dismantled bodies

The process was simple. All Kai had to do was use the soul that he had transferred into the stone to bring him to the hotspot each of the Heretics shared. Since they all had a connection to the Phoenix Stone, it should be quick. And once he reached the location, he would use Bonnie to summon the souls with a linkage spell, giving Kai enough time to transfer them back into the world. Kai also found the bones and remains of 3 of the Heretics, unaware of who was who, and placed each in a water tank. Once they were brought back, the witches who were chanting in the cabin were creating the perfect gate back to their original bodies.

Kai was already a step ahead, arriving at the hotspot. It seemed to be a deserted old park, the dark sky looming above the sweeping cold leaves. Bonnie hugged her jacket to herself, approaching a sign. It read Kirkwood Park, A Historical Landmark for the Property of Dante Secante. Bonnie wondered what was so important that all of the Heretics deemed it their hotspot.

Kai was busy using a thin stick to mark out the circle, drawing small symbols in the center. He pistoned candles into the soft soil, lighting them up when he said, "Incendia." He then turned to Bonnie, motioning for her to come over. Kai placed a pendant, a Christian Cross, in her grasp. "This was Lily's. I took it before we left the prison world and I assume that since she was the one to bring the whole family together, it'll help bring them back with a stronger source."

Bonnie nodded, closing her eyes and began to chant. "Maxime vocare domum."

Lightning crackled above them but Kai wasn't startled in the slightest. He was waiting for the signal to reach into the pockets of life, pulling back the ones he needed but it wasn't the time yet. Kai crouched in front of a symbol, tapping his shoes. This was the most he had been concentrated and he knew it was because in a situation like this, there was a lot to lose. The procedure was long and it was demanding.

"Maxime vocare domum," Bonnie chanted, hands fisted around the chain. Through her incantation, the sky started to thunder loudly, the bolts striking low into the ground. Fire started to form on trees and Bonnie started to shout louder. "Maxime vocare domum." In her palms, the metal sizzled in her hands. She opened her eyes, the tree closest to her setting aflame. "It's ready."

Kai sank his finger around one of the candles, drawing more markings. "Crucem mundi vita." The wind seemed to battle the fire, both elements crying over each other. Bonnie and Kai's hair got caught up in the whirlwind, flying frantically around their heads. Kai rose, spelling the incarnation even louder. "Crucem mundi vita." At that moment, his eyes switched like the shutters of a camera, and his pupils were all white. His shouts sank to a whisper and his hand slowly reached out in front of him. He seemed to be pulling something and after a couple of seconds, Kai's body vibrated and a gasp escaped his lips. He recited the spell again, voice thundering over the retreating storm. It all happened again, 2 more times and at the end of it, he fell to his knees.

Kai was panting, sweat beading over his forehead. Bonnie felt the pulsating magic retreat back and her legs wobbled, the fire and the wind retreating as well. She expected Kai to grunt as he rose but she felt like a fraud when he surfaced, laughing frantically.

"Got Elena, and the Heretics. Next step, BonBon. It's all falling into place."

Kai aimed to brush past her, on his way to the location he had stored the bodies but Bonnie jerked her hand out, gripping his arm with an iron-clad grip. "Just to make it clear, if you lay your hands on me the way you did at the wedding, I will dismantle your whole entire body."

Kai's grin stretched even further. "That kinda sounds hot. I might have to take you up on that, BonBon."

She rolled her eyes, walking ahead of him. And behind her, she felt the burning of his gaze taking in every curve she was walking away with.

3 water tanks were laid out, sitting next to each other. Bonnie approached the first one, fingers brushing the ice-cold water. Inside, she could make out the bones at the bottom of the tub, beige and crusty.

"When one wakes up, I take my share and you can be left with the remaining," Kai said, leaning against the wall as he watched Bonnie twirl her finger in the water.

"I think Valerie will want to come back once she realizes her siblings are back in town," she said more to herself. The water was slowly turning translucent. Bonnie shook her head. "And what happens to the stone?"

"I still have an agenda, one that is none of your business, nosy pants." Kai clicked his tongue, pushing off the wall. He made to examine the other two metal tanks, staring at his reflection.

"What happened to transferring Elena's soul to one of Heretics?" She remembered when he explained the process the day she returned back to Mystic Falls and he was held captive.

Kai sighed. "I obviously lied, I had to get you guys to want to help me someway. But you read right through it and I had to force your hand. Anyways, if I had put the bad part of Elena's soul in the Heretic, when he died from the torment, her memories--the ones we all had to survive through--would get wiped away. I doubt Elena would be okay with that but I don't know her at all beyond killing her."

Bonnie scoffed. "Of course you would know about lost memories. I'm starting to think it's your specialty."

"If you were in my position, you would understand."

Bonnie stared into his eyes. "No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't understand why you're going to extreme lengths just to get my attention. Why won't you move on? What makes me so special that you have to...fight everyone around me because you think they'll harm me? I don't understand why--"

She was interrupted, the jolt of the ice water splashing over her shirt. The hand in the tub reached for her, gripping Bonnie's arm with persistence. The hand was feminine, smooth and slightly tanned but pale at the same time. Nora pulled herself up, gasping back her stolen air. Her hair was extremely damp, sticking to her skin. Even though the water was glacial, there was no sign of trembling from the Heretic. "Bonnie," she rasped.

Her brown eyes were wide, searching the unfamiliar room. In Nora's sitting position, it was apparent that she was nude. Bonnie shrugged away the supernatural grip.

"Where is Mary Louise?" Was the first thing she demanded.
