Bonnie sat in the middle of the salt circle, her palm leaking with blood. The twins sat on either side of her and Kai was setting the candles at five points of the circle. Sybil sat in a chair, legs crossed and waiting. "What's taking so long?"

Kai set the last candle and rose. "The spell takes a lot. BonBon needs to get into Stefan's head and wake him from his subconsciousness. The twins are to help her connect with Stefan," Kai sighed and stood by Sybil, watching Bonnie as well. "Personally, I'm hurt that you didn't let me go in."

"Oh, you are," Bonnie muttered, her eyes still closed. "We are going to play a scene. When Stefan sees me, he'll be happy and ask me for all the details on life outside. Before he figures that things have gone wrong, you will play the typical Kai Parker title and do the villain part. He will trust me and when he sees you kill me, it will pull him awake."

"Right, right," Kai shrugged, smacking his lips together. "But I'm not actually going to kill you, right?"

Bonnie pushed herself from the ground, the girls rising as well. Lizzie and Josie had two objects in their hands and held them out for her. "No. I will only remain dead for 3 exact minutes. For me to come back, you need to connect this together." She tossed the fracture ancient watch to him.

Josie mumbled, "Can we see mommy and daddy now?"

Bonnie smiled and bent low. "Not yet, you pretty little doves. You see that woman over there?" She pointed to Sybil who stirred in her seat. Lizzie nodded. "She lost her best friend. Kai and I are trying to find her but we also need your help. Don't leave the circle otherwise Kai and I won't be able to come back, okay?"

Josie smiled, jumping around. "I have a best friend, her name is Emily. I would be really sad if I lost her."

Sybil rose, a canine smile along her lips. "Then you can imagine my type of pain."

"What about me, Josie? I'm your best friend," Lizzie complained, pouting and tugging on her sister's dress.

"Aw, aren't they cute?" Kai said as he stepped into the circle. He held his hands out for Bonnie and she took it. "Mens spirituum vocatio."

Bonnie repeated it, the light in the room flickering. Sybil glanced around curiously. Eventually, Kai and Bonnie opened their eyes, standing above a hill. Next to them was a tightly closed vault and it was dark outside.

"Where are we?" Kai asked.

"This is when Silas tossed Stefan in the bottom of the lake to take over his identity." She glanced over the deep steep hill, the rocks crumbling. She then examined the clearing that led out into the woods. "Stefan must be around here somewhere. Go."

Kai hesitated, turning to her. "You sure he will trust you?"

"He would never forgive himself if he let one of Elena's friends die." She took a couple of steps towards what she believed was the town when Kai took her hand. Bonnie sighed and let him turn her to him.

"Have you forgiven me for what I did to Damon?"

Bonnie narrowed her eyes, scoffing. "I simply don't care. The only thing I'm concerned about is getting Sybil what she wants."

"What about Elena?" Kai never felt his voice so small. This was Sybil's doing, the tampering she put in his mind to become vulnerable to her. Only, she wasn't around and Bonnie was.

Bonnie felt a ball in her throat but for once, she didn't feel the ache. "Elena is gone. She's been gone ever since her parents died in the car crash, ever since she crossed paths with Stefan in the school washroom. I've had 3 months to get over her."

Kai let out a relieved sigh, holding onto his chest. "I don't know why it felt good hearing that. I like this new you. With that being said, go get our guy."

Bonnie nodded and continued on her way to the town square. When she arrived, she expected it to be isolated. She brushed her fingers across a street bench, singing to herself a Christmas ballad. The season was getting closer and Bonnie wondered what festivities Sybil and Kathrine had for the world.

"Bonnie," his deep voice called from behind her.

Bonnie took a deep breath and turned, smiling. "Stefan!" She held her arms out and embraced him, taking in the musky smell of his coat.

Stefan hugged her back, a smile creeping on her face. "How--how are you?"

Bonnie pulled back, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Doing good. The past 5 months without you have been difficult."

Stefan sighed. "Yeah."

Bonnie examined his face. "Her death is not your fault, Stefan, you couldn't have done anything. You had to stay asleep to--"

"To keep Kathrine at bay, I know. But I missed her funeral, I missed the proper grieving. And don't get me wrong, I don't regret making the choice to sleep forever but...it has its disadvantages. Regardless, how is everything out there?" He rocked on his feet.

"Great. Ric is getting married to Jo, they are preparing the celebrations at this moment," Bonnie smiled.

"Oh, they're getting married--" Stefan was cut off by the upcoming footsteps. He glanced to the side, spotting a figure walking slowly towards them. "Who is..."

Bonnie snarled, grabbing Stefan's arm. "That's Kai."

Stefan sputtered, "How did he follow you in--"

Bonnie began to bolt, leading him to the Mystic grill. "No time to explain. He is here for me and if he gets me...I'm not waking up, Stefan." They burst through the doors, Stefan clearing a way to the boiler room. He knew the tunnels led elsewhere and Kai would never find them.

"Get in," Stefan ordered, holding the door open. He was determined to not let another one of Elena's loved ones die. He had been useless, Stefan believed that this was his moment to prove himself. He shut the door behind him, bringing her deeper into the darkroom.

Suddenly, the lights flickered on and Kai stood there, grinning. "Peeka Boo!"

Stefan growled, the veins under his eyes bulging. His teeth bared sharply and he flitted to Kai, shoving a hand into his chest. Kai's face morphed into pain and he grunted, spurting blood from his mouth. Stefan said one last thing, "For Elena," before he ripped the beating instrument out of Kai's chest swiftly. His heart lay warm in Stefan's hands, not beating.

Stefan glanced at it for a second before he looked back at Kai. Only, it wasn't Kai. Bonnie's face had gone pale and unmoving as she fell to the floor with a thud. Stefan's face contorted with pain and anger, bolting for Bonnie.

"Bonnie!" It took moments for his mind to register what he had done, Kai chuckling behind him. And when he realized it, the world started to pull into a white scene. Stefan felt like he was waking up.

Kai mused to himself and said, "Good morning, Stefan." That was before everything went to pitch black. They went their separate ways, Stefan returned to the coffin he was sleeping in and Kai returning to the circle with the twins.
