Rebekah and Elijah hauled heavy Hayley into the pool but Davina quickly told them not to. It had to be natural water. Bonnie was on stand-by as she prepared the spell, making sure it was to help Hayley and not harm her.
So Rebekah fetched a large basin, big enough to fit Elijah and Hayley. He held her sleeping body. She had dozed off a while ago. Davina had now gathered herbs and potions.
She tipped each vial into the basin, turning it into a cloudy water. Just as Davina began the spell, Bonnie approached, whispering so low and calmly, it might have seemed like she was asking the teen for her favourite ice cream. "If you try anything, I will send you to a void so black, dark and lonely that even death won't be able to find you. Don't forget, I am a Bennett witch. I can make anything happen."
Davina swallowed, not saying a word as Bonnie stepped back. She began the spell once more. "Arrêtez l'impureté, bannissez-la, combattez-la." The water bubbled and steaming and she chanted louder. "Arrêtez l'impureté, bannissez-la, combattez-la."
Hayley jolted awake, gasping. The water was still rippling around her but her eyes fell to Davina. "What is she still doing here?"
"Hayley," Elijah said in a soothing tone.
Hayley was far from soothed, eyes turning rabid. "Get her away from my baby." Seeing the witch again, conjuring a spell around her must have stirred memories of that night, the utter fear.
"Calm her down," Davina ordered through her spell. "Arrêtez l'impureté, bannissez-la, combattez-la."
Hayley began to thrash but then Elijah dipped his lips close enough to her ear, whispering. Whatever she said seemed to calm her down, to sedate her enough for the winds to start howling.
Something was working. Bonnie remained grounded, hoping that her magic would be able to tell if the intentions of this spell would be negative or positive. Hayley wasn't harmed so she assumed she was on a good track.
"Arrêtez l'impureté, bannissez-la, combattez-la." The wind ceased to whistle and Davina opened her eyes. "It's done."
Rebekah crossed her arms. "Why is Hayley's belly still the size of my arse?"
Bonnie fought the urge to roll her eyes as Davina responded. "I was able to stop the speeding, not reverse it. This is the best I can do. If I call in my ancestral magic to fight against their black magic, the place will blow up. It wasn't meant to fight with each other, it was meant to join."
"So..." Hayley swallowed, hand roaming over her large belly. "This is it? We let them rob me of the journey, the 6 months I had ahead of me to connect to my baby?"
Elijah stroked her hair but didn't say a thing. Bonnie took a deep breath. Hayley looked a couple of weeks away until she gave birth. She cleared her throat and mustered enough energy to say, "Now we find Kai."
*
They all gazed at the map before them, Davina pointing and explaining. Rebekah was making sure Hayley was recovering from the spell. "Sophie is on the council of witches, she and 4 other members make the big shots when it comes to decisions. They arrange our sacrifices, the magical parties and offerings, the—"
"Harvest," Elijah finished with a curt nod.
Davina swallowed deeply and straightened up, and continued. "Yes. And if she's taken Kai, the 3 main locations where you'll find them is either Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, or the Lafayette Cemetery."
Klaus had his arms behind his back as he said, "My money is on the cemetery. The witches have grown an affection for the dead it seems."
Bonnie shook her head, rolling her eyes. "Okay, how do we get Kai? We can't exactly bust in with Davina with the risk of having them kill her. We can't use me because they are already stronger. Which leaves the two of you," she motioned to Elijah and Klaus.
"But then there is the scenario where this all could be a trap, a ruse to lure us in," Elijah rubbed his index finger against his thumb patiently, pondering.
"And walking right into the heart of our ancestral magic will not work well against any of you. I am your best shot, the magic will level with me because I am part of it," Davina tried to reason.
Bonnie scoffed impolitely, crossing her arms. "I get that we're allies but risking your life is not helping us in any way." Before anybody could butt in, she continued. "I think that it's time to gather all the representatives from the werewolves, the vampires and the human board that Marcel negotiated with. We can try and strike peace because we have a common enemy. The wolves, witches and humans have been suppressed by the vampires but with Marcel gone, they have nobody to lead them into a blind storm."
"We've already stressed out that option. Miraculously, all of Marcel's vampires are still loyal to him, the ones he didn't punish at least. And even that is a small amount. Dictatorship or not, he was good to his people. Which leaves the Were's and the humans," Elijah said.
"Hayley will speak to the werew—"
"She won't," Bonnie declared firmly.
Klaus cocked his head in amusement. "I beg your pardon?"
"Hayley is in no shape to be going into any hostile environment with her condition. She is fragile right now, she needs rest."
"I somehow doubt she will appreciate you calling her family hostile," Klaus snorted.
Bonnie ignored him and turned to Davina. "Back to Kai. We round up the delegates, discuss a treaty between us and against the witches. If they disagree, I will need to—"
The door swung open, cutting Bonnie off. Nobody, not even Elijah, moved as the footsteps echoed down the courtyard. Bonnie blinked back her shock and scanned the newcomer from head to toe.
Kai had emerged, slushy in hands and fries in the other. He seemed to be whistling an old tune to Britney Spears when he spotted all 4 of them surrounding the table. "Hello, friends. Sorry, had to dip out for a craving momentarily. Being good somehow amplifies my insatiable hunger."
Bonnie was speechless, trying to reel in what was before her. Klaus spoke for her, scanning Kai from head to toe. "You mean to inform me that we plotted your useless rescue just to discover you went to treat yourself with food?"
"Aw, you guys were looking for me?" He chuckled, eyes twinkling. Kai bumped Elijah's breast jacket playfully but the vampire only stared him down hard. "That's so sweet. I'll leave a note on the fridge next time."
"This is Kai?" Davina asked skeptically.
"I'm gonna pretend like you didn't just say that," he took a long slurp from the Styrofoam cup, tongue a faint tint of blue. "But yes, drum roll please, I am Kai Parker, former leader of the Gemini Coven, dun, dun, dun."
Klaus muttered some profanities and addressed nobody in particular. "We stick with our plan, gathering the delegates to form a better treaty than the tyranny and dictatorship Marcel installed. Let's hope that the other factions are willing to band together to take the witches down a couple of pegs." He left soon after, flitting off into the sunset.
Elijah and Davina fell into a comfortable conversation and Bonnie followed Kai into the kitchen. "Where were you?"
"Hm? I told you, I was taking a foodrun," he said, rummaging through the pantry. "Want a sandwich? My aunt used to make me this amazing..." he rambled on and on about it, setting up the meal before him.
Bonnie crossed her arms, leaning against the counter with caution. He was lying. Bonnie was almost certain that the whole Sophie Devereux interaction was truthful but yet here he stood, perfectly fine. Maybe she misplaced the whole situation? She tried to brush the speculation aside, Bonnie was just confused. Yet some part of her told her that she was right.
