completely cruel

The doorbell rang and the twins ran to it, giggling. "Daddy's here!" Josie began to jump with excitement, Lizzie reaching for the knob.

"Be careful girls, wait for me," Jo yelled from the kitchen, slipping the oven mittens from her hands. The oven was now baking the cupcakes the twins baked and it was silent in response. "Lizzie? Josie, come here." Jo narrowed her eyes at the silence and started to walk towards the front door. "What are you girls doing--"

Jo stopped in her tracks, her mouth agape as she took in the man in front of the door. Kai was leaning against the frame, smiling at the two girls. "Hey, Jo. I was expecting your lovely face but these in turn...hey there sweethearts." Kai bent down to their short level. He then fished something from his pocket. "You want chocolate?"

"Lizzie, take your sister and go play in your rooms," Jo said, swallowing. She beckoned the girls over. Lizzie grabbed Josie's arm and they began to sprint towards the stairs, speaking among themselves. "What are you doing here, Kai?" Jo rasped, taking a step back as he crossed the threshold.

"You know, I've been waiting to meet my little nieces. I'm sure they are anxious to meet their dashingly handsome uncle," Kai muttered as he picked up a family photo with Jo, Ric and the twins in the frame.

"I don't know if you remember, but we weren't exactly on good terms when we last parted."

Kai gasped dramatically. "You don't actually believe that I'd ever hurt those little gumballs of cuteness?" He tsked. "Well, I brought some guests over. I hope you don't mind."

At that moment, Sybil stepped in, wearing tight black jeans and a floral tank top. She had a coy smirk, her black heels stepping over the threshold. Bonnie followed right after slamming the door shut.

"Bonnie," Jo said, confused as she glanced between the two. "Ric said you were--"

"Is this your twin sister?" Sybil asked Kai, chuckling. "She is beautiful."

"Let's cut right to the chase. Where are Lizzie and Josie?" Bonnie declared.

Jo swallowed. "I'll call them." Kai leaned against the wall, taking in the hallway furniture. Sybil waited as well, crossing her arms. "Jo...Lizzie?" Giggles erupted from upstairs. "We're going to play a game called hide and seek. Don't come out until--"

Bonnie bared her teeth, raising her hand in sync to what she said, "Motus." The table knife behind Jo flew, straight through her gut and she grunted.

"You just made things harder for us, Jo. I wish you hadn't upset BonBon," Kai sighed, jogging towards the stairs. He grabbed the pillars and swung himself up.

"K-Kai, please," Jo gasped as blood began leaking out her mouth. She fell to her knees, gripping the floor in pain. "You said you wouldn't hurt them." Tears watered in her eyes. "Please don't hurt them."

Kai was gone and Sybil stepped up. "I am not completely cruel, I would never harm innocent children. I only want to use them to find my other half. I'm sure you've heard of her, Kathrine Pierce?" She paced in front of Jo.

Jo's grunts of pain grew and Bonnie remained still. Until the door began to jangle. "It's Ric," Bonnie declared.

"Kai's got the children." Sybil glanced up, her mind syncing with his. She bowed before Jo. "Pleasure meeting you, soon-to-be bride. I do hope the marriage is successful. I also hope you don't mind us babysitting the kids for a couple of days."

The door swung open and Ric stepped into the empty hallway. He locked the door behind him. "Jo? How does turkey for dinner sound? I know it's not Thanksgiving but the kids love it--" He halted, the puddle of blood in front of his fiancée seeping into his vision. He ran to her with worry, "What happened? Jo?" He grabbed her body and tried to wake her.

"The kids," she muttered breathlessly. Ric's heart stopped and she nodded at him to leave. He bolted up the stairs, the blood of Jo coating his shirt.

"Lizzie?" He hollered, opening the doors. "You guys can come out now, don't worry. Hide and seek is over." Ric searched every room and his heart dropped. The Gemini twins were gone.

"What happened?" Damon drawled on the line and Ric sighed. The phone was on the kitchen counter and Jo was recovering from the table knife wound on the chair. She was wincing but it didn't stop her from wanting her children back.

"It was Kai. He entered the house with Sybil and...Bonnie."

"Bonnie?" Damon's voice rose across the cellphone. "Are you completely positive that you haven't slammed your head? Bonnie would never help--"

"I've got the wounds to prove it, Damon. Now I want my twins back and you need to gather up everyone to find them. Sybil mentioned something about burrowing Lizzie and Josie to find Kathrine Pierce," Jo stressed out.

Damon sighed. "The equation is easy, Jo. Get dear old Papi Parker and all his other witch groups to find your girls. I'm more worried about BonBon."

Ric bent over the table, head pounding. "We can worry about her later. Right now, Lizzie and Josie are the number one priority, Damon. I know we've had our differences but this...this will make up for anything you owe me for."

"I'm on my way." The line ended and Jo and Ric's eyes connected. He approached her and took her head into his embrace.

"We'll find them," he reassured.

Caroline and Damon sat at the table. "That doesn't sound like Bonnie at all, she would never--"

"Of course she would never hurt the mini witches. Hell, she would never work beside Kai ever again, let alone help Sybil raise Kathrine Pierce. Now, the only options that are left are that Kai either brainwashed her or--"

"Sybil got into her head," Ric concluded. "Bonnie is not thinking for herself."

"Which is why she will use Josie and Lizzie to raise Kathrine. We need to find them before things get out of hand," Jo said.

"You need to rest Jo, I will handle this," Ric warned, urging her to remain on the couch.

"No. I will not sit by while Kai has my children," she stated.

Caroline bit her wrist and held it out for Jo. "Here."

Jo shook her head. "I want nothing to do with magic. After all that it's done..."

"Jo..." Ric sighed and she shook her head.

"Sorry to interrupt the trouble in paradise but do you hear that...?" Damon asked and the room quieted. "That's the sound of BonBon crying for help so let's get on our merry way."

"You forget that you're human," Caroline said, rolling her eyes. "I doubt fragile Damon will swoop in to save the day. Maybe you will be a Matt 2.0." She had lingered a bit after Bonnie told her to leave, just in case.

Damon slammed his hand on the table. "I tolerate you, blondie. But don't make me get up there and vervain you." Caroline chuckled to herself but remained silent. Damon calmed down and turned to Ric. "Jeremy is retrieving Stefan's body as we speak. As long as he is asleep, we'll be good."

"Then what do they need the twins for?" Ric demanded.

"Beats me, it's not like I took a course for witchy voodoo." Damon shrugged, sinking in his seat. At that moment, Damon's cell pinged and he slowly read it, cursing under his breath. "Jeremy says there's a tad complication with Stefan's body."
