Bonnie opened the door, stepping back when Damon barged in. "Where is he?"
"Where's who?" Bonnie asked as she shut the door behind him with confusion.
"Your latest sleeping buddy that is somehow more important than Elena dying again and the rest of us?" Damon demanding, swivelling around to her with question in his eyes. "Is it mini Gilbert? You're tapping the little brother again?"
Bonnie gripped her arms, hugging herself as her eyes wandered back to Enzo's previous position. "Uh, no. Jeremy and I were a thing a long time ago. I don't think we'll both get over the fact that he chose a ghost over me."
Damon clicked his tongue. "Poor judgment on his part," he snapped his fingers. "Let's get going."
Bonnie extended her neck. "You force yourself into my house when I clearly want alone time just so I can pack my bags and follow you?" Her eyes glanced back from the door and then back to him, scoffing. "It doesn't work like that."
Damon's eyes widened, speaking with his hands as he said, "What do you mean? It's Elena we're talking about. Do you need some sense slapped into you? Because from experience, those wake you up," he rose his hand she shimmied back.
Bonnie sighed. "I...I'm not ready. I'm not prepared to go back into a place that will keep taking things that are important to me. People I care for, my magic."
Damon snapped. "Newsflash, BonBon. Nobody cares. We need you, just like we always need you."
Bonnie was taken aback by this and she was starting to get pissed off. "So you can decide to use me at your leisure? I can't take a day off from carrying the whole town? For protecting you guys by sacrificing my pleasure, my life?"
Damon sighed, shaking his head. "You know I don't mean it like that. Elena's dying for godsakes, now is not the time to take a power nap and prepare for New Years."
"You have Valerie, it doesn't take two witches to figure out how to keep someone alive," she didn't know where the witty remarks were coming from but she suspected it was from reacting for what he was saying behind his words. We don't care about you, just help us first.
"She left last night. She said something about wanting to explore the world, the supernatural discovery. I never pegged her to be some sort of historian but I know where to go when things go sideways again."
Bonnie sighed, grabbing her phone on the counter. "Let's go." Damon lingered, staring judgementally at the candles, the burned paper and blood, but he caught up eventually.
The ride up to the mansion was very familiar to Bonnie and she wondered how many times she's had to speed there to save someone. When she closed the door, there was a sudden sight that she finally saw things the way she didn't see before. She wanted to be done with this, done with Mystic Falls. Bonnie never understood how nobody had figured it out yet. It was a toxic town and Bonnie hoped leaving would be the cure.
The door opened with a flick of her wrist and Damon whistled lowly. They walked into the living room, Elena sitting with a blanket over her lap and a blood bag at her lips. She stopped when Bonnie stepped up. "Bonnie," she croaked. Her voice sounded better than last time. The recovery from the ritual was finally working. Bonnie wondered if the nightmares for the twins were still getting worse.
"Hi," Bonnie waved, taking in the others. Caroline was sitting next to her, hands clasped together while Stefan shadowed nearby. Ric was standing, arms crossed and Bonnie assumed Jo was handling the twins at home. "So we're doing this?"
"Of course we're doing this," Caroline scoffed. "There is no other option."
Bonnie ignored the attitude and turned to Ric. "I need to know what is exactly happening in the girl's nightmares, how extreme it is and getting."
Ric nodded, the two of them linking up to discuss. A while passed by and Bonnie began to notice that after 30 minutes, give or take, someone would leave the room and then return, only to swap out with someone else. Ric leaned in, explaining. "Rotation on watching out for Kai."
She nodded as Damon left the room, Matt returning.
Elena cleared her throat. "I don't want you guys to worry so much about this. I've already accepted the outcome."
"But if there's a chance, we need to explore it. Now that we have Bonnie, I think we have a chance," Stefan said.
"But we've lost Valerie--" Ric said.
"You're not listening to me. Now that I have a bit more time, why don't we focus on the happy things? Ric, you're getting married soon, right?" Elena addressed, trying to liven the mood.
Ric shrugged. "Jo set the date."
"When?" Stefan asked.
"In two days."
Everyone's, including Bonnie's, eyes bulged, replaying the information in their minds.
"Two days? What are you doing here? Are your vows ready? Can I see? I can't believe I'll be around for the wedding," Elena gushed, smiling brightly.
"And Jo? Is she finished with the preparations? Do you think it's suitable for her to be focusing on the kids right now instead of the finishing details? Because this only happens once. I mean, unless something bad happens. Not that I think you guys won't last but everything needs to be perfect," Caroline gasped, bombarding with questions.
Ric shook his head, chuckling as he scratched his head. "The girls are throwing more tantrums than usual but I think that's normal. Something happened on Christmas when her father took the kids but she won't tell me. All of a sudden, she's watching them more than necessary."
They all spoke, asking things about the venue, the clothes, the food and Bonnie couldn't keep up. Stefan was silent as well, choosing to stay out of the conversation as Bonnie did. Everyone was so focused on the event that they didn't notice Damon emerge. Only...it wasn't just him.
Kai appeared behind Damon, massaging his bruising wrists with a grin. "Did I hear cake? Because velvet is the best," he addressed the room and Bonnie felt the world crash down on her. Only, she couldn't tell if it was a good thing or not.
