As their minds and bodies merged, Bonnie had access to certain parts of the subconsciousness of the black magic. All the plans the black magic had in store for her friends, Bonnie feared how they were going to survive the oncoming storm without her. So as she returned to the black saltwater, she forced herself to stay at the bottom. Bubbles started to erupt and each second brought her closer to the end.
"What's happening now?" Kai got to his feet, peering into the bubbling water.
"This shouldn't be happening--" Mary Louise's brows knitted together.
"She's--" Nora sputtered, eyes widening. "She's drowning." She dove her arm rapidly into the basin, reaching for Bonnie.
Bonnie didn't want to let herself be rescued, this was the best option, this was what needed to be done. She needed to sacrifice herself for the good of the town. So Bonnie pushed herself further down, willing for it be over soon. More arms were reaching for her, yanking up. The moment she emerged from the water, she knew the right side of her wasn't in control any longer.
Kai examined her, water droplets and her soaked dress clinging to her skin. "BonBon?"
Bonnie panted, blinking back the welcoming light of the cave. Her fingers thrummed with magic and she ached to ignite the fire. They all watched closely as she rose, a smile on her lips.
"Did it work?" Caroline asked, arms wrapped around her sides.
To answer the awaiting question, Bonnie raised her hand, unleashing a boom in the cavern. Rocks fell apart even more and Nora struggled to find her footing. Bonnie did it again, turning to Kai and threw him across the room, head colliding against the stone.
Mary Louise prepared herself to fight back but Bonnie had already grabbed a handle full of salt from the incantation, blowing it in her face. The Heretic fell to the floor, completely out.
"Bonnie, stop it," Elena yelled from the entrance, trying once more to enter. She still couldn't get in.
Before Nora could cast her own spell, Bonnie beat her to it, her hand slowly crunching into a fist. Nora gasped, clutching her head painfully. Before she fell, she ordered the two vampires, "Get out before the cave collapses."
They hesitated, watching as Bonnie dealt with the witches fluidly. When she turned to them, Caroline took one step back, struggling to make the decision.
Elena didn't move, still eager to enter. "Bonnie, I know you're in there. Don't do this, you can stop all this. You're strong, you can fight it."
Bonnie stood still, cocking her head to the side in curiosity. "You're Elena Gilbert."
Elena swallowed, not recognizing the smooth voice of her best friend. Caroline tugged at her sleeve, prompting them to leave but Elena still stuck around. "I am."
Bonnie chuckled, circling the room. "You're the last decent of the doppelgängers."
"Elena--" Caroline warned, reaching to pull her away.
Bonnie flicked her wrist, Caroline dropping dead to the floor. Elena gasped, flinching back as Caroline's hair tickled her shins. "Bonnie. Come with us and we'll help you."
"I don't need helping," Bonnie mused, approaching the lip of the cave. "But what I do need is the blood of the one who's carried the same face through centuries, living amongst different beings."
Elena's eyes widened, her legs finally functioning. Being the doppelgänger had its own downfalls, one of which being the fact that people wanted to sacrifice you for some reason. She flitted out, maneuvering through the tunnels to try and leave. Bonnie let her go, fully aware that the bounds she recently placed in the cavern didn't permit vampires to leave.
Kai grunted behind her, raising his arm. The fire appeared in the line of the entrance, preventing Bonnie from crossing out. Kai pulled himself to his feet, wiping his bloody head. "I'm afraid I can't let you leave."
Bonnie slowly turned around, annoyance written on her face. "It's funny how you think you can stop me."
"Well I know I can't stop you but I'm hoping that buys enough time for Stefan and Valerie to come back. Also for Nora and Mary Louise stop dreaming about unicorns." Kai chuckled, feet planted steadily on the ground.
Bonnie jerked her hand, a snap in his body echoing around the cave. His posture failed, Kai yelling at the sudden pinch of pain in his left kneecap. He held a hand to his knee, stifling the urge to shout. Kai tried to stabilize himself on his feet again. "Is that the best you've got?" Kai knew that it was practically prompting her to keep going but it was the best shot he had at stalling.
Bonnie cornered him to the furthest corner of the cave. "You're her newest love interest," she stated.
Kai scrunched his nose. "I wouldn't say 'new'. My story with Bonnie has been written in the stars since--"
"You're pathetic," she snarled, fingers twitching at her side. "No wonder the vampire was the one to bend her." Enzo.
Kai straightened, all humor wiped from his face. "Okay, now you've gone too far. Nobody calls Kai Parker pathetic, I'm iconic. Get that one right, Bad BonBon. And there's no way she already cheated on me with a very dead vampire because last time I checked, his heart stopped pumping in my hand. But it would be very cool if it was still beating under my fingers but then that would be another story."
Bonnie had enough of hearing his voice, mouth starting to mumble. "Necare--"
Kai was much quicker to react, raising his hand. Blood started to trickle down her nose and Bonnie groaned, struggling to maintain her footing. "Yeah, enough of that for the day."
Bonnie panted, gripping her head. Her teeth were now tainted rosemary and she seethed through the torture, "You would never hurt your precious Bonnie."
With all her attention focused on him, Bonnie didn't register the Heretic that rose. Mary Louise shoved a cloth to her mouth, pressing it tightly. Bonnie started to tap her arm, eyes wide and pleading. She had already inhaled the toxin and she fell out her body, sagging against Mary Louise.
Kai sighed, snapping his leg back into its place painfully. "You really took your sweet time."
Mary Louise adjusted Bonnie's weight against hers. "We need to get her locked up. Now."
Nora stirred awake, grunting with a hand to her head. She came to her senses, quickly getting to her feet. Her eyes attached to Mary Louise's and Bonnie's, nodding sternly. "I'll get the nullifying chains and you get her to Valerie and Damon."
Kai took slow steps to Bonnie's unconscious body. He bent down, making sure to place his lips right above her ears. "She is precious to me and you better pray that she comes back safe and healthy."
