Techno POV
Tommy had been acting weird lately. For one he was using his facecam less and less, which wouldn't be that strange if Tommy wasn't always so insistent in everyone using their facecam. I couldn't help but worry especially as things got weirder.
He was always so quick to mute his mic as soon as his parents left the room and he was always gone for a long time. He always came up with excuses, saying he had to go to the bathroom or his parents wanted him to do chores. But I never missed how raw and scratchy his voice was, almost like he had been crying.
One night I couldn't take it, I decided to bring it up to Wilbur and Phil. I messaged them to stay in the call after Tommy went to bed.
"So what's up Tech? Why did you want us to stick around?" Wilbur questioned, yawning.
I took a deep breath, rubbing my temples. "Something's wrong with Tommy."
Immediately the two stiffened, their eyes wide. Whatever they had been expecting, this certainly wasn't it.
Wilbur looked extremely distraught, paling. "What do you mean, something's wrong with Tommy?"
"Have you noticed how nervous he seems? Especially when his parents come? He's so quick to mute and he doesn't come back for a while." I explained, hoping I was wrong with what I was thinking. Was he being hurt by his parents? I could only pray the answer was no.
"He did mention his anxiety has gotten worse..." Wilbur commented, lost in thought.
"What do you suspect is happening?" Phil asked, staring at me blankly.
I sighed, biting my lip. I didn't want to be right. Heck, I didn't even want to say it aloud, that would make it real. "I think he's being abused..."
The two froze, their eyes even wider.
"You can't be serious." Wilbur gasped, his hand covering his mouth.
"I hope I'm wrong." I shook my head, wanting to ignore the bad feeling that filled my stomach. "But I have a feeling I'm not."
"What do we do?" Wilbur whimpered, his eyes growing glassy.
"We need to talk to Tommy." Phil spoke, his voice shaking a bit.
"But he's probably sleeping." I began, remembering how dark the bags under his eyes had become. Sleep was something the kid desperately needed.
"If you're right then the sooner we get him out of there the better."
I nodded, "I'll talk to him." I left the call, ringing Tommy from my phone. The phone rang and rang, waiting for any response. My heart nearly stopped when I heard him pick up.
"Hello?" he whispered, his voice barely loud enough for the phone to pick up.
"Toms, are you okay?" I whispered back, feeling like something was wrong. The blonde was always loud. For him to be practically silent was off-putting. Something was wrong.
Tommy seemed to be breathing very heavily, like he had just run a marathon. "I-I need help Techno- Pl-lease help me-please." he begged, his breathing speeding up more and more.
I jumped from my chair, rushing to grab my keys. I had never been so thankful to have moved to the UK. I was fairly close to where Tommy lived, maybe twenty minutes away. I've never moved so quickly in my life, quickly driving our of my driveway.
"Tommy I'm coming, I'll be there as soon as I can. Try to calm down, can you do that for me Toms?" I spoke softly, trying to keep my voice as calm as possible. I knew the calmer I was, the better off he would be.
Tommy struggled on the phone, seemingly trying to relax his breathing. "It's not working T-Techno! I can't-"
"In and out, in and out." I said, breathing in deeply before exhaling. My panic eased a little as I heard him attempting to copy my breathing. "That's it Toms, that's it."
I continued to drive, offering soft reassurances as often as I could. I had never sped so fast in my life, getting there in ten minutes instead of twenty. As soon as I shifted the car into park, I jumped out, rushing to the front door.
His parents were gone, much to my annoyance. I probably would have pounded them into the floor if I saw them.
I slipped out my key, something I had only for emergencies. My hands shook as I pushed the door open, rushing into the house.
"Tommy? Tommy where are you?" I called, stopping for a response.
A whimper came from down the hall and I took no time in hesitating before racing towards it. My heart nearly stopped as I saw Tommy curled up on the floor, still gasping for breath.
I knelt beside him, grabbing his hand and placing it on my chest. "Focus Toms, focus. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out." I said, continuing to whisper to him.
Thankfully a few minutes passed and Tommy finally regained control of his lungs. I was quick to pull him into my arms, holding him tightly. "I got you, I'm here Toms." I whispered into his mop of blonde hair. Tommy began to sob into my shoulder, gripping my shirt tightly.
I held him close to my chest, waiting until he calmed down a bit. He pulled out of my chest, finally looking up at me with watery eyes.
"I-I'm sorry-"
"Don't be." I wiped a remaining tear away with my thumb. "What happened?" I asked softly, waiting patiently for an answer.
He looked down, beginning to dig his nails into his palms. I quickly grabbed them, stopping him from hurting himself. He took a deep breath, finally looking up at me. "They wanted my money... the stuff I earned-d and I-" he paused, taking another deep breath to prevent him from bursting into tears. "I refused..." Tears began to fill his eyes once more as he appeared to remember what had happened. "H-He hit me... I-I. Did I do something wrong? D-Does he not love me anymore?"
My heart broke at his words. "No Toms, no. You listen to me." I gently cupped his face. "You did nothing wrong. They were in the wrong, not you. No one should ever hit you, no matter what."
He nodded, leaning back into my touch. I was quick to pull him closer to my chest, wanting to protect him from the cruel world. He should never have to deal with stuff like this. He should be a teenager, doing stupid things. Gifting the world with his stupid laugh that you couldn't help but smirk at. Why did he have to deal with stuff like this?
"Where do I-I go now?" he whispered into my chest.
"You can come live with me." I offered, gently picking him up. His arms wrapped around my neck. "I'll keep you safe."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
I held true to my word, even as the years went by.
No one would ever lay a finger on my Tommy.
