always and forever

Klaus waltzed into the room, with the means to find his brother who was staring out the window. Elijah was always one to be in his thoughts, the patient one. Klaus narrowed his eyes, standing beside him and spotted Hayley, the wolf, walking through the courtyard. She was picking berries along the way, slipping them into her mouth like nobody was looking. Both males watched her glance up at the moon with longing, clear sorrow on her face.

Klaus cleared his throat and turned to Elijah. "What exactly was your bargain with Marcel? You and I both know he has the means to use the unborn Mikaelson but I never pegged you as one to sell a child, Elijah."

He didn't respond immediately, cocking his head to the side as Hayley sat in the field, running her hands through the grass. "We were meant to hunt the child together, both our causes similar. It was his goal to let the witches do their fair share of business with it before I could claim the baby once more. I saw an opportunity to work beside Marcel and satisfy both our wants in one go."

Klaus's eyes crinkled in laughter, chest trembling slightly. "Did you honestly believe that once the witches see a weapon, a threat against them, they'll return it into the fishbowl of sharks with a little bow on top? That child is bred from a hybrid and is due to have ties to our mother, the Original Witch. It wasn't meant to be here and the witches are law enforcement for loopholes."

Elijah's eyes twitched, his only indication of how terrible the situation would have turned if he had given the child to Marcel. He straightened, not allowing himself to paint Marcel as a monster in this chapter. "Marcel would never let harm go against the baby. Not only would I find him and string up his insides at a candy store, but he is also strictly against child abuse of any form."

Klaus's smile lingered. "Whoever said Marcel knew of the witches' plot to rid the baby of this world? Through our centuries of fighting against them, we are aware that they're a force to be reckoned with. They are completely capable of completing a mission without getting caught, right under Marcel's nose. And with the Mikaelson's, the most powerful beings, back in town to threaten his position, he's too distracted to focus on his allies."

Elijah's arm jerked out, gripping the frame of the window. "Bonnie's vision, she's warned us about the witches." He sighed deeply, adjusting his suit. "Hayley is already distressed enough as it is, this won't fare well with the wellness of the child. We need to give her a sense of protection."

"Were you not in the room earlier? She does not want our company. Least of all, she wants to roll in the mud with those mutts at the Bayou," Klaus snarled in disgust.

"Lest you not forget, Niklaus, that you are part of those mutts. And your child will be part of those mutts so watch your tongue," Elijah turned to him with a warning. His tone was solemn, entwining in darkness.

Klaus only giggled, "Oh, brother. Please do not tell me that you see the mother of my child as a keychain in your pocket. She's a werewolf, she does not need a man to protect her like she's weak."

Elijah fought the urge to roll his eyes and stepped into the center of the room. "At least you've claimed the child as your own now." Elijah picked up a newspaper, reading casually. "But I agree with your antics, New Orleans was--is our home. We belong in the French Quarter as much as the next person. We can finally rebuild what our parents took away from us. A family, a home. We're not going to sit around, we're not going to hide any longer. Marcel is coming for us, he's coming for the child." That devilish smirk was as terrifying as Klaus's. "And it's about time he learns the true meaning of always and forever."

Hayley remained outside, ignoring the cold biting her skin. Once Bonnie left her room, she decided to step outside to take a look out into the moon. She was always drawn to it, her wolf howling from within. Her supernatural senses sharpened at the sound of rustling and Hayley's nose flared. Vampire.

She wasn't shocked to find Elijah standing silently, hands in pockets. He seemed to be regarding the moon in question, wondering why the wolf was so attracted to it. In the emptiness of the night, he muttered, "War is coming."

Hayley scoffed, closing her eyes as she felt the power of the moon radiate off her face. "War has been here for a long time. Between the vampires and the wolves, between the witches and the vampires, between Klaus and everybody."

Elijah broke his gaze with the fractured white orb in the sky to look at her face. "I hope you're aware that the Mikaelson name doesn't just apply to the child. It extends to you as well."

Hayley snorted. "What makes you think that I want to be a Mikaelson? I've heard the stories, I've seen the horrors. If anything, I don't want my child to grow anywhere near you sociopaths." She caressed her stomach. "But I want it to grow to know its parents, something I never got the luxury of." Silence drowned the yard, the air getting colder. Hayley rose to her feet, cleaning her hands and fully faced him. "So what is the plan?"

Elijah cracked a genuine grin. "We start with the vampires."

As he relayed the plan Klaus had orchestrated, Hayley found herself silent. It was gruesome and horrid but as he said, it was war. Later that night, the two brothers went out into the city to capture some vampires for some intel on this weapon Marcel had hidden in the shadows. And to find a way to orchestrate the perfect strategy to get on the throne once more. Hayley was too tired to join the discrete hunt. But with the 4 powerful beings, the two dominant witches and the Originals, out of the property, this left the little wolf at home. Alone. Defenseless.

"The useless one is here. Thank God. I've watched you try to do magic for months now. What are you gonna do, fail at me? It's embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for you."
