By the time Bonnie returned to the house they were now living in, Elijah and Klaus were nowhere to be seen. Bonnie was stunned to find Rebekah sitting in the living room, while her nails and feet were getting done. It was like she had morphed the entire room to her personal leisure.
Bonnie's nose crinkled when she saw Rebekah feed on one of the women who were painting her nails ruby red. The same type of red that now stained her teeth as the vampire pulled back with a grin. "Evening, Bonnie. It's been a while since we've crossed paths. How is dear old, blonde bimbo Caroline? Or better yet, crying hopeless Elena? Whispers tell me that she is dead."
Bonnie rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. She assumed Rebekah would be caught up on the news. "Where's Elijah and Klaus?"
Rebekah pouted, but answered, "Out and about, doing whatever it is heroic brothers do these days."
"Heroic? There's nothing heroic about Klaus." Bonnie scoffed.
Rebekah's cat-like grin grew. "I think I like you, Bonnie Bennett. We'll be fast friends."
"No thank you," she politely declined and began to turn. "Is Hayley here?"
"Hayley is—" Rebekah froze in alert as if she heard something. Her face was washed off from her bold snakiness and replaced with utter concern and confusion.
Bonnie cocked her head in demand, "What? What's wrong?"
Rebekah pushed off the chair she was propped in, pushing past the people who were pampering her and stomped up the stairs with her vampire speed. Bonnie managed to catch up, following her down the halls to a room. And as she stood in the hallways, she heard it then. The faint gasping and strenuous breathing. Labored and distressed.
Rebekah slammed the door open with a mean expression, mostly annoyed. "What in the bloody hell is happening—"
When Bonnie stepped in, the sight of Hayley nearly made her gasp. The wolf lay in the bed, the covers on the floor along with pillows. Her skin was drenched in perspiration, sweat, musty and wet. Her hair was plastered to every inch of her skin and her eyes were bleak. And her stomach was already grown to the size of a watermelon. It wasn't like that hours ago and Bonnie knew that a baby couldn't grow that fast.
As she charged for the bed, Hayley managed to pant, "Something is happening to the baby."
Bonnie placed her hand to her wet forehead, trying to sense anything off. She used her psychic abilities, the ones that could detect when a magic being was around and tried to find the source of her distress. Hayley was grunting in the effort now, patches of water on her clothes from all the heat.
Rebekah approached, eyes glued to the belly. "Klaus is going to find a way to blame this madness on me, I just know it."
Bonnie ignored the vampire and her hands landed on Hayley's belly. She closed her eyes. "Dic quid accidit." Bonnie flew back, eyes wide with shock at the revelation.
"What is it?" Rebekah demanded. "Do well to share your insight, I have a mani-pedi to return to."
Bonnie reigned her gasp, for the sake of Hayley. "The witches. They're...they're..."
"They're what?" Hayley managed to say through her gritted teeth.
"They're speeding up the pregnancy." Bonnie knew that they were using dark, black magic to grow the child. She could feel it, the essence of what she once was. She hesitated to touch it, hesitated to drown herself in it again.
"Those impatient crones are that desperate for the child?" Rebekah scoffed her disbelief and moved towards the bed, hoisting Hayley up and unto her feet. Rebekah supported her weight, gripping Hayley's arms over her shoulder. "Let's get you to the pool to cool you off."
We need to find Kai, she said to herself. That girl, Sophie Devereux could be torturing him, hurting him—
"Elijah has returned," Rebekah said, thanks to her supernatural hearing. She carried Hayley effortlessly down the levels, to meet the vampire before them.
Elijah walked through the gates casually, as usual, and his face hardened when he took in Hayley. "What have you done sister?"
"Have you lost your mind? In whatever world would you believe that I did this? I expected the accusation from Klaus, but you?" Rebekah sneered.
Before her brother could respond, a new shadow emerged from behind Elijah, one that Bonnie was familiar with. Her blood boiled when Davina came into view. Elijah spotted this and bristled. "We have made a truce with Davina. She works alongside us and Marcel's...sentence shortens."
Bonnie narrowed her eyes, remembering the night Davina had made Hayley scream. Hayley remembered it too and her eyes blazed. Davina remained quiet but her eyes were pinned to the growing belly, confused.
"Whatever," Bonnie managed to say. "Kai is kidnapped by this witch that goes by Sophie Devereux and the witches are forcibly trying to push the baby out."
Hayley stirred in response and Elijah moved towards her, taking her from Rebekah who still looked pissed. From getting interrupted from her mani-pedi or the fact that her brother was skeptical of her, you would never know.
Davina's head perked at that. "Sophie Devereux?"
Bonnie stilled, the courtyard growing quiet. For Kai, she thought. For Kai, I will put my hate for her aside. "Yes. Do you know her?"
"She is the aunt of one of the harvest girls that were killed in the sacrifice."
"The what?" Rebekah said. Elijah launched into a quick tale about how the magic within New Orleans was distributed to four girls to be returned back to its home.
"If Sophie has him...she's going to use him to either get me or your child. She was one of the believers, she sits on the witch council."
"Which makes her equally as dangerous as the other witches. I briefly met her, when I was trying to convince Niklaus of his child," Elijah informed.
"We need to get Kai out of there," Bonnie declared.
"Later. We must figure out how to put a stop to this foolishness." Elijah peered at Hayley, looking like she was about to fall off her legs.
Bonnie might have argued but Hayley didn't look good. Bonnie believed that Kai could hold off on his own.
"I can help," Davina said in a small voice. Bonnie heard it then. The timidness, the shyness, it was all an act. The girl she saw last night was far from self-conscious or timid. She was power-hungry, determined to destroy anything in her path. And after what Klaus doomed the remaining of Marcel's life to be in darkness, that fire, the glow she assumed was from the ancestral magic, marked Klaus. And his family. So Davina was playing them. But Bonnie didn't say a word. They could use Davina, up until a point where the witches weren't a threat anymore. As long as she let Davina think that Bonnie believed her, everything would be fine. It would be a game to see who could pretend better. A very dangerous game.
