Ric drove them, a short 5 minutes across the street, and it was silent. Surprisingly, Kai had shut up but it was only because he dozed off. He was snoring on Jeremy's shoulder and Bonnie could tell Jeremy had a lot of self-restraint.
"Did he bother you at all?" Ric said, throwing her side glance before parking the car in the lot.
Bonnie hesitated, deciding to answer, "No," before she stepped out of the car. The other 3 jumped out, Kai yawning.
"I'm ready for some scrambled eggs, orange juice, sizzling bacon and sausages." He grinned, rubbing his hands together with anticipation.
Matt rolled his eyes and led them into the building.
The lady sat them at a table and took their orders. Kai laid back against the booth while Matt sat next to him, Jeremy beside Bonnie, and Ric speaking to the manager for directions.
Kai turned to Matt. "So is there a soon-to-be Miss Donavon? Or are you going to be leading the single life forever? To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised, you're as stuck up as ever. I heard Kathrine Pierce had feelings for you at some point?" He laughed. "Embarrassing for her."
"You don't need to know what goes on in our lives. We're using you as a backup but once you prove to be dead weight, you're out," Jeremy seethed, placing a fist on the counter. "We will never forgive you for what you did to Elena."
Kai's laugh rose. "You're mad that I killed Elena? Weren't you a Hunter, one of the 5? The urge to kill your sister at one glance? If only you were older, I would have been a Jereyna stan." It was quiet as Kai waited for them to fill the blanks. Nothing. "What? Rayna and Jeremy. You know, since it's both their...occupation to kill vampires?"
Nobody spoke and Bonnie found herself scratching wood off the table. "You sure know a lot of history on us. Stalker much?"
"Well, I had to keep an eye on you somehow. You may trust these idiots but I don't. It's easy to betray each other."
"Takes one backstabber to know one right? You see, Kai, that is difference between you and I. I never have to worry about my friends betraying me...you on the other hand...you don't even have friends to betray you."
"I prefer it that way."
"No you don't, otherwise, you wouldn't be here. Otherwise, you'd kill Matt and everyone else. You are longing for the feeling of belonging somewhere. Did so when you assassinated your family who neglected you. You even felt that when we were hiking for the cure. And you are now. The pattern is death around you, Kai. But what I want to know is..." Bonnie lowered her voice, leaning forward. "What caused you to snap in that cave? Witches don't have a humanity switch and even if you did, you wouldn't care if I lived or died."
"It hurts me to see you like this, BonBon. I am not a case for you to crack. However close you think you are understanding me is just sending you further away. You don't have to waste your energy trying to change me. Now, where is my breakfast? Y'all don't want to see me cranky," he warned glancing up just in time for the server to arrive with plates of food.
She placed all four full plates in front of them, Ric nowhere to be seen. Bonnie let her gaze wander around the diner to find him until the server began to cough blood, gripping the table. The three of them, excluding Kai, glancing at her in worry.
"Hey, are you okay?" Matt asked, concerned.
She couldn't even respond, a vein popping in her head and her face turning red quickly. Kai dug into his meal, spooning eggs into his mouth. He cut the bacon and placed them in his tongue, savouring every taste with a grunt. He nodded to her, taking a sip of the orange juice to wash it down. "I gotta give it to you, this is wonderful. Such as shame the service was terrible, I don't think I'm a patient person."
Bonnie's eyes widened, realizing that this was his doing. "Stop it, Kai."
Kai shrugged, scarfing down the sausages and the toast with eagerness. "What? I'm giving her an upfront experience on how a brain can liquify. Think of it as a tip for her tardiness."
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Jeremy jumped from his seat, Kai barely flinching back. He simply continued enjoying his meal as the lady fell to the floor, her mouth and nose leaking with dark blood.
"Nothing. I just want to enjoy my breakfast, is that so wrong?" He said, feigning innocence. Kai was quickly done, glancing at Bonnie's untouched plate. "You gonna finish that?"
Bonnie shook her head slowly in disgust. Matt and Jeremy hadn't touched their food either, alert in their seats. "I lost my appetite."
"Fantastic. More for me." He grabbed her plate, sliding it all into his. He even took her juice, his own gone in seconds. "Give me a sec and we'll be ready to go."
Soon, Kai burped, finishing. Matt and Jeremy were already heading out of the diner. Ric was already out, frantically speaking the phone. On the way out, Kai made a show to open the door for Bonnie. She paused and stared at him. "What is it with your sudden obsession with me?"
Kai sighed, still holding the door. "It's just when I look at you...there's like this burning in my chest? I don't know how to explain it but it's strong. I like the pain and I realize it's only when I'm around you. Figured if I keep you around, this pain can fuel my energy."
Bonnie blinked. "So you keep me around to use me?'
Kai frowned, in thought. "Well, I wouldn't put it like that. It's a mutual relationship. I get to feel the ache in my chest and you get to see my face." He grinned.
Bonnie rolled her eyes, stepping out of the diner once and for all. "We have no sort of relationship, not even friendship or whatever delusional fantasies you've conjured up in your messed up head. We're using you."
Kai shrugged, walking side by side. "Think of it whatever way you want, BonBon."
Ric angrily hung the phone up and Bonnie noticed. "What's wrong?"
Ric inhaled and exhaled, turning to her. "Jo just called to say that Lizzie siphoned off her."
"What? How can she do that, Jo does not have magic."
"That's what I gotta figure out. Jo's hurt when she shouldn't be hurt."
"It's fine, go." Bonnie glanced at Kai, who was watching the exchange silently, as if in thought.
"I don't know--"
"Kai's not stupid enough to hurt me, Jeremy was an ex-hunter and Matt has managed to survive this long without dying like the rest of us. We can handle him." Bonnie held her hand out for the keys in which Ric threw at her.
"I'll catch a car back and let me know if anything happens. I'll call once I arrive back in Mystic Falls and you call when you arrive in Georgia," Ric instructed and Bonnie nodded. Soon, he was gone, leaving the four alone.
"Shotgun!" Kai yelled suddenly with a mischievous grin. Bonnie scoffed and jumped into the truck, starting the engine.
