Wilbur POV
Was he mad at me? Wilbur wondered, watching after him. He stood there, trying to think of what he could possibly done to cause Tommy to be so upset. When he couldn't come up with anything, he was even more puzzled. Why was Tommy upset?
"He already misses you." a voice arose from behind him. Wilbur turned to see Phil in the doorway, looking at him with a sad smile.
"But I'm still here." Wilbur replied, glancing at the man with confusion. "I haven't left yet." How could Tommy already miss him?
"But you are leaving." Phil explained, walking towards his son. "It's a big adjustment for him. Especially with both of you growing up. I don't think you realize how important you are to him. My guess is, he's scared of losing you."
"He wasn't like this for Techno." the brunette thought aloud, thinking back to a year prior. Tommy had been sad of course, but a simple promise to call every few days had stopped the tears. Why was this different?
"I think he was." Phil paused, thinking for a moment. "The only difference is, he had you."
Wilbur sighed, running a hand though his messy hair. The more he thought about it, the more it began to make sense. "He does realize that I won't be that far, right? I'll be coming home all the time to visit-"
"But you won't always be here." Phil interrupted, trying to make him understand. He had gone through the same thing with his own sister at the same age. He knew exactly what it was like. And he also knew that they would get through it.
"I didn't realize he would be this upset." Wilbur admitted, looking down the hall. "I just figured he would be happy to get a bigger room." Taking the responsibility of being the older brother, he spoke up, "I'm going to go talk to him." He moved towards the blonde's room, brushing past Phil. As he made his way down the hall, he stopped abruptly. Was Tommy crying?
His eyes widened as it truly hit him. Tommy really did love him. His heart saddened at the thought of leaving his little brother. It almost felt like he was leaving behind. He took a deep breath, pushing his emotions aside, and softly knocked on the door.
"Leave-e me alone." a voice cracked, barely audible.
Rolling his eyes, Wilbur pushed the door open and entered the room. "I can't do that Toms. I promised I would always look after you, right?" His heart broke at the sight of his little brother reduced to tears.
"But you're not always gonna be here..." Tommy looked up at him with teary eyes.
Wilbur shook his head, approaching the blonde. He held his arms out, inviting the broken boy into the safety of his embrace. Tommy didn't hesitate to tackle the brunette in a hug, nearly knocking the older over. The boy sobbed into his chest, clinging to him like a lifeline. And in a way, he almost was a lifeline, at least to Tommy. Threading his fingers through his messy, golden hair, Wilbur murmured, "I'll never really leave you Toms. I'm just moving out, but that doesn't mean I'm moving on. I could never move on without you."
"But what if you forget me?" Tommy sniffed, looking up at him. Wilbur felt his heart break even more, if that was even possible. Did Tommy really think that he could ever forget him?
"Forget you?" Wilbur repeated, shaking his head. "How could I ever forget my loud, annoying, sweet, little brother?" He pressed a kiss to the boy's forehead, still holding him close. "I could never forget you Toms, never."
"Promise?"
"I promise." Wilbur vowed, smiling at the blonde fondly. An idea came to his mind. "How about we go hangout in my room? I'll bring my guitar and sing to you. Or we can do whatever you want. I just don't want to leave you alone Toms."
"I don't ever want you to leave Wilby."
Wilbur's heart melted as he awed. How could Tommy be so wholesome without even trying? For once, he chose not to make fun of the new nickname. He didn't want to risk making the blonde more upset than he already was. He had cried enough for the both of them. If he was really being honest, he kind of liked the nickname.
Wilbur stood up, bringing his brother with him. He kept his arm tightly around Tommy, allowing the boy to bury himself in the older's embrace. He walked towards his room which, luckily, was right next door. Approaching the door, he opened it and brought Tommy inside.
Tommy lifted his head up, taking a look around the hollow room. Looking around the empty space, he burst into another wave of tears. How the kid still had any tears left, Wilbur would never understand. The older wrapped his arms around him, resting his chin on the blonde's head.
"Please don't leave me." Tommy begged, gripping his sweater in his fists.
"I won't. I'll always come back." he reassured, rubbing his back. Slowly, he guided them to the bed. He adjusted Tommy so that they were both comfortable, continuing to whisper soft reassurances.
Tommy finally began to calm down after a few minutes. He could barely keep his eyes open, but he didn't seem to want to sleep. Wilbur carefully placed Tommy next to him on the bed, sitting up to grab his guitar. Instantly Tommy tried to grab him back, but Wilbur didn't let him.
"I'll be right back." he promised, hating the worry in those blue eyes. "I'm just going to grab my guitar, alright?"
Tommy hesitantly nodded, allowing his arms to fall to his sides. He curled up on the bed, closing his eyes for a moment.
Wilbur walked across the room, grabbing his guitar before sitting beside Tommy again. Tommy scooted closed to him, leaning his head on Wilbur's shoulder.
Without a word, Wilbur began to play, hoping to lure Tommy to sleep. He could tell Tommy was exhausted from all the crying. The notes were soft and majestic, a perfect lullaby for the teen. In a few minutes Tommy was snoring beside him, much to Wilbur's amusement.
Putting his guitar aside, he laid beside Tommy. Bringing the blonde into a hug, he pressed a brotherly kiss to the boy's forehead. Closing his eyes, he whispered. "I love you so much Toms. I'll never move on without you."
