Joshua Parker's eyes were bulging with rage, every aspect of his face red. He looked like a man on a mission to destroy everything in his way and Kai was in the least bit fazed. Blood began to leak down his nose and he only smiled. This must-have fuelled his father because he threw another punch right into Kai's gut.
Bonnie's expression was horrified and confused at the same time as she stood frozen in spot. When all she could hear were the pummeling fists, she caught hold of Joshua's shoulders in an attempt to pull him off Kai. Only when she tried, the man swivelled around to push her to Bonnie to the ground. The pain that shot up her spine as she landed was excruciating and in all her effort to conceal it, Kai saw it. His features melted into one of anger as he turned to his father, holding two fingers out.
Joshua's lip twitched in visible internal pain. Blood leaked out his ears and eyes, the grunts of agony from the man finally echoing in the driveway. More inhabitants of the mansion stumbled out, all in fright when they realized who it was. Bonnie pushed herself to her feet, placing a hand on Kai's. "Stop."
Kai hesitated before dropping the hand away, later taking a deep breath. Bonnie now realized that a handful of blondes were all surrounding them. She wasn't sure whether to feel threatened but if they wanted to do something, they would use magic.
Joshua wiped the blood from his eyes but even the emotion of fear was unknown to him. He looked even angrier as he stood from the ground. "We made it clear that we never wanted to see your face here ever again, Malachai."
Bonnie finally recognized one face. It was Olivia Parker, Luke's twin sister. Her hair was in its usual small curls and her eyes big and blue. "Is this the...Gemini Coven?"
"Bonnie?" Liv muttered, finally recognizing the familiar face. The marks of her internal torment were on her face and Bonnie could only imagine what that felt when you lost your other half due to a family tradition that went wrong. "What are you are you doing here with him?"
"I-"
"Hello to you, Livvie. It's been a while since we've spoken, I was really hoping we could reconnect over the summer," Kai grinned, wiping the blood frown his nose.
"What are doing here, Kai?" A middle-aged woman with straight shiny golden streaks of the sun for hair muttered in annoyance. All of them looked exhausted to see him. "You must be here for a reason, there's nothing left you can take from us."
"Hey, I'm your coven leader--"
"You were our coven leader. After you went rogue, nearly killing Jo and I and finally killing Luke we couldn't bear to have you as our leader. So we placed all of our magic in a place where you will never find it. So now, we are not a coven. We are simple humans trying to get past Christmas Eve without having you lurking the halls, preying on one of our own once more," Liv yelled, her hands balling into fists.
Kai chuckled. "Aw, Livvie. You think you have the balls to speak up to me? I'm your big brother, for godsake. Have a little respect." He shook his head and addressed the rest. "I've come to formally...apologize for the harm I've inflicted. I do hope we can move past this."
Bonnie cocked her head slowly, wondering if there was the tone of sarcasm in his sentence. None. Kai's eyes landed on hers as if he could sense her doubt. He winked and she shook her head.
Joshua spat his blood on the ground, grunting. "There is nothing you can do to make us forget all the sins you've brought upon our family. Take your things, take your girlfriend and--"
Kai's finger twitched and he held his hand up, Liv going into some sort of invisible chokehold. Her eyes enlarged and she began to gasp for all the air she could get, struggling terribly. The family began to stir, itching for the opening to attack Kai.
Bonnie concerned, watched as the blood rushed to Liv's face. "Kai." Somehow, he wasn't listening. His only gaze was on his father and he did not even release his hold. "Kai."
"I don't think I make myself very clear. I just traveled through all these states to make an effort to be good for BonBon over here. And now that I am here, giving you my condolences, you spit it back in my face," Kai laughed. "That is something we cannot have."
The woman with straight hair spoke up. "That is not how forgiveness works."
"Funny thing is, I control the situation here." Liv's grunts for air became more bolded, ringing in all of their minds.
"Fine, fine,"Joshua yelled, the first emotion since the anger he showed gone. His face was contorted in worry and concern for one of his only daughters. "We forgive you. I forgive you."
Kai immediately dropped his hands away, holding them up in surrender. "That wasn't so hard, was it?" Liv dropped to the floor, hand over her throat as she gasped for the returning fresh air.
Bonnie didn't waste a beat when she maneuvered her way back to the car. She knew that Kai was always going to have a past but she thought he...changed. But today, she realized he would always have that insane instinct to hurt people when it was not necessary. She heard him mutter something quickly to the group before following after her. Once they were in the car, Bonnie turned to the window in silence.
"What? You didn't like how I made the choice to come back to them against every cell in my body to say sorry?" He muttered, pulling away with the car.
Bonnie shook her head. "It was unnecessary."
"What do you mean? I did it for you, I did it to prove that I can be the good little boy you're dreaming of. It was totally worth it. I want to show you that I can be good for you, that you change me for the better."
"Except I don't. You nearly killed Liv because she wouldn't forgive you for killing her twin brother to gain power over the coven. The woman was right, that is not how forgiveness works, it has to be earned and sincere. And the worse part is that you didn't even recognize it, it was all like some sort of theatre show for you. You looked like you were enjoying yourself as if you were finally breathing your own air and not mine. So no, I don't make you better, Kai. I deflect all your attention onto me," Bonnie ranted, not even looking straight into his eyes. "This was unnecessary."
Kai was silent for what seemed to be forever before he muttered, "You can spend Christmas with your friends." He was completely aware that he was supposed to be with her but Kai knew that when it came to choosing between him and Mystic Falls... "Hey, maybe dad should have hitched a ride back with you, he'd finally get to meet his grandchildren."
"No, he doesn't even know about them. Jo didn't want the coven to find out that there was another opportunity for another Gemini blood so she hid them, never coming in contact with her father. She knew how much the coven hated you so she feared that they would come after the twins next to do the merge and replace you. But the late Gemini Coven will never learn to know the little girls."
Kai chuckled slowly, swallowing at the road. "Um...well. I might have informed dad that Lizzie and Josie are sweet little siphoners just like me. And that I hope he gets to meet them at the wedding."
Bonnie's eyes widened slightly but she shrugged. "It's fine. They don't have magic anymore, Liv mentioned that they placed it in an unknown object."
Kai cleared his throat. "They can take it back out..."
