Bonnie turned to Caroline, "I got this."
Caroline hesitated, wondering if she was prepared for this side of Damon. Instead, she sighed, flitting away.
Bonnie dropped her head and nodded to herself. "So this is what you do? Drink yourself to a drunken stupor, unleash terrible beasts into the world Elena fought so hard for?"
Damon growled, smashing the bottle onto the ground. "Elena fought for a world that turned its back on her. Elena fought for a world where vampires suck humans dry and contemplate killing when they are feeling good. Elena fought for a world where these supernatural took everyone she cared for, her parents, her aunt, her uncle. She fought for a world that snipped her head off." He stressed out, his voice rising at every word.
Bonnie didn't back down, pointing at his face. "She also fought for a world where she wanted her brother to be happy. Where she wanted her best friends to finish high school like normal teenagers, to prove to others that we aren't all hopeless because she could change you. So don't come in here, acting as though this reckless behavior is all for her because you're Damon freaking Salvatore. You will find an excuse to make yourself feel better, even if it results in harming those you care about. That's why you're here."
"I cared for Elena and she is gone. She is the only reason why I tolerated you and all the other idiots," he seethed.
Bonnie recoiled back, laughing coldly to herself even though nothing was humorous. "Is that what you say to me when you ditch me after I lost Elena and Enzo? Is that how you really feel after I sustained the pain you left behind?"
Damon jerked his head to the ceiling, later staring into her eyes. "You don't understand, BonBon. I'm human. I'm weak and to make things worse, I'm freaking Matt Donavon 2.0. Any right person in their mind will hear my name and try to kick my ass. And they will succeed."
"So...you want to let Sybil kill you and everyone because you're...what? Afraid of becoming lesser than you are?" She scoffed, shaking her head. "You've officially lost it. If only Elena knew your true colors. Selfish, reckless, ruthless, thoughtless Damon Salvatore. That is the reason why people will kick your ass when they hear your name. And I hope you die remembering that."
Damon was speechless, Bonnie picking up on her rant.
"Or you can be the Damon Salvatore who survived the worse, the betrayal of family, the terrors of becoming a vampire, the falling for his brother's girl, the loss of the love of his life. And the biggest of all...being human. You can be the man Elena thought of when she died, the man she felt safe with," Bonnie said, swallowing as her voice soothed out. Her words were swaying him because he was still silent. "You can stop this, you can become better again, Damon."
Damon's nose flared, his eyes flickering around the room. "I can't. Not without Elena."
"Because of Elena." She took a slow step towards him, a small smile creeping on her lips.
Damon swallowed, his adam's apple bobbing. "Bonnie--"
She touched his shoulder, pulling him into a warm embrace. "You can become better again." It was still for a moment, Damon awkwardly returning the hug, the alcohol still hanging from his breath.
It was all interrupted by a clipped clap, the familiar chuckle behind Bonnie. The two broke apart, slowly turning to see Kai. "I hope I am not interrupting anything."
Damon snarled, eyes livid as ever as he registered who was speaking. "You--" He charged for him.
"Ah, ah." Kai held a finger up, halting him. "Come at me and you'll never find Elena's decayed body."
Bonnie inclined her head at that, shaking it slightly. "What are you talking about?"
"Remember the spell I cast on our first official date? The one I said you'll never find out about? I actually hid the body. I don't know about you guys but holding onto a dead body is kinda creepy. Humans." Kai shook his head in disbelief.
Damon growled, glancing at Bonnie. "Date?" Bonnie shook her head as if to say It's all in his head. "Don't you think that after all you've done, the least you could do is leave us alone? Bonnie wants nothing to do with you."
"And you've gathered this all under 15 seconds? I spent 3 days with Bonnie and her cult, taking in information on how you guys care about each other so much. But I figured it out. No matter how many times you guys come back for each other, there is always a problem, an enemy. And today..." Kai walked past them, towards the vault. "I figured out what my role is."
Damon narrowed his eyes. "And what is that?"
"I'm the bad guy, duh." Kai snorted and placed his hands on the door. "And it is my job to make sure that I cause the problems so that you become the heroes and save each other over and over again. It's kind of fun, if I do say so myself."
"What the hell are you doing?" Bonnie demanded as the door to the vault pulsated red under his fingertips.
"Now that Damon is back in your life, after you forgave him for what he did to you, I need to compromise."
"What do mean, after what I did to her? You killed the love of her life!" Damon drawled.
Kai chuckled. "Funny thing is, BonBon will come around. I know she will."
"You still haven't answered my question," Bonnie stated.
Kai sighed. "There are perks to siphoning, I might even say it's better than ordinary magic. I can take whatever amount of magic I like, big or small. I can also nullify certain things, taking every single drop of magical presence from it."
"Kai," Bonnie warned, taking a closer step towards him only to be pushed back by a barrier spell he put around himself. "Kai." She bared her teeth.
"Everything will be alright, BonBon. I'll get you out of here before she wakes up," Kai said as the red glowing stopped. He pulled away, the keypad bouncing from red to green frantically.
"What's happening, Bonnie? What did he do?" Damon asked.
"Run, Damon," Bonnie hissed as the vault clicked. Kai grabbed the wheel and pulled it open. That grin was masking his face. Damon was frozen as they all stared at the dark open entrance.
Kai turned and grabbed Bonnie, waving at Damon. "Seeya later alligator. Do say hi to the goddess for me." With that, Kai murmured, "Invisível."
Bonnie felt him tug her with wicked speed until they were outside and Bonnie screamed through it all. The crisp air hit her skin and Kai pulled her in front of him. "Shhh, it's okay."
Bonnie tried to shrug out his grasp and her eyes were watery. "Kai, please." She let the tears fall, her voice breaking. "After all you did, after Elena and Enzo, I just got him back. I won't survive."
Kai hushed her, wiping the tears away and caressing her hair. "Don't be ridiculous, you're strong. You'll get over this. Damon is the root of your problem, I thought you'd know this after all the pain he caused."
"Please," Bonnie pleaded, staring into his green dark eyes.
Kai sighed, dropping his hands to the side. "I'm truly sorry, BonBon. I promise I won't kill anyone after this. Now seriously, stop that, princesses don't cry."
