"These are insanely good," Kai muttered, shoving the handful of potato chips in his mouth, sitting between Jeremy and Matt. Ric was in shotgun, sending texts to Jo and Bonnie was driving.
"That's what you say about every single thing at the Mystic Grill," Matt said annoyed, eyes not even drifting to Kai in the slightest.
Kai slowly turned his head towards the dirty blonde boy. "Did you just fat shame me? Murder is like these potato chips, Matt, because you can't stop with just one. Right now, I'm imagining the life seep out of your eyes. Quite beautiful, actually."
Matt didn't respond and Kai was moments on pouncing until Bonnie gassed the pedal, sending him far into the seat.
"Sit down and shut up. I don't know about you but I will happily drive off a cliff to avoid listening to you for any longer," Bonnie threatened. Like the typical humans they were, Jeremy, Ric and Matt gripped their seats for stability.
Kai laughed. "Ooh, BonBon. Rough. I like it. Careful, you might just turn up like me."
Bonnie tightened her grip on the wheel, staring at the road and addressed Ric. "We're almost at the motel."
*
Bonnie killed the gas, swinging out the vehicle before slamming the door behind her.
"We leave at first dawn, Jeremy, keep tabs on Damon and Caroline. Matt, make sure the car has enough gas for tomorrow." Ric tossed the keys at him and Matt groaned.
Kai stepped out of the car, stretching like a child and yawned. He ran a hand through his hair, staring into the empty street. He then turned to the group, smiling as he always does. "I'm sleeping with Bonnie. Not in that way of course, but we love our double meaning. Unless..."
"Let me guess, you sleep with a nightlight too?" Bonnie rolled her eyes.
"How did you know? Ah, why am I shocked, you know me better than anyone. Our time in the prison world..." He trailed off as Bonnie followed Jeremy to the receptionist. His eyes narrowed at the proximity of the two.
Ric grabbed Kai by the shoulder, dragging him along. Kai shrugged him off, cracking the bone in his neck. "Kill me, and she will never even speak to you," he said as if he read Kai's mind.
Kai did not respond.

Bonnie arranged her bed on the uncomfortable couch, switching the TV off. Kai was in the shower, singing Grenade by Bruno Mars. Bonnie was inclined to buy earplugs.
He opened the door, whistling to the tune. His hair was still wet and he had a pair of bright blue pants, little teddy bears sprinkled around with a dark blue cotton t-shirt. He jumped on the bed and stared at Bonnie who ignored him. "Tuck me in, BonBon."
Bonnie contemplated it and then rose. Kai smiled to himself, glad that they had broken a barrier, rebuilding their relationship. He got comfortable, waiting for her warm soft hands. Bonnie was neutral as she approached him. But she didn't move to touch him whatsoever when she reached his edge of the bed. She simply froze.
"What--"
He was cut off when Bonnie snatched the pillow at his side, quickly muffling his face. She pressed it into his face, feeling him writhe under her. Bonnie was restless, her eyes wide as she felt him getting closer and closer to the end. But in the final moments, she pulled away, out of breath. Kai was panting, his hair dishevelled and his cheeks red.
"I call that tucking you to death," she spat, turning away back to the couch.
Kai was speechless, watching the vixen cover herself from the night cold. He threw the cursed pillow on the floor. "I sometimes underestimate you, even without magic. Lumina." The lights switched off. But moments later, he whispered them on and he was suddenly in front of Bonnie. She nearly jumped out of her soul. "Wait, why are you the one sleeping on the couch? Whether I'm on there or not, you're sleeping on the bed."
Bonnie pouted. "Aw, you've suddenly decided to show some human decency?"
"Only for you, BonBon. Just you." The amused tone of his must have been his signature because Bonnie was starting to get used to it. Bonnie angrily threw the covers back and walked to the bed, slipping easily in. Kai settled into her previous place, savouring her smell. He sighed comfortably and switched the light off for good.
*
Bonnie felt herself waking up slowly, the sunrise beginning outside. She rolled to the other side, attempting to stretch her body awake until she felt a hard surface. She froze, her mind trying to piece together what could be in bed with her.
Bonnie's head rose slowly, prepared for the worse. And boy was she.
Kai was snoring at the other end of the bed, cuddling with his own arms. Bonnie couldn't help but scream, shaking him awake.
Kai jumped, with alert. "What is it? Who is it? Where?"
Bonnie scrambled from the bed, grabbing the lamp on her way to the floor. "What. Are. You. Doing. IN BED WITH ME?"
Kai sighed, dropping back to the sheets. He placed a hand to his forehead dramatically. "I had a nightmare. Only, it wasn't was as cliche and you didn't wake to soothe me. Then I realized you'd probably be friends with my nightmare so I...well, slipped into bed with you. And you know, you instantly cuddled with me. Very soft, very warm. We stayed like that for...30 ish 40 minutes? Then I thought, damn, if she woke up to this, she'd cut me. To chicken pieces. So I tried to keep boundaries and my goal was to leave before you woke up but--"
Bonnie threw the lamp at his head, the metal object hitting the headboard as Kai dodged. "I can't believe I was stupid enough to think you would respect me."
"I did. I didn't touch you, you touched me."
"Shut up, Kai," Bonnie yelled, slamming the door to the bathroom and Kai only stared.
Bonnie slid against the door, her head against the wooden slab. She felt the pang of tears prick her eyes and she let them fall, the clear droplets sliding down her face. They were silent and rapid and Bonnie held a hand to her chest, wanting to see Enzo more than ever. Maybe Elena, so that her best friend could explain to her what she was feeling. Because through the pain, the anger, the fear of being with Kai Parker, it must have been a mistake if she also felt...desire? It was very faint, not nearly as strong as the need to break his neck but it was there. Bonnie gripped the roots of her hair, the tears like glass and leaving wounds behind. She felt like she was betraying Enzo in a way and it hurt even more. A couple of seconds later, the crying stopped and she only kept her gaze ahead, floating to another plane. Bonnie remained like that for a long time until there was a faint knock. She shook awake, scrambling from the floor.
"Bonnie?" Matt's voice said through the door. "We're ready to leave, Ric wants to stop for breakfast at a diner close by."
Bonnie nodded, later realizing that he couldn't see her. She sniffed, clearing her throat. "Will be there in 10."
Matt's footsteps faded and Bonnie took a hot searing shower to try and mask the feeling she was so afraid of. Holy water, she called it.
