Kai had taken place in the bathroom right after she finished in it, attempting to drag her back in with him. Bonnie swatted him away, throwing a couple of threats his way before she shut the door for him. She dressed in one of the exquisite dresses in the armoire, her eyes snagging at the burgundy silk dress that hugged her body like a glove. Kai hadn't specified how fancy it was going to be so to dim the expense, she threw on a casual jacket, for the night cold as well. Bonnie brushed her hair and smiled in the mirror. All is good, she thought. Hayley was finally safe, the Mikaelson's had accepted one of their own home. Now, all she had to do was stick with Hayley a little while longer, to make sure the mother was adjusting just fine to the hostile environment before she could turn her complete attention to Kai.
At the thought of the wolf, Bonnie opened the door and stepped into the hallways. She was sure Hayley's bedroom was right around the corner--
"Good evening, Bonnie," Klaus greeted with a coy smirk. He stood poised, with his hands folded at his back, in the dimly lit halls like he had been waiting for her.
Bonnie slowed her footsteps and took a deep assuring breath. "Klaus." She still couldn't get over the look of pain and hurt Caroline had let slip-free upon hearing how Klaus had gotten Hayley pregnant. There was always a line when it came to situations like this so Bonnie didn't bother to smile.
Klaus glanced her up and down, taking in her attire. "I assure you that if you plan to take Marcel's goons down with that, you'd find good luck. He's always had an eye for young, powerful pretty things," he mused.
Bonnie sighed, shaking her head. "As far as I know, Marcel is your problem. I have no association left with him unless he decides to come for Hayley again. Then I won't hesitate to tear his face and give it Kai to frame up on the wall. But for now, I'm going to enjoy the peacefulness of this city before you destroy it."
"You are wicked. You'd be a great addition to my empire." Klaus slowly approached her in a brooding manner.
Bonnie took a step back, chuckling to herself. Of course, he was already trying to recruit her. "No. Unlike the rest of you, I have a life. One that I finally want to live out without having to suffocate under supernatural issues that don't involve me. So no, you can't use me as a weapon. I am only here because of Hayley, nothing else. Once the baby is out and safe, I'm out of New Orleans. Until then, I'll keep my distances."
"Oh, come now, Bonnie," his grin was devilish, sinful to the very core. "You're not one to leave the doused fire, not as the war has just begun. You love the thrill of trouble, the pump of energy that follows you around when you look into the eye of your enemy and make them bleed."
Bonnie was taken aback. "What makes you think you know me?"
Klaus circled her, a wolf cornering a sheep. "I've met my fair share of Bennett witches in my time. They've proven to be quite...determined."
"I'm different," Bonnie stated, swallowing hard. She knew she was. Her magic literally regenerated itself, it protected her.
"That, you are." Klaus finally stopped his circling and stood still in front of her once more. "Which is why I strongly advise that you do not go sullying and dancing in the city."
Bonnie crossed her arms, genuinely amused. "Really? I wasn't aware that you were suddenly my keeper."
Klaus didn't seem to share that humour. "You do not know Marcel as I do. He might be busy right now, with his vampire issue, courtesy of your boy toy, but he most certainly can multitask. He'll see you as an opportunity to reach for Hayley and after my recent acceptance of that...child, we're not risking having you vulnerable in his domain."
Bonnie's mouth twitched and she curled her fingers, eyes unfaltering. Klaus winced, grunting slightly as a bead of sweat trickled down his face. He began to cough, bringing a hand to his mouth to reveal blood at his finger. He snarled, eyes already flecked gold. Bonnie smiled, giving him a coy smirk in return. "Vulnerable?" She let him go and scoffed, not bothering to give him a chance to respond when she continued down the halls.
Eventually, she found Hayley's room, nearly on the other side of the house. The wolf was silent in the room, staring out into the fresh, crisp night. The window was cracked open and Hayley seemed to gaze at the twinkling stars. The wolf was completely aware of Bonnie's appearance but didn't utter a thing. Not for a while.
The silence broke, Hayley's soft voice entwining into the night chill. "Remember that story? The one that has this beautiful princess who was taken away from her family and locked in this massive tower? I watched that movie and never understood why she wanted to leave. The tower had everything, a warm bed, comfort, love, all the things I didn't get as I grew up. But now I realize why she wanted to leave. I understand because I'm in that situation right now."
Bonnie sighed, already suspecting where she was trying to navigate the conversation. "Hayley--"
"I lost my family," she interrupted, her hazel eyes piercing Bonnie's. "I was young so I barely remember it all. All that comes to mind is...just a hole. I remember feeling elevated, complete, protected and then nothing. When I went to Bayou, it was like meeting a family I never knew. I belonged there. I wasn't a wolf, I wasn't a pregnant baby who was carrying a cursed child, I was just...Hayley Marshall."
"You know it's too dangerous to go back there. Marcel probably has vampires monitoring the place in case you get ideas."
"Please, Bonnie." She rose from her seat and stood before her. "Please, I just want to see them. Once a week, that's all I ask. This baby is going to be part werewolf, it needs to feel the comfort of its people. Of my people." Hayley grabbed her hands, squeezing them as she pleaded.
Bonnie thought about it for a second, sighing after a beat. "Supervised meetings, okay? Once every two weeks. Kai will take care of any of the vampires and who knows, Elijah might let you bring a few here to keep you company."
Hayley beamed, pulling the witch into a grateful hug. "Oh my god, thank you."
Bonnie pulled back, "We'll discuss the details later when I come back. But stay here until then."
"Where are you going?"
Bonnie reached for the doorknob and felt herself smile as she answered, "To spend the night with someone who makes me feel elevated, complete and protected."

"Let me guess. I answer right, I get a pork rind. Wrong, I get a poker."
