Tommy POV

I could still remember the moment I found him, nothing more than a scared child in the woods. I had been on my way home when I heard a terrified cry.

Looking towards it, I saw him. Small and terrified. His skin was the color of night with his eyes a bright amber. His shirt was torn in many places along with his pants, making him shiver. I had never seen a child so scared before. Somehow it almost reminded me of myself.

Slowly I approached him, making sure he could see what I was doing clearly. "Hey, are you okay?" I said softly.

The child cried out in fear, putting up his hands in defense. That's when I realized he thought I was going to hurt him. Had he been hurt before? The thought made me boil with rage. Who could ever hurt this child?

"I'm not going to hurt you." I whispered, kneeling down to his height.

Again he cowered away, his amber eyes wide.

I held my hand out slowly to him, "I want to help you." I offered a small smile, making sure that he knew that I wasn't lying.

The child studied me for a moment before extending his hand to take mine. Carefully I helped him to his feet.

"What's your name?" I asked gently, smiling.

"Shroud."

From that moment on my life was changed forever. We both got something we had both dreamed of. He got someone to love him and look after him. While I got someone to protect.

I smiled as I remembered all our memories. I couldn't wait to return home to spend more time with him. Swinging my bag of supplies over my shoulder, I began to head back to the house. I knew how much he hated being alone, so I made sure to make my trips as short as possible.

Arriving home, I pushed the door open, calling out, "Shroud! I'm home!" Silence replied, much to my surprise. Shroud always came to greet me when I returned, practically gluing himself to my side.

Dropping my bag, I moved into the living room. My eyes widened at the sight in front of me. The room was completely in disarray. Furniture was overturned and glass covered the floor. My heart began to beat quicker and quicker. Where was Shroud?

That's when I saw the note taped to the wall.

Tommy,

You really thought you were safe? You really thought we would just let you go? We have your precious little son. It's only a matter of time before we kill him. Don't worry, we'll be sure to give you the body so you can bury him.

-Niki and Jack

The rage that filled me was something I had never felt before. How dare they touch my son. I immediately crumbled up the note, ripping it to shreds.

Oh they were going to pay.

Slipping out my communicator, I clicked on Niki's contact. "You better pick up the phone." I growled as the it continued to vibrate. Finally the call stopped. She hadn't answered. "NIKI! PICK UP THE FUCKING PHONE! YOU SON OF A BITCH! WHERE IS MY SON!" I screamed, beginning to pull at my blonde hair.

I could only see red, not that I really cared. No one hurts my son and gets away with it. I was going to kill them with my bare hands.

I quickly left my house, immediately heading towards Niki's old lair. I knew exactly where she lived, since I had been tracking her for months. I knew she was still after me and I knew she was going to strike. But I had no idea she would go after my son.

Slipping inside the hideout I hear whimpers and cries. Shroud. Immediately I picked up my pace, rushing inside with my sword withdrawn. What I saw made me fume rage.

Shroud was tied to a chair, sobbing his eyes out. His cries were muffled by a cloth tied stuffed in his mouth. Blood dripped down his face, coming from a cut on his head. His body was filled with dark bruises.

How dare they even lay a finger on him.

"You are both fucking dead." I snarled as I watched both of them turn to me.

"Tommy! You didn't tell me you had a freak living in your house." Niki chuckled, making Shroud whimper.

"He's not a freak."

"Then what is he?" Jack folded his arms.

"He's my son." I glared at him, tightening the grip on my sword. "Get away from him."

Niki laughed, unsheathing her own sword. "Jack finish the job. I'll deal with him."

Jack hesitantly nodded, looking towards the child. Shroud's eyes widened as he saw his sword. Jack started towards the boy, making me rush towards Niki.

"You are so dead." I hissed as our swords clashed.

"You sound like Technoblade." Niki smirked. "Too bad you're not as scary as him."

Quickly I dragged her towards the ground, holding the blade to throat. "I'm much scarier." I whispered with smile. Without a moment of hesitation I slit her throat, getting to my feet to go save my son.

Jack's back was turned to me as he continued to torture Shroud. I took no time in stabbing him through the heart, making him groan out in pain. He fell backwards, his body crumbling to the floor.

Shroud cried out at the sight, his eyes filled with both fear and relief. I rushed over, quickly untying him and undoing his gag. He threw his arms around me, burying his face in my shirt. I pulled him into my arms, hushing his softly.

"It's okay, shhh. You're okay now. I've got you now." I held him tightly, feeling my anger disappear, replaced by the relief of holding him again.

"It was s-so scary." he sobbed into my shirt.

"I know." I whispered, slowly picking him up. "Let's go home, okay?"

He nodded, still gripping onto my shirt like his life depended on it. I walked us home, making sure I never loosened my grip. I brought him to his room, setting him down on the bed.

Again, Shroud clung to me, begging me not to leave. "Please! Don't leave me alone!! What if they take me again? What if I get hurt? Or-"

"Shroud, I'm not leaving you." I cut him off, looking up at his amber eyes.

"Promise?"

"I promise." I nodded, taking him back into my arms. "I'll never let you get hurt again."
