seventh. "It's really gonna happen, isn't it?" he says quietly.
"Yeah, I really think it is," I say grabbing his hand. "Look at everyone in the stadium, Christian. They're cheering for you and the team. They believe in you just as much as I do."
"I love you," he says quietly so only I could hear it. I smile and look at our hands, "I love you, too."
Christian continued to have an amazing night, ending his last at-bat with another double. It was like the Yankees' pitching gave up. Devin Williams, our best reliever, delivers two strikeouts. 1 more out and they did it. "Holy shit, 0-2 already," I say to Scott. Williams throws his nasty changeup and it blows right past the batter. Oh. My. God. Chrisitan throws his glove and hat in the air and runs toward the middle of the field.
"Brooklyn, let's go out there," Scott says to me as he walks up the stairs.
I immediately find Christian as I have tears streaming down my face, "You did it," I say before pushing our faces together and try to take in as much as possible.
"Couldn't have done it without you."
T-shirts and ball caps are being passed around as the guys pose for a picture. David Stearns asks all of us side staff to get in as well. Soon the award ceremony starts for the World Series Trophy and of course, World Series MVP. Not to be that girlfriend, but if Christian doesn't win, there's something wrong.
Christian stands next to me as he has his mom on the other side of him as well as his brothers. Tears stream down her face in pure excitement and extremely proud of who Christian has become, and not just an amazing baseball player.
