angel of death

The blade was mere millimeters from the child's head, seconds upon death. But it never reached because the roaring sound of flesh-tearing echoed in the cemetery, freezing everyone from motion. Clary dropped the knife with her eyes wide, staring at the blue sky, staring at the angel of death.

Hayley didn't hesitate to rip her throat out with a growl, blood leaking down her throat. Her eyes were blonde and below those, veins were crackling. When she pulled away, teeth stained with blood, Clary's body dropped to the ground. Elijah and Klaus stared in shock as the wolf-who-was-dead stood before them with an exhausted sigh.

Just in time, Bonnie ran out into the commotion, panting at the speed. Her dress was torn and her hair jumbled. Her eyes were wide when she spotted the wolf as well, believing that Aithne had granted her this after forcing the Initial Conjuration into her. "The knife," Bonnie screamed. The ancestors and spirit of the harvest girls were linked through the weapon.

Hayley quickly picked it up from the ground. She threw it inside of one of the bowls of fire but the dead spirits were still there, chanting. "Expulser ces démons de notre maison, les punir."

Bonnie knew that it wasn't enough to destroy the weapon so she dove through the crowd, making her way towards the bowl. The brothers protected her from any spells that were sent her way, trying to distract the ancient witches. Bonnie reached the lip of the basin, gripping the sides as she chorused, "Détruisez l'attache, bannissez l'impureté." She was tapping into a new level of her magic, robust and raw.

The flame flickered brightly and widely but eventually. The knife began to melt, the silver entwining with the emerald jewel. The ancestors began to flicker out, their chants dimming.

"Détruisez," Bonnie screamed, silencing their power in one fell swoop. The ancestors were gone. And what remained of the harvest girls were swept away into the wind.

Leaving the empty cemetery, matted in blood and broken cobble.

They all watched as Hayley approached the altar, staring at the crying child. The moment she stepped into her view, the babe stopped yowling. You could hear and see Hayley's tears when she scooped up the child into her arms, rocking it with a small laugh.

Klaus rushed up the steps, approaching the bundle of brightness and joy. None of them seemed worried that they were smearing the child with blood, they were too captivated by her natural beauty and glow. The glow of a Mikaelson, and the radiance of her smile. A smile that was completely unbothered by the destruction around her.

The moment of silence didn't last long, the steady pace of running footsteps echoing around. "Bonnie," someone called. Kai.

She didn't know if she wanted to turn to see him so she remained planted in position. But she could still feel him come closer, eagerly. And before she knew it, he threw his arms around her, embracing her tightly. "I didn't cheat," he declared.

Bonnie would have told him to leave, would have believed that he was still lying but...it was like the truth was finally revealed. Kai wasn't lying. She turned at that, gripping his shirt. Her eyes were crinkling with tears and she buried her head into his shirt. "I didn't cheat either," she said through her broken cries. He only stroked her hair, weathering the storm. Rain, thunder, clouds and all.

In less than a week, the city was in shambles. Witches spread apart, scattering once they felt the power of their ancestors diminish, once they learned that not everything went according to plan. The vampires were hunting them down, block by block, building by building. There weren't any pitchforks or anything but it was as much as a witch hunt as you could tell. The wolves...most mourned their lost ones and others replenished in the birthing of Hayley's child, the one-third wolf. The humans had police departments trying to look into what happened, what caused the sudden shift of commotion but Father Kierran would handle that with a bit of help from the vampires.

And as for the Mikaelson's...Klaus kept his promise about banishing the witches who were from the French Quarter. His order was to kill on sight. Elijah went over plans about protecting the compound to give Hayley freedom to spend with her child. And Rebekah still hadn't returned from her trip.

Bonnie had the Original in mind as she sat at the window sill, holding a warm cup of chocolate milk. She and Kai had eventually gotten their own place downtown, keeping close contact with the royal family above the city. They both agreed that even though they were practically family with the Mikaelson's, it was best to be independent.

Kai cleared his throat, leaning against the frame of the door with a wicked grin. "Did you hear what I just said?"

"Hm?" Bonnie shook her head and adjusted herself, the liquid in the mug jolting. "Yeah, totally."

"So you definitely heard me say that Klaus is releasing Marcel?" He approached her, chuckling slightly under her breath. Kai was completely aware that Bonnie had zoned out. She always did that, always wandered off into nothing. He assumed it was because of what happened last week but he didn't ask. He wasn't sure how sensitive the topic was.

"God, I hope we don't have to go through any more issues," Bonnie rolled her eyes as she stood up. She made her way towards him, setting the hot chocolate down before throwing her arms around him. "You know what I think we should do today? Rest."

Kai shook his head at that. "Um, no. Don't think I forgot that it's your birthday."

Bonnie groaned, pulling away. "You already said happy birthday. Why can't we move on? We don't need to make it more special."

"What is wrong with you?" Kai said with disbelief. "Today is your date of birth, the day fate granted me with your life, the day—"

"You're making it weird. But fine, if you want to do something, I have something in mind. The other day I saw this spa booth that I think we both need."

"Okay, I love you but not that much," Kai stated as he sunk into the grey couch in front of the TV. Bonnie picked up a giraffe plushie and chucked it at his head. "There is no way that I am going to sit in a chair and let some lady massage green paste on my face. Or put cucumbers on my eyelids, that'll just make the torture even worse."

"Yeah because you'd have to resist the urge to eat it," Bonnie laughed, plopping down on the couch with him. She scrolled through the news channels and yet again, the reporters were mentioning missing persons. "I really don't want to do anything."

"Fine, fine. I mean spending today with me already makes the day special enough." Kai interlaced his fingers through her brown-caramel hair, toying with it. "I can order some Chinese...what?" Bonnie was staring deep into his eyes as if she saw something he couldn't. She cupped his cheek with a delicate touch, leaning in before her lips captured his. "Oh," he said against her skin. "Okay."

Bonnie hoisted herself onto his lap, planting her thighs on both sides of his and deepened the kiss. His large arms snaked at her back, pulling her close. Bonnie was like a dove, Kai the cage. The kiss felt releasing and responding at the same time, two kindred souls joining in affection.

Bonnie pulled away ever so slightly, resting their foreheads against each other. "I never want this to end, Kai," she whispers softly against his skin. "No more lies." Even though she hadn't told him about the Initial Conjuration Aithne had passed over to her.

"No more lies," he repeated. Even though he hadn't told her all about the deal he struct with Sophie to learn the Initial Conjuration.
