chaotically beautiful

Hope bounced on her own leg, a bright smile upon her face as if she knew the tale was about her. Bonnie laughed, enjoying the sight of it. Hope seemed to stumble, nearly falling face-first on the floor if it wasn't for Bonnie. Her hand jerked out to grab the child and before she could hoist her up, Bonnie gasped.

Her head was thrown back, pupils blanched completely white and her eyesight shifted. She wasn't at the compound anymore, she was in darkness. A darkness that altered itself over the images playing in her mind. A salt circle, a branch and six coffins. Bonnie began to seize as the vision went into more detail. The lip motion of witches chanting, magic circling in the air. The skin of desiccated vampires, a white oak branch sitting in the center of the salt circle.

Hope was wailing, the room shaking as she watched Bonnie try to overcome the vivid vision.

Vampires tried to enter the room but the moment they stepped in, a wave of magic pushed them back. Whether it was from Hope or Bonnie, they did not know. Kai appeared seconds later, safely planting himself at Bonnie's sides. He grabbed her shoulder, shaking her restlessly. "BonBon."

She snatched his arm with persistence, eyes wide. "The Mikaelson family will fall, one by friend, one by foe and one by family."

She gasped as the vision lifted, panting breathlessly. Bonnie fell into Kai's arm, the oxygen knocked out of her lungs.

By the time Bonnie returned back to her senses, night had already fallen. She rose up on the large unfamiliar bed and remembered she was still at the compound. Her head began to hammer mightily and she groaned when she blinked a couple of times. And then her vision fell on Kai who was standing at the edge of the bed, arms crossed and wearing a frown. "What happened?"

The memories came flooding back and Bonnie adjusted herself uncomfortably. "I—"

"Today was supposed to be your birthday."

"I know—"

"The apartment was supposed to give you time to rest."

"I know—"

"And look what happened."

"I know, Kai," Bonnie snapped sharply.

He shook his head and watched as she climbed out of the bed. "Except you don't. You don't see how you look, you're exhausted. It's their fault that you can't even think about having one day to yourself—"

"It was just a vision," Bonnie groaned, running a stressed hand through her hair. One by friend, one by foe, one by family. Another threat.

Kai chuckled. "Oh we will talk about that later," he scoffed and pulled out tickets from his pockets and threw them on the covers. "But I think we need to take Cami's gift and get out of town for a bit."

"Are you crazy? What do you mean 'we'll talk about it later'? You know my visions are warnings of awful events about to happen. We can't just leave town. Matter of fact, I don't plan to leave any time soon. I'm happy here."

Kai snorted, shaking his head. "You're not happy, you're worn out."

Bonnie sighed and turned to him, tucking her arms inside of the shirt she realized was his. "Fine, you're right. But it's not because of the Mikaelson's."

"Then what is it?" Kai took a worrying step towards her. Bonnie swallowed and averted her eyes. "You said no more lies."

Bonnie took a deep breath and forced herself to look him in the eye. His grey orbs seeped into hers, waiting for her to start. "I..." How do I tell him? How do I tell him that I can't have his children, that I'm worthless if I can't provide him the one thing he wants, that I can't offer one of the few things that brighten his day? How do I say it and not fear that he'll actually cheat on me this time? "I know the Initial Conjuration."

"What?" His face creased in confusion at that, not expecting the sudden confession. "How? You need—"

"Years of practice, I know. But when Hayley died...." The recollection was painful enough. "I went to a place and I met this woman. Aithne, the first witch of New Orleans. She was an ancestor but she was against what they were doing so since she was the creator, she just...hand-delivered it." Half-truth.

"No price?"

Bonnie couldn't look him in the eye as she repeated, "No price." Complete lie.

Kai tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and cupped her cheek. "Okay, then I think I should tell you that I learned it too. At least a bit of it."

Bonnie snapped her neck back up at him with utter shock. "What?"

Kai shrugged. "Remember the girl you thought I was cheating with? That was Sophie Devereux. She was teaching me some tricks."

"You said no more lying," Bonnie scoffed.

"It wasn't lying if you never asked."

Bonnie rolled her eyes. "No price? She just happened to want to teach you?"

Other than the fact that she wanted the Mikaelson's in return. "No price," Kai said. It never crossed Bonnie's mind that he was in the same position. It would break their trust if she found out that he was willing to trade her family, the people she learned to care for, just to save her. He should have known by now that it wasn't the type of affection she wanted. Kai grabbed her hand, pulling her back to him. "Let's get off this topic and continue what we started."

Bonnie chuckled, resting her head against his chest before looking up at him. "I love you," she muttered.

Kai grinned and hooked his hands beneath her back thighs, heaving her onto his hips. "I love you," he responded and sank into the bed.

*

Bonnie lay above the arm that wrapped around her to pull her close, hours and minutes ticking by. Kai was shirtless and his other hand was tucked behind his head. They stared at the ceiling in the comfortable silence before Kai muttered, "I was thinking. We've been together for 5 months, right?"

"Please tell me that is a joke. We've been together for 5 months and 12 days," Bonnie corrected with slight irritation.

Kai chuckled. "5 months, 12 days, 7 hours, and 34 minutes, BonBon. I'm no amateur." He caressed her skin in a way that made her shiver with pleasure. "But...what do you say to having mini- Malachai's running around New Orleans? Sounds chaotically beautiful." Bonnie paled and Kai adjusted himself to face her. "I know it's too soon but I also know that I want this forever. I know I'm not going anywhere and if you think about it, the kid could play around with Hope. You and Hayley would be closer—"

"Kai," Bonnie swallowed, turning her away. The growing ache of uselessness tripled its size. You're not going anywhere? You will when you find out. You'll go and find someone else who can give you the mini-Malachai's.

"You hate the idea," he sighed and watched as she slipped out of bed, trying to find clothes.

"I don't hate the idea...you're just right, it's too soon." Bonnie threw the grey shirt over her head and pulled some jeans on.

Kai sank back into the pillows and shrugged. "Worth the try. But when the time finally comes, I was thinking we should name the boy Zaine or Apollo. Definitely not Oliver. Or nothing with an O for that matter. And the girl Kaya, Briar or Alina."

Bonnie sucked on her teeth and tried to shake the tears away. She didn't even say anything when she swung the door open and left the room.
