Rowan POV
Rowan sighed, leaning against the couch. She closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the peace it supplied.
A knock on the door made her open her eyes. Slowly she stood up, dragging her feet to the front door. She opened the door only to be engulfed by a hug.
"Ro!" the brunette exclaimed, hugging her tightly. Rowan smiled, hugging back with equally as much force. What would she ever do without Lani?
"Hey Lani."
Lani pulled back, meeting her eyes. "How have you been?" she asked softly.
The two girls had grown close since their brothers had moved. They hung out nearly every moment they could, just enjoying each other's company.
"As good as I can be I guess." Rowan shrugged, looking away.
Lani nodded understandingly. "I get it." Grabbing Rowan's hand, she lead her into the house and into the kitchen.
Rowan looked at her in confusion. "What? Are you already hungry?"
"No, but you are."
Rowan shifted uncomfortably, not meeting her eyes. "I already ate."
Lani sighed. "Look, you and I both know you're lying. Besides, you really don't want to try some of my world famous pasta?" Rowan opened her mouth to respond. "I've been practicing! Please at least try some!"
Rowan bit her lip. She hesitated before agreeing. "Alright, but I'm really not hungry."
Lani beamed at her words. "Yay!"
Rowan shook her head, trying to hide the smile on her face. She couldn't help it, Lani's happiness was contagious.
Immediately Lani set to making pasta, preparing a pot and pan. She glanced towards Rowan. "Why don't you go take a nap? You look like you could fall over at any moment."
"I don't want to..." Rowan huffed, biting her lip. She hated sleeping, especially without Tommy home.
Lani chuckled, "You really are Tommy's sister."
"What do you mean?"
"You're just as clingy as him." she laughed.
"I am not!" Rowan shouted, pretending to be annoyed.
"Sure, sure. Just go sleep. I'll wake you up when it's ready."
"Fine." Rowan rolled her eyes, heading towards her room. She laid down on her bed, instantly falling asleep.
----------------
Rowan gasped, waking up in a cold sweat. Tears dripped down her face. Stop thinking about him, she begged herself. She didn't want to cry more than she already was.
Lani gently knocked on her door. Immediately she wiped her face, trying to blink away the coming tears. Slowly the door swung open as Lani came into view. "Ro-" she stopped, her eyes wide. "Ro are you okay?" she exclaimed, rushing to her side.
"I-I miss him!" Rowan sobbed, bursting into tears. Quickly Lani brought her into her arms, whispering soft reassurances.
"It will be okay, Ro. You've still got me. Now and always." Lani held her tightly.
"D-Does he hate me? What d-did I do?"
Lani sighed, wishing she could make it all better. "He's just busy, I'm sure he's still thinking about you Ro."
"But Tubbo still calls you! A-And he's busy! How is Tommy any different?" she cried, burying her face in her friend's shoulder.
"Calm down Ro, just take a deep breath." Lani whispered, still holding her tightly.
Rowan tried to follow her words, but taking a deep breath became an impossible task. "I-I can't-t-" she panted, her eyes wide with panic.
Lani pulled away, grabbing her hands firmly in her own. "Breathe with me." she said, gently rubbing her knuckle with her thumb. "In and out... in and out." she breathed deeply, continuing to calm Rowan down.
A few moments passed before Rowan finally regained control of her breathing. She collapsed in Lani's arms, exhausted from the panic. "Sleep, I'll still be here."
Without another thought Rowan fell asleep once more.
-----------------
"She needs you."
"I know."
Rowan knew that voice. But it was too good to be true.
Was Tommy really home?
