Kai could tell she was trying to string along lies but was failing horribly at it. He pushed himself of the chair and slowly approached her. "What do you want with the grimoire?"

"Just a little spell—"

"Don't lie to me, Davina. Did you know I didn't have breakfast? I'm quite cranky when there is an obstacle between me and my food. Did you also know I killed a waitress for taking too long? Very unfortunate," he clicked his tongue.

Davina collected herself and admitted, "I am looking for the spell that will unlink a vampire bloodline."

Kai took in the sliver of information and cogs turned in his head. She wanted to unlink Marcel from Klaus's bloodline and... "To kill Klaus." Before she could respond, Kai added, "Looks like we have a common goal."

"What?"

"I made a deal with Sophie Devereux. I give her the Original family to convert their ancient magic into New Orleans power and you, Bonnie, Hayley and little cursed Mikaelson go unharmed," he answered with a hint of annoyance. Kai was getting hangry.

"You don't even have the—"

"Initial Conjuration? Yeah, another thing. Dear Devereux is teaching me so that nothing goes wrong." He watched his fingers as if they would crackle with power. Kai turned back to Davina with a question in his eyes. "So what do you say? We join forces and take down the sons of bitches? The world would certainly be brighter."

Davina accepted quicker than she should have. "But we find a spell to unlink the bloodline."

Kai shrugged. Caroline could be part of Klaus's bloodline and if she died...Bonnie would be devastated. "Sure thing." Davina resumed looking from the grimoire, unaware that Kai was watching from a distance. Unaware that he was tricking her, falsely earning her trust only to backstab her when it was convenient to him. Unaware of the different type of hunger in his eyes, lusting after the ancestral magic in her blood, envious of it. Kai only grinned.

Bonnie sat on the bench in the park, legs crossed and staring off into the rising sun. She left Hayley's room the moment dawn broke, having a need for fresh air.

She remained there, letting the sun bronze her face. Bonnie had to try and figure out how she was going to keep Hayley alive before the child came out. She was due in the next couple of weeks already and Bonnie knew that being out there in the open was a risk. But—

Her cellphone vibrated in her pocket and Bonnie let it ring. Just a little more time, she thought with a deep breath. The phone kept ringing. Bonnie huffed and pulled it out of her pocket. "Hello?"

"Bonnie," the soft, broken and familiar voice called on the other end.

Bonnie's heart froze for a second and swelled with warmth. "Caroline?" She sat up straighter, a smile spreading across her face. "Oh my god, how are you?"

Caroline giggled on the other end but it sounded forced. "I'm doing fine. How's New Orleans? How's Kai, how is everything? I haven't heard from you in a while, I thought you forgot about us."

Bonnie was on her feet now, pacing with a hand on her forehead. She had forgotten about them. "Right, of course I didn't forget about you guys. Things here are...going smoothly. Well, as smoothly as it can get."

There was a long pause and then Caroline answered, "Really?" Bonnie stopped pacing and spun around, realizing that her response was right behind her. Caroline stood there, a couple of feet from the park bench with a sun radiating smile. "You mind showing me how smoothly things are?"

Bonnie dropped the phone and ran to her best friend with a gasp entwined with a sob, embracing Caroline deeply. She nuzzled her head into Caroline's shoulder, pulling her closer. "I've missed you."

Caroline didn't hesitate to hug her back, letting the silence settle between them until they both pulled away. Caroline tucked a blonde strand of her hair behind her ear shyly and said, "How's..."

Klaus, Bonnie realized. "He's busy." Trying to arrange a meeting to ensure the future of his child and his kingdom.

"Of course he is, he's literally Klaus Mikaelson."

"Listen, Care, we're in the middle of something."

"What are you talking about? Are you in trouble? We can call over the whole team, we'll take care of--" Caroline was saying rapidly.

Bonnie shook her head before the vampire got any further in her spew. She briefly touched on the current dilemma, avoiding information that would only put her best friend in danger. And before Caroline could try to pressure her into returning back to Mystic Falls, Bonnie launched into another story about how she felt an odd vibe with Kai.

Caroline seemed to accept the diversion of the topic and told suggested that she should speak to him or she should just wait the sentiment out. If it grows, then you have to sit down with him.

Bonnie led Caroline back to the compound, walking confidently through the gates. To no shock, Rebekah and Elijah were amongst themselves, speaking.

They froze and turned slowly, taking in the newcomer. Rebekah scoffed, crossing her arms. "Well if it isn't the bimbo bitch I love and loathe."

Caroline crossed her arms back in a defensive manner as well, cocking her head. "Well if it isn't bimbo bitch that I just loathe." A battle of the blondes.

Elijah ruffled his suit, his finger bouncing between his sister and Caroline. "As much as I would like to bet on this banter, may ask why you're here, Caroline?"

"She's staying for a while, checking in on me." Bonnie nodded to herself, taking a deep breath. "To avoid any casualties, she'll be out after two days."

Caroline was shaking her head, sucking her teeth. "I told you, I don't need protection."

"And I said that I can't prioritize you, Kai, Hayley and the baby," Bonnie reasoned, leading them further into the building.

"You know, I still don't understand what is going on," Caroline scoffed. "It's not like I can read the latest news article about whether or not Klaus ate pancakes or a human for breakfast."

"Funny thing, Klaus suggested the same thing," Rebekah said under her breath.

They paused in the living room, walking in to find Hayley waiting patiently. She turned with a soft smile. "There you guys are. You're slower than an old retired wolf."

Elijah examined the station's setup, fake babies on the table, baby formula's and all the typical shenanigans. "What's all this?"

Hayley propped her arms on her hips, exposing her large belly and it was now that Bonnie realized that Caroline was still in the room. Her usual bright glow seemed to be dimmed. Caroline seemed to shrink in a corner as Hayley answered, "I am putting you, males of the house, to the test. Babysitters in training."

"Kai isn't here, Klaus isn't here," Rebekah pointed out. Kai and Davina seemed to be missing.

The doors boomed open. Klaus marched in with purpose, mouth open as he said, "I've spoken to Father Kierran about the meeting and he is happily on board. I meet with the pack of werewolves in less than an hour and I scheduled the vampires in for 9 o'clock—" he paused, taking the weight of the room.

First Hayley and the baby stations and then...Caroline. The room was tense and silent. Even Rebekah shut her mouth and reached for a whiskey bottle, pouring three glasses out. She handed the other two to Bonnie and Hayley. Hayley's eyes widened with a warning, and Rebekah shrugged, as if not caring that the alcohol could harm the child. Hayley simply shook her head, taking a deep breath in the continuing silence of the room.
