cord of magic

The sweet lullaby of the siren erupted through the lot and Bonnie knew that it was too late. Sybil was out and if Damon was there--

"Time to go," Kai declared, reaching for Bonnie again. She stepped out of his grasp, wiping away the salt tears. Kai frowned. "Oh, don't be so difficult. Let's go."

Bonnie took steps back, wondering how she could have trusted him again, how she could have felt that shred of want from him. The thought of it sent pricks of tears in her eyes and she turned, her blood boiling.

"Bonnie, come on," Kai said to her back. "I'm better than Damon anyway."

She turned harshly at that. "You're not. You're even worse than Sybil. I don't know what you believe in that screwed-up brain of yours but...I am so done with you. It's to a point where I don't even want to kill you because the effort will waste my energy. I've spent too much of that on you." Bonnie glanced around the car. "What did you do to Valerie?"

"I'll tell you if you come." He held his hand for her to take.

Bonnie scoffed to herself, staring at the sky in disbelief. She didn't even have a chance to speak up when the small footsteps arrived in the driveway. They both turned to the naked female, skin caramel-like Bonnie's only lighter and a golden tan. The curves of the woman were almost sinful, almost lethal and Kai took her in. The flesh on her bones was a bit thin, showing signs of starvation. The siren's hair was short, brown and brushing her shoulders that were taut and tall. Sybil was short, about the height of Bonnie. She had Damon unconscious under her grasp, gripping his collar. She licked her fingers and chuckled. "You must be the witch that let me go."

Kai cursed, turning to Bonnie with eyes urging her to leave. Bonnie took a step towards the siren. "Is he dead?" The words were poison on her tongue and she looked at Damon's still body, braving a new type of demon.

Sybil looked at Damon's face and then pushed him to the floor. "No." The simple answer sparked hope in Bonnie's mind. "I'm not hungry for him."

Bonnie didn't even hesitate when she pointed to Kai. "He's the most corrupt witch you'll ever meet. I know you're not into supernaturals but trust me, he will fill your belly."

Sybil smiled, glaring at Kai who was speechless. He wondered why he hadn't ran at that hungry smirk, why he hadn't left Bonnie. True, she had grown on him, but there was a thin line between affection and survival. And Bonnie had betrayed him. Sybil took steps, standing beside Bonnie as they watched Kai. Bonnie knew Kai wasn't stupid enough to try to run. That would only give Sybil a chase.

Bonnie was cut off guard when Sybil's bony hands caged her head. Bonnie screamed as the woman entered her mind. Flashes of pain, Enzo, Elena, her grandma, her father appeared in her vision like camera shots. Sybil continued to dig in, sweetly saying, "Even though I'm craving flesh, I do wonder what it is like to have a Bennett witch under your arm. I know we've had our differences when I took Enzo and Damon but now that he's dead and Damon is weaker than ever, I want you."

"She doesn't have magic," Kai declared, eyes wide.

Sybil chuckled, dropping her hands away. Bonnie swayed, moaning from the after pain. "Is that so?" Bonnie recovered from the pain and stood straight, eyes duller than usual. "Then why did I find the cord to her magic?"

"What?" Kai asked, confused.

On cue, Sybil ordered Bonnie's mind to show a taste of what she had. The lights on the streets flickered as Bonnie raised her hand to Kai. She flickered her hand to the side and his body slammed against a wall. His head hit exactly where Bonnie had hit in the car when he was singing country music. Only this time, there was a nasty open wound. Sybil appeared in his vision, her tongue licking her lips. "But I suppose I got to thank you for opening my cage. Two witches are always better than one."

Kai couldn't react when Sybil dug her mental talons in his mind, rooting past all the emotion he learned to suppress. The images of his family flashed, Jo, the other Gemini twins and hunting them down in their family home. Killing his mother and trying to do the same to his father. The getting locked in the prison world. The story began to change, Bonnie's smile appearing brighter than all the other images. To that, Kai fell to his knees, his eyes watering when Sybil brought up more images of Bonnie. Most were with her on the ground, bleeding at his hands, others were her simply watching him with a calculated glare.

Sybil pulled back, her smile bright. "There we go. I think I need clothes."

Kai blinked, eyes looking up at the siren before he pulled himself to his feet. "Is this where the fun begins?"

"You clearly don't know me well, Malachai."

Damon woke to an empty lot, his skin, his body rigid. He tried to remember what happened. He only remembered Kai casting an invisible spell and running off with Bonnie, later followed by a siren call. He grunted, wiping his hands on his shirt from the gravel.

"Damon?" Caroline called from down the streets, Valerie close behind. "What happened?"

"I don't know," he rasped, wondering how he got here, how he was still alive.

"Where's Bonnie? She was supposed to be with you." Caroline glanced around, her brows rose in confusion and fear.

"Kai Parker happened," Damon declared. "He opened the vault and took Bonnie, leaving me behind."

"How's that possible?" Caroline's eyes widened. "Only a human can open it."

"He must have siphoned off it," Valerie concluded, nodding to herself. "It's what he did to me. He siphoned me a bit but ended up snapping my neck and tossing me into the lake."

"Kai 2, us, 0." Caroline cursed, sighing in exhaustion. "You don't think he'd hurt her, right?"

"He's a sad romantic. He grabbed Bonnie because Sybil was right behind us," Damon growled.

"Then where's Sybil? And how are you alive?" Valerie questioned with suspicion.

"If I knew, I'd be dead, Valerie," Damon yelled.

Caroline swallowed. "If she is truly awake, the first person she'll go for is--"

"Katherine."
