better places to be

Bonnie couldn't remember the last time she had fun. The last time were genuine laughter rumbled from her chest, the last time when she ate so much, she nearly puked over a stranger. Kai seemed to be right on the same track as her and had just offered to go and grab some drinks when Bonnie paused in the street. Kai had kept walking, not realizing that she had halted. As Bonnie explored her recent psychic abilities, she learned to recognize the pulse of certain people. She could recognize when Kai was around, even when she couldn't see him, just by feeling out his magic.

Bonnie turned in the street, frowning deeply. Vampires had magic, it's how they were made and now...she felt a strong pull. A powerful heavy pull which meant that...a Mikaelson was near.

"What's wrong?" Kai finally turned, noting that she was confused.

Bonnie didn't respond and followed that thread all the way to a backwater bar, isolated from most of the buildings. Kai was right behind her as Bonnie pushed through into the bar. Right as she entered, she was half shocked to see Klaus standing before two men. One of them, she realized was Thierry and an unknown one that she identified as a werewolf.

Klaus swivelled to her, a coy smirk on his face. "Bonnie. Hello, good friend. I expected you to be half-drunk down the city, dancing between Kai's legs." He gave a fingered wave at Kai behind her. "And as you enjoyed the midnight entertainment, I planned to play around with these unfortunate souls but I suppose you can join on the fun as well. I'm not one to hog on all the festivities."

Bonnie loosened her worry. Elijah must have stayed at the manor. "What are you doing?" She neared the two gagged supernaturals, bounded to the chair.

Klaus clicked his tongue and circled the duo. "As you've recognized, this fellow," he pointed to Thierry, "Has been sleeping with the enemy. His lover," he pointed to the other man, "belongs to the Bayou. I wonder what Marcel would do once he discovers his Second has been dallying behind his back."

Thierry's response was muffled through the gag and Klaus only chuckled. Kai walked forward, clearing his throat. He grabbed Bonnie's arm, tugging her away. "Well good luck on your chores, BonBon and I have better places to be."

Klaus waved and turned back to his captors. Bonnie was about to let herself get pulled away like the majority of the night but then Elijah walked in. Her heart froze. The Original seemed to be holding a human at the neck, the boy whimpering at the grip. "Bonnie."

Bonnie pulled away from Kai and struggled to wrap her mind around what was in front of her. "Wh-what are you doing here?"

Elijah shoved the boy to the ground, right at Klaus' feet. "Working to get our city back."

Klaus bent down, picking up the boy. "I suppose this one will have to do." His eyes neared the face of the boy, starting the process of compelling. "You will attract attention to yourself. You will get noticed by Marcel and you will make sure that he turns you into one of his vampires. You report back to me once it's done." The boy nodded and Klaus patted him, letting the boy walk out.

"What is going on?" Kai asked.

"A couple of birdies told me that Marcel hosts a little party every Saturday, tomorrow at midnight, where he lets his vampires feed on the tourists. He selects a couple of humans to turn and form them into his loyal subjects. That pathetic human is going to weave his way into the circle so that we can have a foot in his charmed class."

"But compulsion wears off after the human turns into a vampire," Kai pointed out.

"An Original's compulsion runs deeper than that."

Bonnie's breathing began staggered. "Please...please tell me that you didn't leave Hayley alone at the manor."

Elijah silently adjusted himself, pulling his hands out his pockets. "She's asleep."

Bonnie ran a hand through her hair, gripping the roots as she paced around. She began to curse and Kai filled in the brothers. "The witches can break through our spell."

"How is that relatively possible?" Elijah demanded and Klaus's calm composure stiffened. "Only the witch who cast the spell can undo it."

"There's something different about the magic here," Kai answered.

Bonnie froze, her head turning. "No vampires bothered us when Kai and I were in the city." This was what she got for being happy, for straying away from the main goal.

"Which means Marcel isn't focused on you two," Klaus growled and he clenched and unclenched his fist.

Elijah had already flitted out. Klaus cursed vividly and stalked to the two silent prisoners. "We're not done here, dear Thierry," he said before snapping the vampire's neck. He turned to the werewolf and knocked him out with one punch. Klaus turned to Kai. "Keep an eye on these idiots." Before Kai could respond, Klaus grabbed Bonnie and flitted to the manor as well.

Klaus and Elijah had left moments ago and Hayley retreated to the lone manor. She had an urge to eat something raw, something meat so she wandered into the kitchen. She hummed a lullaby that she faintly remembered as a child as she foraged through the fridge.

Hayley paused when the lights flickered for a brief second. She cocked her head to the side in slight confusion. Maybe it was a power outage issue, this house was old schooled.

Hayley pulled out bread, lettuce, tomatoes, and a thick chunk of red meat. She began to whistle, setting up the sandwich layers. Just as she was about to cut the food in half, the lights went completely off. Her werewolf senses skyrocketed through the roof, sensing danger. She was still confused because there was nothing—

Just as her eyes began to adjust in the dark, the lights boomed on again and Hayley stumbled back with a scream when a girl stood on the other side of the counter. Her hair was slightly curled, a fawn brown and she was short for a teenage girl.

She seemed to be chanting under her breath and pieces started to click in Hayley's head. A witch, the ones she was supposed to stay away from, had broken through Bonnie's barrier. Hayley held the knife out, snarling, "Hey, what are you doing?" The girl didn't stop. Hayley tapped the metal edge of the knife against the counter to get her attention. "Listen, I won't hesitate to throw this at you. How the hell did you get in here?" And then it hit her, the queasiness that was now erupting from her belly, the lightheadedness.

Hayley swayed on her feet and she hurtled all her energy to finally throw the knife. She pulled it back with wicked speed and aimed at the girl's head but the witch flung it away from her as it travelled through the air. The knife clanked on the floor. The pain in her stomach spread and Hayley's breathing shortened as she lowered to the floor. She tried to crawl for the door, to leave somehow but the witch's chant had grown. "Tuer le fœtus, périr sa magie et sa vie."

Hayley screamed, gripping her head and stomach in pain. "Please stop." The lights were flickering again, most of them sparking out gold but the girl didn't even stutter as she continued.

Hayley realized that she was approaching her figure. With a dagger.
